How to install Metro applications?

$

Greetings!

We want to install some Metro-applications via SCCM 2012 R2.

Applications are published in Windows Store. They aren't self-developed applications.

I see are two ways how to do it with SCCM 2012R2:

1. Use "Windows app package (in the Windows Store)" type. User should click on the Install button from the Application Catalog, and he will be redirected to the Windows Store. Then he shoud continue install with Windows Store.
Yes: Simple configuration with SCCM 2012R2.
No:
a) It is necessary to provide access to the Windows apps store (it is frobidden by GPO now), and make sure that users did not install any crap. Maybe we should use AppLocker to block anything except approved apps;
b) Required user liveID to install any application from the store. A lot of our users didn't have it, of course. Anyway they are wouldn't do it.

2. Use "Windows app package (*.appx,*.appxbundle)" type.
Yes: Click it and forget it. Very easy install for users experience.
No:
Difficulties with the implementation, because of:
a) Should riping *.appx file from the store (rather easy, but still bored);
b) Find and add all packages and dependencies that an application has - for example C ++ components;
c) Solve the problem with the "sideloading key" for application activation.

We decided to go the second way, but failed with the last paragraph.
We found that when we install applications from the store, Store install a special key for current application (Sideloading key), and then activate an app. If we try to install appx, without sideloading key activation, the application does not start.

When I try to start an app, I see in EventLog Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational a Error:

Activation of the app [App] for the Windows.Launch contract was blocked with error 0x80073CFC because its package is in state: Error from application of unknown origin.

So, the question is: What is the best way to install already published Metro Applications in domain enviroment without Windows Store access? And how to solve the activation problem?

Application Deployment

I have a third party application that we are upgrading. Before we can upgrade the application on our clients(250+ workstations), we must run a conversion utility. This conversion utility adds/deletes files and folders and prepares the workstation for the new  update. This conversion utility must be run on every workstation. The conversion utility writes a log to a folder of the user logged into the workstation. The conversion must be done in user-context. The conversion utility is an exe not msi. From my understating we have to be logged into the workstation.

This upgrade will be done on the weekend when users are not on the workstation. Can system center accomplish this? If so how? Thanks for your help. I am new to system center.

Success rate on CRM deployment dropped to about 60%

We have been pushing the Outlook client for CRM2015 for a few months on new systems. We have also been pusing it on demand slowly to about 20% of our 2013 users. We started pushing out to the remaining clients but I'm now getting failures.

Program failed (download failed - content mismatch)  10057

I did a LOT of searching on this and have done the following:

 - refreshed the package

 - rebuilt the package

 - Validated the package

 - there are no hidden files in the package

 - enable binary differential replication is not checked

 - used SCCM Client Center to Reset Policy (hard reset)

 - reinstalled the client on a few systems

I'm still getting the content mismatch error.

I dug into the CAS.log and found the following error:

[Failed to open file c:\windows\ccmcache\c\reportviewer\reportviewer.msi with error [32].

[HashFile - exclusive access check for the file failed.]

Other systems had the same type of error but with different files:  \sqlce\ssceruntime_x86-enu.msi, \sqlsystemclrtypes\sqlsysclrtypes_x86.msi, \muisetup_1033_i386.msi, \client.msi...

In the CAS log, multiple install attempts on the same system show the same error 32 each time but with different files within the package.  If it was with the same file, I'd pull it out and re-run it for troubleshooting... but it's not.

We have not seen this error yet on Win 8.1 systems... only on win 7.  I need some ideas of other things to look at.

thanks

In the research I've done there seems to be differences of opinion on what the prereqs are and how to create the deployment in SCCM. I'm hoping to get some clarification here. Thanks.

Hi All,

We are Planning to Use WSUS + SCCM 2012 R2 for Patch Management. We are looking to deploy the Patches with 1 Month of deadline to the Users.

We need your answers for the following:

Scenario A:

The Updates received by the End Points, which is required for restart. The Updates got installed by the User on the Day 1 even though it is having deadline of another 29 days

Is that Restart happens immediately or the Restart time would be available for another 29 days.

SCCM 2012 R2 - Applicationcatalog issue

$

Hello

I have a problem with an ApplicationCatalog site. Applications takes over 1 hour to become available for users. The contents for the application is available on all distribution points. I have checked all the logs and I cannot find any hints to why it is slow. The applications have been created with an automatic script. I have tried setting the deployment time earlier with no luck. Suspecting stuck in the flow somewhere. How can I track what applications become available in ApplicationCatalog?

Any help appreciated

Regards Øyvind

Dear All,

We are in process of building SCCM in our environment. Most of the users are requesting us to increase the reboot time which happens after the mandatory restart after deploying the Security Updates and Applications.

So as part of client settings, We have done the following

Computer Restart = Changed from 90 (Minutes) default to 1440 (Minutes), Is there any other option to increase the reboot time. Your suggestions or guidance are really required ..

Thank you in Advance!!

Is there any other customize way (Like any SQL query) we can get the Data.

Unable to deploy Word after initial install of Office 2013 Pro Plus

Hi.

I have an .msp that configures Office 2013 to install only Excel. Now, I have been asked to add Word, VisioViewer and Lync to the clients.

I have created an .msp according to this: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179141.aspx#BKMK_CustomizeExistingInstall.

I have deployed the new .msp to a couple of test-machines. Lync and VisioViewer work great, and the shortcut for Word is present, but does not start the application.

Does anyone have experience with this problem and preferebly a solution?

Thanks in advance.

/Michael

Installation Restriction and allow only SCCM

We recently setup SCCM and we are implementing a software cleanup for all the users.

Before the cleanup, i need to restrict all users to install any software.

I would like to ask for solution (preferrably GPO or script) that i can use so that users will not be able to install any programs but only from SCCM.

Clearing list in Software center after installing and uninstalling from Application Catalog

Hello.

There was a problem.

SCCM 2012 R2 SP1.

Any application that is displayed and available in the "Application Catalog" for certain users.
Once the user has installed the application and then deleted it, but in this application Software Center remains available to all users of the computer to install.
How can I clear the list?

SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 - will deploy Packages, but not Applications

Bit of a weird one here. I have a freshly installed and configured SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 setup.

I can get the server to push Packages out (I have one that copies CMTrace.exe to the windows directory and another that uninstalls some software).

I have then setup an application to install Office 2010, but the client shows this error in CIDownloader.log

<![LOG[CIDownloaderJob({4C655596-B3B7-46FE-970E-20F9BBF9F447}): DownloadPackages failed (0x80070003).]LOG]!><time="13:52:43.621-600" date="06-23-2015" component="CIDownloader" context="" type="3" thread="3092" file="packageloaderjob.cpp:1548"><![LOG[CIDownloaderJob({4C655596-B3B7-46FE-970E-20F9BBF9F447}): StartDownload failed (0x80070003).]LOG]!><time="13:52:43.621-600" date="06-23-2015" component="CIDownloader" context="" type="3" thread="3092" file="packageloaderjob.cpp:1548">

And I get a matching error in the monitoring section of the console.

The content is distributed to the DP correctly, and can be seen in the appropriate server directory.

I can't find any matching server side errors for the above client error - there are no failures in SCCM logs that I can see, or in the IIS log file at that time.

I also tried a much smaller and simpler deployment of 7Zip - but got the same errors.

I've checked that the permissions on the shares are correct (as far as I can make them out to be - not 100% certain what they should be). Not sure on the permissions for the directories themselves.

I've checked that 'allow clients to connect anonymously' is ticked on the distribution point

I've tried both with and without a Network Access Account setup

Can't find anything that matches the errors listed above on the Internet.

Anyone have any ideas?

How to push out Adobe Updated to workstations?

$

Howdy,

Our SCCM Setup was configured by an outside consultant and we've been using it since then trying to make work what we can.  We have Adobe Flash and Reader installed as part of our Task Sequence but they are older versions and we need to get it updated.

What is the best way to push an update like that out to all our workstations?

I know I can package up the new version to add to our Task Sequence so new machines get the latest version, but can I pus that same thing out to our users and will it install the new version over the top of the existing ones?  Is there a better way to handle this sort of thing?

The two main things we need to get updated are Flash and Adobe Reader.

Thanks for any advice.

I am trying to deploy a .appx package. My client computers show "Past Due Will be retried"

Help with resolving this?

Batch file that copies files to local directory works in sccm 2007, but not in sccm 2012

$

Hello,

I have a Batch file that copies files to local directory that works in sccm 2007, but not in sccm 2012. During the migration of sccm 2007 to 2012, the package was migrated via the wizard. The source of the files on a file share is the same. Other software package deployments working fine from sccm 2012.  I updated and confirmed the distribution points have the newest version of the files. I looked through the settings of the package on sccm 2012 for something not found in sccm 2007, but didn't find one.  Does SCCM 2012 handle batch files (copy files) different from sccm 2007? I have it running with administrative rights, from a domain administrator account.

Thanks,

Mark

Deploying drivers from SCCM for Toshiba Dynadock U3.0

$

Hi,

I am trying to deploy the drivers for Dynadock U3.0 docking station from SCCM to our fleet of laptops but not having any luck so far. The CD only comes with a setup.exe file which runs into issues anyway so I have to install externally sourced drivers (DIsplayLink) first (which is also a setup.exe file).

If i extract the .exe files I can a lot of .sys files but not many .inf files which doesn't install  much when using 'pnputil.exe -i -a' (as per this solution: http://ccmexec.com/2013/10/update-a-device-driver-configuration-manager-2012/). If I load everything up manually, then go into device manager and driver details I can locate the .sys files for audio, network, etc but I can't install these without an .inf file can I? Also, Plug and Play is blocked on users machines.

Thanks for any help.

When do you use the App Catalog and when do you use Software Center?

$

Howdy,

We've never used the Application Catalog at our company.  Everything we do we just do via Software Center.  We have application configured as Available but they are published to Device Collections and not User Collections.  Is there any benefit to using one over the other?

For example, we have some basic software that everyone has access to like 7Zip or Greenshot.  We have them deployed to our "All Workstations" collection as opposed to the "All Users" collection.  This makes it show up in Software center by default.  I don't know if there's any benefit to changing things to use the App Catalog for any reason or not.

The only benefit I've found is that if I assign an app to a user, it shows up in the App Catalog instantly whereas if I assign it to their workstation they have to either wait for it to show up in Software Center or go run the various things under Configuration Manager to try to force it down.

Just looking to see if there's any reason for us to change how we deploy things or not.

Thanks!

How can I "refresh" content for an application after I make a change to its source files?

$

I created a new application for Office 2010 in the SCCM console yesterday. After doing a test push install I realized that I needed to change a setting in my Office Customization Tool .MSP file. I navigated to my UNC content location, edited my .MSP and saved it. Several test pushes later I realized that the old .MSP file was still being pushed out by SCCM it is clearly not updating to reflect my changes (or if it is its happening very slow). How can I get SCCM to update my application content to reflect the changes I made to my source files or verify its updating at all?
