Update applications

Hi,

To update App-V packages/applications, can you use the option "update content" (right click on deployment type)? In general, I 'd create a new version and unpublish the old version by supersedence/uninstall but wonder if that option would do the trick also.

Iow:

*When you select update content and the source share is updated, the package is updated on SCCM share, correct (so no need to create a new package)?
*When you update the content, the clients don't get it automatically but a new deployment needs to be scheduled(?)

Application dependency: is the dependent application also downloaded even if it is already installed?

Hi,

I have this Office 2013 App-V package and a seperate pacakge for proofing tools.

Office 2013 App-V package is deployed correctly but when I deploy seperately the proofing tools (which has a dependency to the App-V Office 2013 package and automatically install when it is not there) then it (Proofing Tools) shows something like "remaining 2 components".

So what worries me: the Proofing tools package should see that Office is already installed so why it shows "2 components", it should only install Proofing tools that's 1 component. Is it actually downloading it (then this is a serious overload).

If I would remove the dependency, then packages are installed at random whereas I want first Office, then the proofing tools.

Please advise.

General question/clarification for Supersedence

Hello,

I have run into some complications with Supersedence within SCCM. These are the issues I have had:

  • All systems updating to a newer version of software even if the application is deployed as available. My understanding is superseding an application makes it required IF the old application is installed.
  • Doesn't comply with Maintenance Windows, meaning all systems are updating when it is available, unless I am not understanding this correctly. If I am not understanding this please let me know. What I want to avoid is 4000 clients hitting the DPs all at once. This generates a ton of traffic.

I tried finding papers to explain this but the only thing I was able to find from M$ is how to create the superseding applications, but nothing about the details on how the process actually works, so I am looking for clarification.

Failed to invoke EnforceApp on Application handler(0x87d01106).

Hi,

We are getting the " Failed to enforce app. Error 0x87d01106' error in multiple machines while deploying different applications.But the same application is working fine in other machines.Even the application is not available in CCMCACHE folder.

Applications are installing, but the deployment statistics are not updating

Hello all,

I'm trying to install a few applications, but we'll use the MBAM Client as an example, as it's small.

I have a couple of VMs and test machines, and can verify that the computers are installing applications from the deployments I set up, but they are not reporting back their status to the deployment statistics. They all just sit there with the Client Check Passed/Active status in the unknown tab.

I can even uninstall the app again, force the Application Deployment Evaluation Cycle, and watch it re-install. Is there something I'm missing, or should be checking?

Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable - Deployment help

I have been tasked to deploy Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable using SCCM 2012. The download file I have is the .exe file. I would like to know now to create the application in SCCM to deploy this to all workstations.

I am new to this process and would appreciate any assistance possible.

Secondary Site Reassign to another site within Hierarchy

Folks , 

If my secondary site cross 5000 clients now I want to bypass those clients to direct primary site / any other secondary site within the hierarchy . 

What I Did ? 

I Uninstall the client and reinstall before that I added that machine IP Address range into targeted Boundary group but still it's going old MP only 

Anyone helps here ?

BITS and "Fast" connections

have inherited and existing 2007 solution with appx 800 packages/advertisements to migrate to 2012. ALL advertisements set to NOT download over slow connections, and  no slow boundaries/connections have been configured - However ALL connections  are actually "slow" - so  DPs are configured for BITS,  BITS is set at the client, and GPO manages BITS throttling settings for clients. So every download is via BITS, even over "Fast" connections

We need to maintain the BITS throttling in the 2012 solution, I dont want to amend 800 advertisements,  however a little confused over how the DPs/BITS/Clients now operate

.

So, three questions  :-

1. As 2012 DPs arent manually configured to use BITS, will clients use BITS for download over a "FAST" connection ?

or is BITS is only ever used over a SLOW connection:- if so

2. Is it possible to amend advertisements when using the migration tool (ie to allow download over slow connection)

3. Is the only solution to setup SLOW connection boundary groups in 2012 and create a script to update each advertisement to download over slow/fallback connection ?

I know there is a difference approach to get this done

Deployment not working after installed

Hi guys,

I am having trouble understanding deployment options in SCCM 2012 R2. In our company we want to deliver Visio 2013 and Project 2013 over required deployment to only some users (might as well be available but for now it will be required). Problem is when Visio/Project installs first time, everything is ok. Then for testing sake I uninstall Visio/Project and then when I want to do another test with installing the same packages, they don't install again. I know they are still in ccmcache folder but if i delete the deployment folder the I make things even worse.

Does it have to do with "Always rerun" vs "Rerun if failed previous attempt" options in deployments?

Application Packaging for newbie

This is a very generic question but I was wondering what you guys use to create application packages to automate installations and what are your practices? I have seen people mention AdminStudio and AppDeploy applications to assist with packaging. Is there any type of training I can go to to get started?

Uninstall as dependency

For exemple, can I trigger uninstall of adobe acrobat X standard before installing Acrobat X Pro ?

Allow users to deploy applications from cached content while offline

Is there a scenario where we can depend on SCCM client to download the content of an application, say Office 2013, to the cache before the deployment deadline then, while the computer is offline (at home), they can open Software Center and install the application?

If this is possible, how do I guarantee the client actually downloads the source files long before the deadline?

Creating a user logged on or off Global Condition

Does anyone have some ideas on how to go about creating a Global Condition for whether a user is logged in or not?  Not a particular user, but ANY user.  

I'm creating a single Application with two Deployment Types. Deployment Type 1 would be an unattended install and only run if the user is logged off.  Deployment Type 2 would be an attended install and only run if a user is logged on and be set to display a progress bar.  I am going to use the Requirements tab of each deployment type to determine if a user is logged on or off.

In SCCM 2007 this was easy with Packages, I could set it to run no matter if the user was logged on or off and just tick the box to allow user interaction.  Since I always use /passive for MSI, it was effective because it would run fine no matter if the user was logged on or off.  As I'm sure everyone knows, the "allow user interaction" box is now grayed out when choose to run "whether or not a user is logged in"

I wish Microsoft would change it back to the old way.

Uninstal Package - office 2013

HI All

hoping someone can help when we deployed our images we used MDT which included a batch file scripted version of office 2010.We have now implemented SCCM and everything is great, however we need to uninstall office 2010 to install a 2013.

However everything I have tried seems to fail and I don't know why can anyone point me in the right direction or give me instructions on how to active this

Upgrade Office 2010 to Office 2013 (Application model)

Hi,

wanted to share with the community how I solved this task of upgrading already installed Office 2010 (Office 2007 was tested also) to Office 2013 Pro Plus Sp1 VL via Application Model.

In short: in order for it to work, .msi should not be use but the .msp file that you create when you customize your Office installation because .msp contains already a step to remove old Office versions before installing a new version!

Prerequisites:

Prepared .msp file for Office 2013 -> This is important because when specifying installation program on "Content" tab you have to use the .msp (setup.exe /adminfile yournameoffile.msp /config en-us.xml)

Detection clause which you need if you want to specify Detection rule, obtained from a dummy app which you create before.

So, SCCM 2012 R2 with test machine which has installed Windows 7 x64 Enterprise version with Office 2010 Pro.

1. Create Application -> Manually specify the application information.

    Fill out Name and other field according to your needs. Same for next step "Application Catalog"

2. Deployment types -> Manually specify the deployment type information.

    General Information step -> Fill out Name and language.

    Content -> specify network path to the folder containing Office 2013 (do not specify proplus.ww folder)

                -> specify Installation program and enter "setup.exe /adminfile yournameoffile.msp /config en-us.xml"

    Detection Method -> Best way to obtain would be to create a dummy application with .msi file and the you get all the data automatically filled in including clause needed in this step.

                            -> Setting Type: Windows Installer, Product code: {90150000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}  (02.06.2015, Office 2013 Pro Plus SP1 VL)

    User Experience -> Install for System - Only when I user is logged on - normal (if you want your users to see the progress)

    Requirements - fill in according to you needs.

    Dependencies - fill in according to you needs.

Notes: Under application catalog maybe it is not a bad idea to Write under "Localized description" that the user should first close all running Office apps. This is a more friendly approach when type of deployment is set to "Available".

Available Deployment Deadline

Hi;

Just a quick question. I've had a search but can't find this being discussed.

For software upgrades we usually set the deployment to be Available and let users upgrade the software when they're ready and not using the application.

Is there a way to set a deadline on this deployment, so after ~2 weeks, the deployment then becomes aRequired deployment? I thought maybe a way around this would be to deploy the app again to the same collection asRequired after the date we want, but  you can't deploy the same application to the same collection more than once. 

So the only way I know to do this at the moment is to do the Available deployment for the time period required, then delete that deployment and create theRequired deployment afterwards. Does anybody else have any suggestions?

Hope this makes sense? Let me know if there's anything that's not clear..

Legacy Package Replication Issue

So, I have about 400 packages I migrated from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 R2 CU5.  I assign them to a DP group containing 4 DPs.  Some packages go to all DPs fine. Some to 3 outta 4, some 2 outta 4 etc.  I have tried replicating and re-replicating, but to no avail.  Here are some of the log entries from the PkgXferMgr.log on the site server:

Not sure if I am seeing one issue or multiple.  

The reason I am migrating and using the legacy pcakages is taht I have a very limited window to retire SCCM 2007. I don't have enough time to get the packages and builds created from scratch and my packagers do not now how to work with the new application models yet.

Powershell Detection Method Config Mgr 2012

I'm running into a problem running a Powershell script through ConfigMgr while using the following detection method. The idea here is to push a specific shortcut to our users desktop and if the user deletes it have the detection method replace it. When I run this script I get the following error: Missing '(' after 'if' in if statement.
