Reboot before app push?

We're moving from a Groupwise e-mail system to Exchange shortly.  Since Groupwise creates an e-mail profile we're going to uninstall the Groupwise client before deploying Outlook to client machines.  Please let me know if anyone notices an issue with this:

  • A half hour before deployment time I will deploy a package that runs a single command line shutdown /r /t 120.  They will get the pop up that their computers will reboot in 120 seconds so they know to save their work.  I do this so they don't have their Groupwise client open at the time it's attempting to uninstall.
  • I will schedule the Outlook deployment half hour after the reboot deployment.  The Outlook install has a dependency to uninstall the Groupwise client.  When the deployment runs Groupwise is first uninstalled, then Outlook is installed.

My main concern is what happens if the computer is off at the time of deployment? (We do not have wake on LAN enabled yet).  When they power on the machine will it attempt to run both deployments at the same time?  That'll be an issue as it'll be half way through the Outlook install process and it will reboot from the shutdown command.

Any suggestions to reduce deployment failures?
