SVChost is consuming 95% of memory usage

$

Hi,

After deploying the patches for the month of September, we encountered a very strange issue on many of the laptops. SVChost is consuming more than 95% of memory. When I use the process explorer to find the list of services, I found that there are 11 services running that includes BITS, WMI, and Windows Update services.

I tried the steps mentioned in this link:-

How do I fix this high CPU usage svchost virus or whatever it is?

I ran the  batch file mentioned in the comment section as we don't have the option to disable the Windows Update. The user did not complained for the two days after running the script but the issue restarted after two days.

Can anyone suggest me a solution. The issue keeps on increasing and need to find a solution soon.

Interpreting Application Compliance State Codes

$

Hi

Can anyone clarify what the Application Compliance State codes correspond to please?

For reference, they are 0,1,2,4,6

Are they the exact same order as the following? (taken from https://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/gg682201.aspx)

Success – The application deployment succeeded or was found to be already installed.
In Progress – The application deployment is in progress.
Unknown – The state of the application deployment could not be determined. This state is not applicable for deployments with a purpose of Available. This state is typically displayed when state messages from the client are not yet received.
Requirements Not Met – The application was not deployed because it was not compliant with a dependency or a requirement rule, or because the operating system to which it was deployed was not applicable.
Error – The application failed to deploy because of an error.
Thanks

Hello All,

I am trying to write a WQL query that will find all successful installations on workstations from a given deployment ID. The deployment has since been removed, but I think I can still obtain the deployment ID from logs. Is this possible to achieve?

I need to know how many workstations it was installed on before the deployment was pulled. Very new to WQL and still learning. Currently reading this:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/library/gg712323.aspx

Cheers.

SCCM 2012 Application Source List Management

$

Hi

Our SCCM environment has been upgraded from 2007 to 2012.

One problem i see is that, the source list from clients are still pointing to the old SCCM packages source.

The collections are configured in a way that, it is query based, and self reducing, if the application is installed.

So basically if you already had the app installed, it will not show up in the collection.

The application is configured correctly with the software GUID listed in the Deployment Type (programs).

Now the question is, to get the correct Source List configured on the client, i assume that i need to have the client show up in the collection, and go through the Windows Installer Source List Update Cycle. Is this correct?

Or will source list fix itself on the client, even if the client is not in the collection of the app in question?

Thanks, DM.

Deploying Office 2013 using an update installation while removing Office 2010 Tools and SharePoint Workspace

$

Hi all,

I have seen various old posts about the issue where deploying Office 2013 doesn't remove Office 2010 completely. It seems that you can only use some scripts or bat files to uninstall Office 2010 first before installing Office 2013. Is there no newer solution for this that isn't a workaround as yet? Something you can set in the Office 2013 OCT? I would prefer to not have to remove Office 2010 first as I would like the users current Office settings to be migrated with an upgrade. For example, I would like them to be able to keep their Outlook settings at least, the PST files locations, Outlook rules, signatures, etc.

If there isn't a better way I am also looking at this solution:

https://www.reddit.com/r/SCCM/comments/2unbp8/anyone_else_having_issues_with_office_2013/

I would be coping the .vbs files into the Office 2013 network location and creating a .bat file with the following code:

:remove Microsoft Office 2007 suites
cscript %~dp0offscrub07.vbs ALL /Quiet /NoCancel

:remove Microsoft Office 2010 suites
cscript %~dp0offscrub10.vbs ALL /Quiet /NoCancel

:install Office 2013
setup.exe /adminfile admin.msp

*A note on using the Office scrub, it will also remove things like Project and Visio which you might like to keep so you need to use additional switches:

Usage: OffScrub07.vbs [List of config ProductIDs] [Options]

So for example, “OffScrub07.vbs ACCESS,STANDARD,VISSTD /S /Q /NoCancel” would uninstall Access 2007 Standalone, Office 2007 Standard, and Visio Standard 2007

Thanks

Manual Removal of Office 2010 during Unattended 2013 install

$

As I'm sure it has been discussed many times before, the Office 2013 OCT deployment does a horrible job removing all Office 2010 components properly.  Even with the option to "remove previous versions of Office before installing" selected, there will still be pieces of Office 2010 lingering behind.  It has been reported to me by our support department that this can randomly cause issues with Office 2013.

In these cases, our support group must manually remove the Office 2010 remnants and run a manual repair of Office 2013. Not ideal on 1000 systems.

To bypass all of this mess, I've attempted to add a command line via the Office Config Tool to remove Office 2010 as well as Lync 2010.  I have configured OCT to Run a batch filebefore installing Office2013 via the "Add installations and run programs" area.  The batch file has 2 lines.

\\<server>\<share>\Office2010\Install\setup.exe /uninstall ProPlus /config \\<server>\<share>\silentuninstall.xml

\\<server>\<share>\Lync2010\LyncSetup.exe /silent /uninstall

Nothing too fancy here.  Note that this batch file works as intended if I manually run it from command line on a workstation. So, I know that all of these commands are good.  Also note, the sms installer account has access to the server and shares specified in my commands.

This seems like it should be such an easy thing for OCT to pull off, but it just blows right by my batch file as if it doesn't exist. Am I missing something here?  What can I do in OCT to ensure that it doesn't ignore this command?

Thanks,

David

All Application deployment stages work fine until enforce application. Enforce application never happens until deadline, Service windows is wide enough to install a bunch of application, but ... Logs didn't tell me anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Deploying Application to user on a schedule doesn't work.

HI, I just setup an application to deploy to a user group. I set it to "required" with a schedule. The application didn't wait for the schedule and it just started installing the application for the users machine; which in fact caused the machines to reboot in the middle of work.

Does schedule not work for applications, if its set to "required"?

Application Catalog Failover

Hi,

I have a single primary site installed as below.

-Dedicated DB server with SMS provider and RSP

- Primary Site server with App <g class="gr_ gr_264 gr-alert gr_gramm Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="264" id="264">catalog,MP</g> and DP

-Dedicated Server with APP Catalog, MP, <g class="gr_ gr_347 gr-alert gr_gramm Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="347" id="347">DP</g> and SUP

I am assuming <g class="gr_ gr_510 gr-alert gr_spell ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="510" id="510">Appcatalog</g>, MP and DP would support failover of the site server. But when I disconnect the site server from <g class="gr_ gr_1027 gr-alert gr_gramm Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="1027" id="1027">network</g> and then from a client I opened software center and clicked Application Catalog Link, and it still points to the <g class="gr_ gr_797 gr-alert gr_spell ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="797" id="797">appcatalog</g> URL of the site server and it is not automatically failing over to the one from the dedicated server.

will it not work this way and do we have to type in the URL manually? A user <g class="gr_ gr_1361 gr-alert gr_spell ContextualSpelling multiReplace" data-gr-id="1361" id="1361">wont</g> <g class="gr_ gr_1360 gr-alert gr_gramm Grammar multiReplace" data-gr-id="1360" id="1360">want</g> to do that.

thanks,

Is there any way of determining whether an installed application was deployed via Device or User collection?

Hi experts,

I would like to be able to determine whether an application that was deployed via ConfigMgr, was done so via a deployed to the device or installed via the Application catalog by a user on that device.

Is there such a record stored anywhere?

Thanks,

install application after hours

I'm working on upgrading office from 2010 to 2013 on about 11,000 PCs.  I've tested upgrading during regular business hours but it's causing errors if office apps are open. I can force them closed but i'm afraid this will cause to much disruption or loss of documents.

What I would like to do is wake up my PCs after hours (11pm-5am) and preform the office upgrade.  so far I have not gotten this to work.  is this possible?  can someone help?

Thanks

Add HKLM keys via installation script

I have a software installation script which I am pushing out as a SCCM application.  When I run the script manually on the computer the registry keys are added with no problems.  When I run the application through SCCM, the software installs but the registry keys do not.

What am I doing wrong?

The application calls install.bat which consists of:

@echo off

@echo Installing ChemOffice 15
@echo.
@echo Please do not close this window as it will close automatically
@echo once the installation has completed.

Hello,

I am trying to test deploy a package but for Windows 8.1 machines, this doesnt seems to work and gives below in Execmgr.log. Have tried few Windows 8.1 machines but its same on all.

Remains stalled at the below status and doesn't proceed at all. There are no errors though in any of the log files.

The same package works flawlessly for Windows 7 machines.

Have tried EXE, MSI files and even created a new package from scratch but its the same for Windows 8.1 machines.

Any suggestions ?

Deploy software packages and applications (roles) to rolebased assets

$

Hi everybody,

I'm new to SCCM and I need some advice about how to deploy software suites (fixed lists of software packages and applications) automatically to our rolebased assets. Rolebased assets are assets that have predefined software suites or 'roles'. Combinations of several roles on a single machine are possible. We currently use Altiris NS for our software deployments. The system I have there is as follows.

- regkey on the local machine defining the role(s) for that asset (values are streamed from our CMDB into the local registry)

- dynamic collection for each role based on the value in the regkey

- task assigned to the collection to install the role(s) (a fixed list of packages and applications)

- as stated several roles can be assigned to a single asset

For the deployment of several roles to the same machine we use a in house built solution called Sequence Installer (SQI). SQI keeps track of which role it is installing and will put other roles in a queue. It also has retry and reset functionalities. In case of failure it will automatically retry from the failed step. We can also manually restart the SQI from the start or from the failed step.

We are planning to migrate towards SCCM 2012 R2 and the purpose is to do as much as possible out-of-the-box. Meaning SQI should become obsolete and replaced by SCCM built-in functionality.

For SCCM, I'm thinking to do it like this: use the regkey to populate a collection for each role and work with a task sequence for the role installation. I'm sure that will work, but perhaps there are far better and simpler ways to do this in SCCM? Furthermore, I'm afraid SCCM will not be as flexible as SQI when it comes to automatically retrying and/or resuming the installation sequence in case of failure (failures caused by something that doesn't need manual intervention of course, like source corruption, non-blocking failures, et cetera).

Another way of doing it could be UDA, create a functional user representing each role and assign software to the user. Then link the assets needing a role as primary devices to the user representing the role and pre-deploy the software (in an OSD scenario). But again, also in this scenario I need the capability to automatically restart and retry failures.

It would be great if I could get some other opinions on the subject, thanks guys!

Kind regards,

Chris
