Run as command for executing an installer is stuck in task manager; Error: failed to get the linked token information

Hi,

I have a legacy LOB software that suddenly stopped installing through SCCM 2012. The application is installed through Task Sequence and I see the following error message.

failed to get the linked token information. It may not be available. Error 1312

Background Info:

Here's how the installation is done through task sequence.

  1. Command line: Copy install source files to local client (i.e. C:\temp\installsource\)
  2. Command line: Setup compatibility mode of the installer by modifying registry
  3. Command line: Run the installation file using another AD account (has admin rights). It's already a silent install exe file.
  4. Few more command line steps that creates files on the local computer, moves files and runs batch script for registering lots of dll files and updating folder permission as well as creating necessary shortcuts for users

This task sequence worked fine until a month or two ago.

Current Issue:

When this task sequence runs on the client machine, the task sequence progress bar doesn't move beyond step #3 mentioned above. I can see from the task manager that the installation file is still running. It gets stuck like that and will probably continue forever.

I even ran the task sequence while logged into the computer using the same machine that runs that installation file, to see if it's stuck/waiting with a prompt to click on, but didn't see anything like that.

At this point, I terminate that install process from the task manager. Manually run that same installer and it completes all the way (as I can see from the installer's own progress bar). If I run the task sequence now, the whole thing finishes fine.

Checking the smsts.log file shows the above mentioned error message where the task sequence/install was getting stuck.

Any suggestions on what could be causing the installer to be stuck?

If you need more info or have questions, please let me know.

Thanks,

Pman
