Waiting for next available maintenance window AND Software Center cannot retrieve the information you requested

Using SCCM 2012 CU3ish.

In Software Center an application is listed as Waiting for next available maintenance window; I then click Install and it is followed up by a message - The Software Center cannot retrieve the information you requested.

I went back to SCCM Console and I do not have the application deployed; I did at one time but then deleted the deployment; I can understand why the information is not available that's a no brainer but since it isn't deployed at all and I've gone in to the Control Panel and ran the various actions to get the client to update information yet the it isn't removing it.  It seems to be stuck on thinking it needs to do something with it.

I don't think other clients are having this sort of issue; but I'll check on that when I get back in during the work week.

Any ideas?

When does an Application Supresede

Do superseded applications apply immediately, before the new application is deployed? Or does nothing happen until the new application is deployed?

Basically, I have an application across the board at the moment. I've added the new version to SCCM and I want to test it with a test group. If I supersede the old application, will it automatically upgrade ALL clients across the network without confirmation? Or can I supersede it, then do a deployment to the test group and only they will get the upgrade?

So what I would like to happen is:

1. Import new version of application

2. Add the old version to the superseded apps (of the new application)

3. Deploy to test group - Old application gets uninstalled and new installed ONLY on the test group

4. Test successful - New deployment across the board to supersede the old application

Is this correct?

Hello Guys,

some Clients have Problems to show Application Deployments in Software Center. In Deployment Monitoring Tool I can see the Deployments. But if you select the Deployment I get the Error "DT cannot be empty". So I think the Policy isn't downloaded correctly.

Is it possible to reset Software Center?

Application Supersedence & Download Cache

I have 7 different applications packages for one software title (7 versions of that software) which are all supersede each other, version 7 -> 6 -> 5 -> 4 -> 3 -> 2 -> 1.  When I deploy Application Package version 7 of this software to a collection of machines, as available, and install through Software Center it will download the content cache of just that version.  However when i have this Application, version 7, added to a TS for OSD i have found that it downloads the content cache for every version the version 7 supersedes and their supersedence... i.e. Version 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, & 1 and installs version 7.  The TS does not contain version 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, or 1 in the TS and the .WIM does not have any versions of this software installed.

Is there any logical explanation to this?

Hi
I've been trying to get an application which is targeted at users to supersede. Unfortunately the user policy retrieval cycle doesn't seem to be running automatically which means the supercedence doesn't happen. Has anybody had any experience of this and what could be at fault.

FEP Virus detection email Alerts not received immeditaly

Hi,

We have SCCM 2012 R2 with FEP Role , Still We did not enable SCCM Reporting services.

We have made its default action to Remove in FEP Policy and enabled ALERT from Collection property.

When there is Virus detected on client system , We did not receive its Email alert immediately.

We receive email alert only After clicking on "Apply Action" from FEP Client system.

Is there any way we can receive email AS Soon As Virus Detected from Client.

According to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg675286.aspx : its for SCCM 2007

Thanks

Non-Deployed Applications in OSD Task Sequence Are Deployed To Collection Members where OSD TS is deployed

$

Hello,

I have a situation where an application (which is not deployed) that is part of an OSD Task Sequence is being deployed to computers that are in the same collection my TS for OSD is deployed.

For OSD I have created an application to check the BIOS version and upgrade the BIOS if there is a newer one available. The application has numerous deployment types (13) due to various hardware models and the requirement to go to several intermediary BIOS versions to reach the current newest version. There are dependencies configured to handle these incremental bumps.

The OSD TS is deployed to a collection that contains all windows desktop class operating systems. What I have seen happen once is that one users workstation somehow discovered and installed the BIOS Upgrade package and their BIOS was upgraded on their workstation. I've checked the logs on several other machines and this same application has been run as well.

The application is configured "Allow this application to be installed from the Install Applicationstasksequence action without being deployed" which allows it to be ran from a TS even though it is not deployed.

I have verified the application is not deployed. I have verified there are no superceedence rules configured. As I stated, there are dependencies, but all dependencies are within this one application.

What I do not understand is, how can an application that is not deployed and is only referenced in an Operating System Deployment Task Sequence able to be ran outside the task sequence?

This is/has occurred with computers imaged with cm2012 and with computers imaged with cm2007 who have now been migrated to cm2012.

I'm fairly sure that it is due to the task sequence and where it is advertised. Computers that are not in this collection do not show the application being applied in the AppEnforce.log. If it is the TS that is causing this, how can something that is designed to be a "sequence of tasks", allow something to occur out of that sequence?

Current environment is CM2012R2.

Any thoughts to what might be happening?

Thanks

Distribute Customer Updates in SCCM 2012 (CU's) using a Task Sequence

I want to utilize a Task Sequence to Distribute Customer Updates to SCCM 2012 Clients.  I currently have 2 collections for pre-CU 4 clients, one for 32 Bit Clients (x86) , one for 64 Bit Clients (x64).  I have a package pertinent to each collection which I use to distribute the updates.

However, instead of segregating them by collection, I would like to have one big collection, and have the Task Sequence sort out which package should load on which collection.

I've tried using the RUN COMMAND LINE, and INSTALL PACKAGE options to no avail.  Is there a way to utilize a Task Sequence for this undertaking, or should I just continue the way I'm currently doing it.

Thanks ,

Dan

Query user device affinity by user.

I am trying to set up a custom task in Service Manager to start a Remote Control session to a users primary computer. However, SCSM doesn't appear to import any of that data with it's CM connector. So I was looking into creating a query to the CM database that can return the name of a user's primary device(s).

Anyone know where I can start for this?

Thanks.

Bulk Deployment of all Applications to a Collection

$

Hello,

We are preparing for a roll out of Windows 7 64bit across an estate of 3500+ with 47 different hardware models, and we are packaging over 500 applications which will be sent out to a geographically distributed team of end users to perform the user acceptance testing. We are using SCCM 2012 SP1

What I would like to achieve is to have all existing packaged applications that are imported into SCCM automatically be made "available" via Software Center to 20 known laptops that have been issued to the testers. Plus "a nice to have" would be each time a new application has been packaged and imported into SCCM by the apps packagers, I would also like to have that automatically made available to the testers without my input. (but that might be asking for too much)

This way a tester can just select the application they wish to test from Software Center and I don't have to go through the very time consuming process of manually setting up a deployment for each of the 500+ applications to the testers laptop collection, leaving me time to concentrate on the getting the drivers sorted out for the various model of hardware we are pushing our OS out to.

If this is possible I am guessing it will involve some sort of dynamic query or PowerShell scripting, but I am not sure where to start.

Advice, help, code, etc... would be much appreciated for this overworked sysadmin :-)

On my Windows Server 2012 servers some, but not all updates fail with the error: The software change returned error code 0x87D0070C(-2016409844).

The SCCM 2012 SP1 DP's and MP are online (and as said: Some updates succeed).

What doe the mentioned error mean and how can this be troubleshooted?

Failed to Validate Package on Distribution Point - Straight After Successful Distribution

$

Hello,

I have an updates deployment package which I have sent out to a distribution point and the status reports that the distribution was successful. If however I then do a validation of the same package, or wait for SCCM to do a validation, I get the status that it Failed to Validate Package on Distribution Point - the package is either missing or corrupted, please redeploy. If I then redeploy the package it once again goes fine and everything seems good but when another validation takes place I get the same error message again.

The same package is fine on other distribution points and other packages are fine on the distribution point that has the issue.

Are there are logs that will help me see why SCCM thinks the package is missing or corrupted?

Thank you for any help.

Kind Regards,

Stephen

Outdated application revision being deployed?

$

Hi

Hoping someone could let me know if my assumption below is correct!

I was deploying an application which had a deployment to a test collection. I had to make a tweak to it and it went from revision 4 to revision 5. I updated content on the deployment type and waited for the content to go out to the DPs.

I then added a new PC to the test collection and watched the deployment through appenforce.log and noticed that revision 4 was deployed and not revision 5 as I had assumed.

So my question is, when you make a change to an application which has an existing deployment. Does that deployment continue to use the revision it was originally set up with and NOT the most recent revision?

I'm beginning to think that may be the case that to get the latest revision to go out, a new deployment would be required?

Thanks in advance.

Jonathan

Lenoco Update System.msi

I thought this would be easier, initial testing seemed to go ok until I tried it on different versions of OS and tried the uninstall from Software Center and Windows 8.1

I'm trying to deploy the Lenovo System Update program ver. 5. to the Software Center for Windows 7 and 8.1.

I tried it from the MSI extracted to the temp folder, I tried it using the .....exe /a /s /v"/qn CREATESHORTCUT=1" command and I'm just not getting good results.

Has anyone deployed this app successfully; if so can you advise me please? I'm currently deploying over a dozen other programs that work really great and I'm at a loss with this one :-(

Trouble deploying .NET Framework 4.0

I have a single SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4 server.  I am wanting to deploy Microsoft EMET 4.1, but one of the prerequisites for it is .NET 4.0.

I try deploying .NET Framework 4.0 as a "package" to a group of Windows 7 test machines.  I followed the directions in this link (for .NET4.5), but nothing happens on the client.   http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee390831%28v=vs.110%29.aspx

I also followed Prajwal's guide at this link, but still, nothing happens on the client.  http://prajwaldesai.com/deploy-net-framework-4-0-using-sccm-2012-r2/

When I watch the execmgr.log file on the client, the only error message that comes up says "Failed to load logging configuration for 'ContentAccess' (87d00275)"

I was able to successfully deploy .NET 4.5, but I then I get an error during the EMET installation that says it will only run on .NET 4.0.

The distmgr.log on the server does not have any errors.

Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Edit:  A warning message just showed up in execmgr.log saying:
"CreateMandatoryRequestRecursively policy PDC00052 .NET Framework 4 PDC2001B no need to re-run"

And this error message follows immediately after the warning:
"Sending SoftDistProgramHasRunBeforeWithoutFailing."

Deploying Custom Office 2013, Uninstalling Office 2010

$

We've just recently moved to SCCM for application and OS deployment, so we're setting up applications to be deployed through SCCM for the very first time. I've read a few guides to deploying Office 2013, and the majority of them follow the same procedure:

  1. Customize Office 2013 with OCT
  2. Create an application in SCCM by selecting proplusww.msi
  3. Edit the deployment type and replace proplusww.msi with setup.exe
  4. Some guides reference the .msp in the setup.exe command, some don't. e.g. "setup.exe /adminfile custom.msp"

So, a few questions:

  1. Why should I use setup.exe vs proplusww.msi? I understood that the application model gives us more control, better autodetection, and less manual configuration. i.e. use MSI for applications
  2. If I should use setup.exe, do I really need to reference .msp? e.g. setup.exe /adminfile custom.msp I thought that when you customize the installer, and place the msp in the \updates folder, running the setup.exe still utilizes the msp file.
  3. Some guides say I should also used an xml file for help with uninstalling Office 2013. e.g. An xml file with Display Level, SuppressModal, and AcceptEula set, then using the command "setup.exe /uninstall proplusr /config .\proplusr.ww\unisntall.xml". What instances would I need the xml, and which instances would I not?
  4. Finally, I would possibly like to install Office 2013 during OSD. Would that change any recommendations on how I create the Office 2013 SCCM application?

I'd appreciate any help/advice anyone can give. I was not able to find any info directly from Microsoft on how best to deploy Office with SCCM. Nor was I able to find any info on using proplusww.msi vs setup.exe for deployment. Thanks.

KB2877985 Question Regarding Verification of Installation - Detection Method

$

Hello,

I am trying to deploy this KB to systems using SCCM and am looking for a way to verify this patch is installed.  In the KB article
it states the Explorer.exe version will change, which it does, but once you install another update, won't the version number change again?

Does anyone know of a way to verify this is installed, other than physically seeing if the taskbar will still move?

I'm basically looking for assistance in figuring out a detection method for this KB for SCCM 2012 R2

This is for Windows 7 Enterprise x86 version.

Application Supersedence

Hi!

I want to test supersedence on one computer and have a question,

I have application10, it will be superseeded by application10.1,

Can I deploy application 10.1 to my test collection that contains 1 computer,  to see if it replaces application 10 or will it also upgrade all the application10´s out in production? that would be a nightmare if the supersedence doesnt work and the production computers end up with damaged installations of the application.

can i add some sort of condition so that it only superseeds on a specific computername?

Do i need a complete test environment for this?
