Hi all,

can we make a detection method for an App when it is a DISM command for enabling Windows Feature like the following:

Package Settings Issue

I came across something and I am confused about it.  Let me explain.

We set all of our package deployments as pictured

The boundary is a “fast” boundary.

The size of the SCCM Client cache is 2000MB.

I have a package that is 5360MB in size.  Even though I have it set to run from the DP on a “fast” detected boundary, it still wants to download.  This error is similar , but I had changed the cache size to test:

When the cache is large enough, I still see that it checks, but it passes and I did verify that when the package does run, it doesn’t download to the cache, it indeed does run from the DP.

As you can see, it is pulling from the Local DP on the “fast” boundary.  If I set that second option to “ Do not run” or “Run program from DP”, it will succeed. But the only reason it succeeds is causes I expand the cache to accommodate it.  The question I have, is why does the size of the cache affect this? If it is detected to run from the DP, the size shouldn’t matter.  I do realize that there is some connection, due to the fact that changing the cache size affects it.  This appears to be different behavior from SCCM 2007.

I don’t have an issue with making the cache large, or setting the “slow” boundary setting to either of the other settings.  I just want to understand the change in the behavior.

I hope this was clear.  Any help is appreciated.

Silent install of MS applications

Hello guys,

I have refer to below post and trying to deploy MS VISIO, Project, visual studio:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/35059fcc-fee4-4253-8935-31cda1a62239/how-to-deploy-ms-visio-ms-project-via-sccm-2012?forum=configmanagerapps

Even following step by steps, my deployments are stuck on client machines saying "Waiting to begin the installation" and then "Past due - will be installed"

I made sure "Additional software manages the deployment" is already set to NO

Maintenance window is not an issue:

Also if I push any other application, eg: 7 zip. it works just fine.

Please suggest.

Hi,

I have a deployment of an App-V package with deadline today at 10 AM. Even it is not 10 AM it is showing (in deployment status) 24 errors (of 26 systems to which I deployed) with messageid 10006.

Why do I get these errors while I even am not deploying it yet?

Please advise.

Application Catalog Machine Certificate Renewal causes errors - how I fixed it

$

Hey Guys,

My Application Catalog had been chugging along nicely for the past 11 months or so, until this morning. It began displaying the "Cannot Connect to Application Server" error.

I saw the corresponding log(s) in the server log (Logs from a day ago, showed proper functionality and count=1):

[55, PID:4828][12/04/2013 08:48:48] :FindCertificate - Found certs via FindByThumbprint, count = 0

[55, PID:4828][12/04/2013 08:48:48] :FindCertificate - No matching certs found

[55, PID:4828][12/04/2013 08:48:48] :DefaultApplicationOfferService - opening channel via client proxy

[55, PID:4828][12/04/2013 08:48:48] :The client certificate is not provided; this could cause errors when the web site attempts to communicate with the web service. The certificate thumbprint in the web.config did not match any cert in the SMS cert store.

[55, PID:4828][12/04/2013 08:48:48] :System.InvalidOperationException: The client certificate is not provided. The certificate thumbprint in the web.config did not match any certificate in the SMS cert store.

Eventually, I traced this back to the Server's machine certificate (verses "client", as stated in the log, this lead me astray for awhile) autoenrolled/autorenewed last night, as it was expiring in a month or two. While IIS kept using the "renewed" cert (as I expected it to) For whatever reason, IIS, Windows, SCCM, or whatever (in my opinion "should have" ) never updated the "CertificateThumbprint" values in the Web.Config files for CMApplicationCatalog and CMApplicationCatalogSVC which look to have been set at initial install.

I had to manually update these values in both Web.Config files with the "new" thumbprint for this cert. After doing this, and restarting IIS, it began working immediately.

My question is, is this expected behavior? a bug? am I doing something incorrectly in my autoenroll/renew settings?

SCCM 2012 - .Bat file not running CMD as administrator

Hello -

I'm trying to run a bat file package that copies a file to a folder in Program Files x86.  The bat file needs to run command prompt as admin.  When I push the file out it does not run as admin and fails.  I have the package set to run as admin but that doesn't work.  Is there a way to make command prompt elevate or is there a different way to get this file copied?  It's a dependency of a package to copy a license file.

Thanks

Chris

Install same Application multiple times

Hi,

I have an Application that upgrades the BIOS on my Dell machines. It is a single deployment type that runs a VBS script. It detects how many BIOS upgrades are required to get to current (Dell have incremental BIOS patches), runs the required patch, creates a scheduled task that re-launches the script on startup, reboots the machine, installs the next patch, and so on, until the machine is at the appropriate level.

This approach can't be used in a TS as the Install Application step cannot handle the forced reboot or the subsequent reboots caused by the script re-launching after start-up.

I have created a task sequence as follows:

Build BIOS Install List
Install Application - Dell BIOS Update
Restart Computer
Install Application - Dell BIOS Update
Restart Computer
Install Application - Dell BIOS Update
Restart Computer

When this TS runs it successfully installs the first BIOS but seems to ignore the 2nd and 3rd Install Application steps. I have even inserted 3 minute pauses after the reboot to make sure that the client is properly initialised to no avail.

I think the issue is that the TS is detecting that the Dell BIOS Update Application has already been run and therefore skipping over it. How do I get it to 'forget' and start the Install Application step cleanly again? Could I delete log files or WMI entries?

Thanks.

Unable to upgrade SEP to 12 on few Servers

Hi All,

We are upgrading our SEP client software to 12.1.6

SEP is getting upgraded on servers with SEP client 11.x successfully, but having issues on servers sep client 12.x(On very few servers upgrade of sep client 12.x to 12.1.6 was successful). We see that software was downloaded to cache folder in servers. Observed below logs in execmgr

Successfully prepared command line "C:\WINDOWS\ccmcache\6b\Serverx64\Setup.exe" /S/v/qn

Command line = "C:\WINDOWS\ccmcache\6b\Serverx64\Setup.exe" /S/v/qn, Working Directory = C:\WINDOWS\ccmcache\6b\

Running "C:\WINDOWS\ccmcache\6b\Serverx64\Setup.exe" /S/v/qn with 32bitLauncher

CreateProcess or CreateProcessAsUser failed to execute command line with recoverable error 0x80070005

Non fatal execution error 0x87d01100 encountered for program SEP 12.1 RU6 x64

Program SEP 12.1 RU6 x64 has been tried 5 times, will retry later

For every retry we see the same error and observed that multiple instance of symantec setup stup(setup.exe) in taskmanager.

As we see multiple programs of setup.exe is running due to rerun option selected in deployment and we suspected that above exit code due to User access control, Disabled in one of the server and tried, but same issue exits.

Tried changing switch parameters above with Setup.exe /s/v/qn, Setup.exe /v/qn, Setup.exe /s/v, Setup.exe /s/v"/qn" and Setup.exe /quiet, but same issue exits.

Please let me know what is the issue.

Thanks.

Deploying Applications to Systems Connected Over the Internet (IBCM)

Hello -

Internet Based Client Management (IBCM) was recently configured in our environment, with internet connections into the intranet using a proxy. We have one primary site/MP and one AD environment. I have a test Windows 7 system that was previously on the intranet, now only connected to the internet over wireless. In the CM console under client activity for the system, I can see that the dates/times for Policy Request, Heartbeat DDR, Hardware Scan, Software Scan have all updated while it has been connected only on the internet over wireless, so it seems that IBCM is working for the most part. The issue I'm having is with Application Deployments. I deployed a required application to a collection that includes this internet connected system but I'm not seeing any evidence in Software Center or in the AppDiscovery or AppEnforce logs that the system is aware of this Application Deployment. Any insight/advice would be much appreciated!

SCCM 2012 Package distribution fails if "Copy the content in this package to a package share on distribution points is active"

Hi, I have a strange Problem in SCCM 2012 CU4:

If I Distribute a Package, Bootimage or Driver Package and the setting is set "Copy the content in this package to a package share on distribution points" is active, the distribution to some Distribution Points will fail.

It happens if I create a new Package and also if i update an existing Package. It does not happen if "Copy the content..." is not active!

I can see this in distmgr.log:

user(NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM) runing application(SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER) from machine (Primary Site) is submitting SDK changes from site(Sitecode)    SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER
SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER Failed to delete package file(s) from \\distributionpoint\SMSPKGH$\PackageID. Error = 145    SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER Error occurred. Performing error cleanup prior to returning.    SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER

If i delete The Package from the Distribution Point some strange things are going on in the Content Library (distmgr.log):

RemoveDirectoryW failed (0x80070091) for \\?\UNC\distributionpoint\H$\SCCMContentLib\DataLib\PackageID.1\testreplica_subfolder    SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER
CContentDefinition::DeleteFiles INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE from FindFirstFile.    SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER
RemoveDirectoryW failed (0x80070091) for \\?\UNC\distributionpoint\H$\SCCMContentLib\DataLib\PackageID.1.559bc642    SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER

What i tried:

  • Check local Admin rights on the Distributionpoint (DP is controlled with Machine Account)
  • Check Exclutions of AV Scanner
  • Remove AV Scanner
  • Reboot
  • Post CU4 Hotfix

I installed the DP with another user and changed site System Installation Account to "Site Servers Computer Account. "The problem seems to come up with CU4 but im not 100% sure.

Thanks for your help!!!

Deployment Type Requirements

Super-quick question. If I add a Requirement where there wasn't one before for an application that is already deployed to a collection and installed on computers, do I need to do anything like update content? How does the client become aware of the new Requirement, can I trigger it using Machine Policy or Application Deployment Evaluation on the client?

Thanks!

Query for Application/Package Windows Installer Information

Does anyone have a query to find applications and packages where installation source management has been enabled? This information is on the Windows Installer tab when looking at the Properties for Package Programs and the Programs tab (Product code field) when looking at the Properties of an Application Deployment Type.

I have been through the database multiple times trying to find the table or view that holds this information so I can create this query but can't seem to locate it.

Thank you.

Hey guys... Need a suggestion on this... We've decided to uninstall Firefox (any version) from the computers.. and I identified that there are many versions of firefox when I pulled up the report. unfortunately, when I tried to uninstall from few PC's... the helper.exe is missing, and I've downloaded the latest version of firefox, created a new package for helper.exe, added the new firefox version as its dependency, and uninstalling the firefox.

I know its a tedious task .. but just wanted to check if there is a better way to uninstall firefox , hassle free..

any suggestion is welcome

Hi There,

We have recently deployed Box Edit for our users. The application is supposed to be available in software center for the users to install. Much to our frustration, once it installs it's forcing a reboot. The return code success 0 is set to no restart. Despite this setting the applications keeps restarting the machines where it gets installed. My machine rebooted too and the below is what I found in the Windows event viewer. Your help is much appreciated.

The process C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\Box\Box for Office 4.1.1042\BoxForOffice-4.1.1042.0.exe  has initiated the restart of computer XYZ on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: Application: Installation (Planned)
 Reason Code: 0x80040002

"Download content from distribution point and run locally" not working!

$

Hi!

I have a problem where "Download content from distribution point and run locally" is not working and "Run from DP" is working.

It's the same for all clients, packages, applications and task sequences and because it work running the app from the DP, it's not anything wrong with the distribution to the DP.

I Find these rows in CAS.log:

Matching DP Location found 0 - http://SCCM-SERVER.domain.corp/SMS_DP_SMSPKG$/SE10013B	ContentAccess	2015-08-28 15:18:03	2432 (0x0980)
Matching DP Location found 1 - \\SCCM-SERVER.domain.corp\SMSPKGE$\SE10013B\	ContentAccess	2015-08-28 15:18:03	2432 (0x0980)

Its the same package and server, how can it find a DP Location for a UNC-path and not http ?

In DataTransferService.log i find rows like these:

UpdateURLWithTransportSettings(): NEW URL - http://SCCM-Server.domain.corp:80/SMS_DP_SMSPKG$/SE10013B/sccm?/File.msi

If I browse them in IE, the file is downloaded so it's really there!

Any ideas?
