Application Deployment to Remote Sites

$

We are deploying Office 2013 to many PC's in our environment. Soon we will be deploying this to remote sites that have 50 - 75 PC's. We have one SCCM site server at Site A. Our remote sites are setup as distrubution points with AD boundaries. The remote sites have a site to site VPN connection that is fairly slow (10-20 mb). I am trying to figure out the best way to deploy this Office 2013 application to these remote sites without making any SCCM site configuration changes (basically using my site setup the way it is with our site server at Site A and then the remote sites being setup as distrubtition points). I currently have an application created for these remote sites but the content is pointing to a server on Site A. My question is then:

1. Would it be best to copy the Office 2013 install content to each remote site server to a file share, and then on our main sccm site, create an application and point to the content on these remote site servers for the installation files? And then of course chose the remote server as the only distribution point? My thought is by doing it this way, nothing gets copied over the site to site pipe between the main site and the remote site. Or does sccm still copy files back onto itself?

2. Or is better to keep the content on the sccm server file share, but distribute it to the remote sites distribution points? My only fear with doing it this way is it will take the connection down due to having to copy 700 mb over a 10-20 mb pipe that gets used for everything.

Hopefully my explanation makes sense...

Application Detection Rule for MUI

Hi Everyone,

I'm deploying (or at least trying to) MUI for windows 10.

My problem is the DETECTION RULE, I've found out that when you installa a MUI in the registry of windows it's added under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MUI\UILanguages

And there you can find for example: it-IT, de-DE , ....

My problem is that I've tryed to put in the detection rule to find out the ""folder"" fr-FR, but it doesnt work.

Maybe im doing something wrong, the actual detection rule that I'm using is this one:

I've also tryed to use as detection method the value of the LCID key (REG_DWORD) but no luck...

Reboot message pc when not rebooted 30 days

Hi,

I would like to:

1.send a message to pc's which have not rebooted for 30 days (collection exists) and force them to

reboot.
2.send a message to pc's which have a pending reboot (collection exists) and didn't reboot for 1

week.

Therefore I tested this simple powershell, sent via an application:

$wshell = New-Object -ComObject Wscript.Shell
$wshell.Popup("Your pc hasn't rebooted for 30 days. `r`n `r`n A reboot will be forced within 12 hours

as from now.",0,"Reboot Message")

That works fine, users get a popup. I trigger a forced reboot afterwards and use this as detection method for the first scenario:

$boottime = Get-CimInstance -ClassName win32_operatingsystem | select lastbootuptime -ExpandProperty

lastbootuptime
$boottime -ge (get-date).AddDays(-30)

The second scenario, I can find my way.

It looks like everything is working well but before implementing it, would like your feedback and meanwhile sharing it (might come in handy for other users).

Quicker Application Deployment

Our images come pre-applied from the manufacturer with the SCCM client installed. Upon receipt the PCs are joined to the domain and then applications are installed manually.

I am doing a proof of concept that deploys applications based on the AD OU in which the computer object resides. It works well except for the fact that you have to wait 15-30 minutes between the computer being joined to the domain and applications being installed. Even after forcing a "Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle." Is there a way to force the client to install required applications immediately?

Supercede an app with a single deployment type with 2 deployment types

Hi,

I've got an app which needs to be superseded, we'll call this App X.  App X has a single deployment type.

App Y supersedes App X.  App Y has two deployment types (one for laptops and one for all others)

If I try to supersede App X with App Y I have to choose the deployment type I wish to replace App X.  This is no good as the deployment type should be automatically selected using the requirements rules.

Is there a way around this other than wrapping it is a script so I only have a single deployment type for App Y?

App X is an App-V app, App Y is msi.

Thanks

SCCM - Application Catalog - How to retrieve applications installed by the user ?

Hello guys,

Using PowerShell (or GUI) I want to retrieve the application installed by a specific user using the Application Catalog.
I'm able to retrieve the application requests that need an approval via something like:

Get-WMIObject -computerName <SCCM_SERVER> -NameSpace 'root\SMS\Site_<SiteCode>' -class SMS_UserApplicationRequest

But what about the apps that do NOT need an approval ? Where can i find this information ?

Any help would be appreciated Thanks!

Application Deployment Type Detection Rule if Registry Key does NOT exist

I'm wanting to deploy an application in SCCM to machines in which a particular registry key does NOT exist. By default, "This registry setting must exist on the target system to indicate presence of this application" but I don't have any other available options because I am not looking for any particular value of the key.

Below is my current Detection Rule:

Basically, I'm in search of a way to set it to "This registry setting mustNOT exist on the target system to indicate presence of this application.

Any suggestions?

SCCM 12 OSX Application Deployment not working.

It would be great if someone could shed some light on these connection problems. My macs are partially enrolled, meaning they show up in system center as a mobile device icon but never change to a workstation. I also cant deploy software to my macs. I click Connect Now button in Configuration Manager preference menu and it says it connects but it never downloads or installs anything.

Some of my log from the mac client...

SCCM 2012 R2 - Applicationcatalog issue

Hello

I have a problem with an ApplicationCatalog site. Applications takes over 1 hour to become available for users. The contents for the application is available on all distribution points. I have checked all the logs and I cannot find any hints to why it is slow. The applications have been created with an automatic script. I have tried setting the deployment time earlier with no luck. Suspecting stuck in the flow somewhere. How can I track what applications become available in ApplicationCatalog?

Any help appreciated

Regards Øyvind

Deploy Deep Linked applications to a device collection

$

Hello together,

as the topic already says: I want to deploy a deep linked application (like Yammer for Windows Phone 8.1) to a device collection.

The device collection is based on a query which adds all windows phone OS to the "all windows phone devices" device collection.

The point is that if I deploy these application to the all windows phone devices collection, the app is not shown in company portal.

Now I'm asking me, is this even possible or is there a technical limitation, that these apps will only shown, if I deploy it to a user collection? Because user collection deployments are all working as desired. I'm just facing issues, if I choose a device collection.

Thanks for every answer

Multiple connection groups with same App-V package?

Hi,

I 'd need to make a new connection group (Office 2013 AppV package with proofing tools App-V package) to test if name changes of App-V packages will affect working of the App-V package.

I can use the same App-V package in mutiple connection groups, right? Reason why I ask is that I remember vaguely I read somewhere you could with an App-V management server but not with sccm 2012 (but not sure about that).

Please advise.
