Deploying Windows Apps Via SCCM

Hi All,

Before I begin I should mention I have done some reading on how to do this and I understand the follow can be used;

- Deploy via Depp linking in SCCM (eg via app store) but this requires a Microsoft Account

- Deploy via Side Loading in SCCM but this requires the APPX files.

Now onto question, I work in a school and we are trying to deploy windows apps to students in our junior school. Yes these notebooks are for individual students, but the task to set up each one with a (retail) Microsoft account and set a password is rather hard for young children.

Is there a way we can deploy these skipping the Microsoft store???? I know Microsoft loves to support education so I know there would be a way. Please can someone help me on this one?

Deploy package to user as available: doesn't appear in application catalog

Hi,

We need to deploy a package (not an application) to the applicaiton catalog so we first made sure it works (deployed to a pc) then we deployed it to a user but it doesn't appear at all in the applicaiton catalog.
I don't see any entries in appeval. log or appenforce.log.

Please advise howto troubleshoot.

Application revision: practical usage?

Hi,

I have some idea of what the conccept of "application revision" consists of.
However, I don't see the practical use of it, at least we never used it/needed it.

So my question: do you use it and if yes, where do you see the added values? This so we might reconsider our application deployment infrasturcutre and build in the use of this feature.

App deployment only completes 80%

Hi all, 

    For the past month or two I have noticed an issue with our SCCM 2012 SP1 CU5 setup. When adobe flash player version comes out I usually download the msi and import it into applications. I would send it out to 1,200 clients and usually it finishes in 24 hours. Very easy and cool. I use the detection method to look at the registry key for displayed version. Also in the deployment I tell it to Install for System, Wether or not user if logged on or off, Hidden.  This is usually a piece of cake.

The issue is this. Lately the same easy push of the application only completes about 80 to 85% of clients. The 200+ clients (and its not the same clients everytime) are showing in a a Category of "waiting for content". While two or so are showing" in progres". This is the current status as of last Friday night.

I looked at one of the clients and i noticed in the CCM cache folder the folder labeled "17" was created but no package was in the folder. The 17.BDRTemp folder is there with some emptyfolders named Temp and Work and Newsignatures.

I am showing the package is avaiable and ready on the DP.

I am really stumpted at what to look for at this point. Nothing in the SCCM logs show me anything obvious.

Software Center stuck on updating 2 components

Hi,

I accidently deleted my cache while software center was installing an application. Now my cache is empty and I just have a spinning circle that it is updating 2 components. Is there a way to reset the status? I don't see a way to repair the cfg mgr client anywhere? TY

Report to Show All Machines with ANY Deployment Failures

I need to generate a report, daily, that displays all machines that have any kind of an deployment failure. This list will then be used to generate tickets for consultants in that area to check on them.

I know I can look at specific deployments and see which machines show up as failed, but I am not seeing a report that shows all machines that haveany kind of a failed deployment. Does one exist, or will I need to create it?

Outdated application revision being deployed?

Hi

Hoping someone could let me know if my assumption below is correct!

I was deploying an application which had a deployment to a test collection. I had to make a tweak to it and it went from revision 4 to revision 5. I updated content on the deployment type and waited for the content to go out to the DPs.

I then added a new PC to the test collection and watched the deployment through appenforce.log and noticed that revision 4 was deployed and not revision 5 as I had assumed.

So my question is, when you make a change to an application which has an existing deployment. Does that deployment continue to use the revision it was originally set up with and NOT the most recent revision?

I'm beginning to think that may be the case that to get the latest revision to go out, a new deployment would be required?

how to deploy App when there are prompts next, tick boxes for example

is the only way to package software that has prompts to use a program that scans for difference before and after an install then packages it up

at the moment I create the app from an msi and set the switches for quiet install but it always runs so it is visible on the client pc

how can you run an app in silent mode when there are prompts? 

if someone can set me on the right path I feel like I am missing something very obvious

I have created a new application in SCCM 2012 via Powerhsell.

New-CmApplication "Mysoftware" -description blabla etc
Now, I'm trying to add an App-v 5 and a scripted install type to this application.
Could you share your PS oneliner, I'm kind of stuck.

App-v 5:
----------
Add-CMDeploymentType -ApplicationName -"Mysoftware" -ContententLocation "\\ourshare" then howto detect etc

Application (based upon own script):
----------------------------------------------
Add-CMDeploymentType -ApplicationName "Oursoftware" -ScriptInstaller -ContentLocation "\\ourshare" -ScriptContent "ourscript.wsf" -DeploymentTypeName "DeploymentTypeName"

But then I'd need the detectdeploymenttype by version of file or msi installed

Client Settings Software Deployment - Re-evaluation for deployments schedule (Application Deployment Evaluation Cycle)

Hi all,

A requirement has a arisen to maybe change the Software Deployment "Schedule re-evaluation for deployments" from (default) 7 days to 1 day.  As per the below TechNet article, recommendations are leave at default, however when I've investigated further (researching the internet and speaking with other SCCM techies) it seems changing to 1 day will not be an issue, however this is based on you environment.

We recommend that you do not change this value to a lower value than the default as this may negatively affect the performance of your network and client computers.

The SCCM2012 version is R2 CU3, primary site and around 1500 Windows 7 clients.

What factors do I need to consider changing this setting and what are the possible impacts (if any)? Has anyone change this setting in their environment with any success?

statesys.log repeat error message

this message has been repeating for the last couple of days in the statesys.log not sure what it is trying to tell me. Anyone know?

Popup message is not showing from vbs file - SCCM 2012 Package

Hi,

I am deploying a package that needs the outlook should be closed prior to install. For that, we have included popup message in the vbs script(setup.vbs) file. When deploying the package via SCCM(using package deployment method), the popup message is not appearing but it is working when we run the script file manually. i have modified SCCM program setting but no luck.

Could you advise what setting needs to be changed in SCCM Program & deployment?

Deployment Status: Already Compliant

I'm attempting to deploy an application whose detection method is as follows:

detection method

When I deploy this deployment type to a device, it comes back as already compliant, even though I know the file is not present on the client. 

Is there something other than detection method that may trigger a device as already compliant?

Package deployment keeps getting stuck with message 'Waiting for another program'

Hi, I just started working on SCCM.  We have an Orchestrator runbook which creates a collection and then creates an advertisement for packages and task sequences.  I was able to get a task sequence and a package successfully execute.  When creating the advertisement, I set it to RERUN_ALWAYS.  However, the next time I ran our runbook which creates the collection andadvertisement (I manually deleted the previous one), it does create them but the deployment is stuck to In Progres with the Description of 'Waiting for another program'.  This just happens for packages before and not for task sequences the other day but now, it's the same issue whether I use a package or a task sequence.   

I see this in execmgr.log:

Deploy application via Powershell (script) detection method and others

Hi,

I'd like to deploy an application (which is based upon a wsf framework).

What I have now does not work:

Add-CMDeploymentType -ApplicationName "ourapplication" -DeploymentTypeName "OurDeploymentTypeName" -MsiInstaller -ContentLocation "\\ourshare\package\" -InstallationProgram "install.wsf" -ForceForUnknownPublisher $true -InstallationBehaviorType InstallForSystem

Note: I don't see options too to detect the installation, f.e. msi code {} or version of a certain file.
Please advise.

App deployment to windows mobiles via Windows Intune

It is a while off as R2 is being installed by the network guys. I have been asked about mobile app installs been reading up a bit and my question is this.

Do you only get the option for the users to pull down the "stock" app or can you tweak the settings of the app for example "lync 2013" server address, domain, extra extra.

is it done after, during, can it be done at all?

we have deployed package or task sequence into static or dynamic collection with always re-run or re-occurrence re-run settings . issue is need to replace sourcefile small or big change in source file setps need to perform stop advertisement and replace new content update source version (update package) re-enable advertisement. now question is if machines are already received old policy how they behaves and if machines already installed package\task sequence how they behaves.

Does anyone know if there are any built-in reports or advise on queries to use to create a report on how many times a specific application deployment has tried to run in a collection of devices/users?

if package or task sequence is deployed to collection so if i replace source file of package assume collection is having multiple machines so if i replace  with new source file ten if failed\content waiting status will get new content? what about success machines? assume if selected task sequence \ package advertisement always  like re-run or re-occurrence re-run

.NET 4.5.1 Install only works when running on a UI session

I have created an application package for .NET 4.5.1 offline installer with the following installation command:

NDP451-KB2858728-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe /q /norestart /ChainingPackage "ADMINDEPLOYMENT"

When SCCM attempts to install this application after a machine policy refresh the install fails with the following errors:

Manually going to the machine and running the installation via the Software Center results in the application installing correctly and reporting back to SCCM as a success. 

I've tried going the route of the web installer but it fails because it can't get past the corporate proxy and I'd prefer the offline installer anyways.  The web installer does manage to extract itself via SCCM though.  I have already tried redownloading the installer but it didn't make a difference.

Any advice?
