Application deployment with global conditions question

$
0
0

I'm deploying Office 2013 w/ SP1 on ConfigMgr 2012 R2.

I need to check for existence of 2 folders on users' desktops and delete them if they exist.  If I want to do this as part of the deployment, I can create a global condition.

I want the folders to also be deleted though.  Can that be done there or am I better to split the work to check ahead of time and do it with compliance and package (deletion script) deployment?

Application not discovered for Office 2013

Hi,

I've been trying to resolve this fro quite a awhile without success. I am deploying Microsoft Office 2013 via an application with detection, but all clients fail and also fails within an OSD task sequence. Below is a snippet from AppEnforce.log:

I have tried several detection methods, with the main one being from the TechNet document here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/dn708063.aspx and it will not detect. I've even tried just detecting OUTLOOK.EXE, and despite it being there when the detection runs, SCCM still fails to discover it.

Office installs perfectly fine and runs fine. Same happens to Office 2016.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Microsoft Office 2013 Post deployment updating

$

We are using SCCM 2012 R2 to push out Office 2013 to all of our systems.  Up until 2 weeks ago, Office was being pushed with both Lync and Visio Viewer not available to the user, but Lync 2013 from a different package was being pushed.  I have found a useable script that is already setup that would do a silent uninstall of that version.  I want then to be able to then apply a post deployment update that will install Lync from the Office Suite that was used to initially deploy this. I also have update the MSP file so Office is now being deployed on new systems with Lync installed the way it was intended. I also found that I could go and modify the config.xml file within the office suite which would also update and add Lync once it is removed. Here is what I update:

<Configuration Product="ProPlus">

                <Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="no" SuppressModal="yes"

AcceptEula="yes" />

               <Logging Type="standard" Path="%temp%" Template="Microsoft Office

Professional Plus Setup(*).txt" />

               <USERNAME Value="Company Name" />

                <COMPANYNAME Value="Company Name" />

                <!-- <INSTALLLOCATION Value="%programfiles%\Microsoft Office" /> -->

                <!-- <LIS CACHEACTION="CacheOnly" /> -->

                <!-- <LIS SOURCELIST="\\server1\share\Office;\\server2\share\Office" /> -->

                <!-- <DistributionPoint Location="\\server\share\Office" /> -->

               <OptionState Id="LyncCoreFiles" State="local" Children="force" />

                <Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="Never" />

                <!-- <Command Path="%windir%\system32\msiexec.exe" Args="/i \\server\share

\my.msi" QuietArg="/q" ChainPosition="after" Execute="install" /> -->

</Configuration>

Those that are highlighted are what I changed to effect this update.

Here is where I run into my confusion.  I already have a package with Office setup to install correctly in a task sequence, but how do I apply this without breaking the other.  Do I have to make an additional copy of the office folder and use that then to make the updates post deployment?  I know that the task sequence is using the MSP file, so I don't want to break that by putting this back in its original location.  If I place it in the root of where Office resides then I should be able to use: \\server\share\Office15\setup.exe /config and create a new application package to push out the above update to install Lync.

Thank You for any assistance........

Distribution fails for some DP's : Failed to make a network connection to ADMIN$ (0x4d8).

I am scratching my head to isolate the distribution fails for some of the DP, even tried to redistribute ends with same error.

If I verify the content status it show as below error.

Distribution Manager failed to connect to the distribution Point.

Possible Cause:Distribution manager cannot access the distribution point machine because of access permission issues.
Solution: Make sure that the site server machine account or site system installation account has administrative permission on the distribution point machine.

And I analyzed the "distmgr.log" file in Primary Server it shows below error in the logs, I was trying to find a solution but no luck.

Error occurred. Performing error cleanup prior to returning.
Failed to make a network connection to \\DP Server FQDN\ADMIN$ (0x4d8).
Cannot establish connection to ["Display=\\DP Server FQDN\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=EM1"]\\DP Server FQDN\. Error = 1240

CAS, Primary server and account used are added as admins in DP servers Admin group. Admin share and C$ has already been enabled, manually verified to access it from both Primary as well CAS.

Even i tired to resolved the DP hostname and FQDN from Primary, CAS and vice versa. Kindly let me know, what causes this issue.

Thanks in advance.

SCCM 2012 Software deployement issue

Hi,

I have a created an .msi package and trying to deploy it but it is getting failed. I have tried every possible switch that I could use but every time it is failed. If I check “exemgr. Log” file it says “execution is complete for program to install. The exit code is 0. Execution status is success”

Switches I have used : 1. "C:\Windows\system32\msiexec.exe" /i "test.msi"  /qn

2. msiexec /i test.msi /qn

3. msiexec /i test.msi /quiet

If I use the same switches through command prompt, installation goes successful. It is happening on every computer.

Please suggest??

Thanks

SCCM Add /qn to command line when deploying applications, by desing?

$

Hi!

When i creating application for MSIs i set the command line to "Msiexec /i <MSIfile.msi> /q" but when i look in AppEnforce.log i see that SCCM add another /qn to the command line.

I suspect that it's the "Installation Program Visibility" property in the User Experience tab that does this.

So to my question, is this by design and should i omit /q to the command line and let SCCM add it after?

All my MSI applications looks like this.

Cannot access the Application Catalog and it shows a very odd message

The Application Catalog has been working fine on one of my admin workstations that I use for testing and now it just started showing this very strange message below.

This is occurring on Windows 7 SP1 system, not Windows 8, and the latest version of Silverlight is already installed.

I have not been able to find any online that can help me on this so far.

Thanks everyone.

Supersendence physical virtual package to have as well physical as virtual package deployed

$

Hi,

I have a physical and App-V package of notepad++.  Most people need the App-V package, so they have it via a computer collection “Virtual - Notepad++”.  In the App-V package, there is a supersedence of the physical package notepad++

Some  users however appear to need notepad++  plugins and need the physical package. So I created a collection “Physical – Notepad++” and an exclusion of the collection  “Phyiscal – Notepad++”  on  “Virtual – Notepad++” collection,  to which I deploy the physical package but the virtual package should be uninstalled first. However, I can’t create a supersedence there since it would be superseding one another.

Please advise howto accomplish this.

Frequent Chrome updates: howto automate?

$

Hi,

We have Google Chrome in App-V for endusers.

Not sure if Chrome is a good application to offer via App-v (because of plugins –which we don’t offer/sequence-), so that’s a first question. Then we ‘d like to keep Chrome really up-to-date & automate this process in this way that we deploy the update together with our Windows updates (option “pending deployments will also install within 60 days”).

So the question is: howto automate this process/these updates the most convenient (least manual input) way:

-using App-V (then we’d have to sequence it every x days/months), that would be the nicest option since we use also only App-V for RDS (and Chrome is used there) OR we could offer the package physically

- using application: we don’t have SCUP or Shavlik, or there other options?

Please advise. J.

Powershellscript: poll Ad groups for SCCM, insert changed objects

$

Hi,

We have a administration system which puts software requests in AD groups, these AD group are polled by SCCM 2012 collections, to these collections software is deployed. These queries of SCCM collections puts a heavy load on SCCM whereas we want to move the load to another server.

We can’t make the administration system put the computer objects directly in SCCM collections, therefore we would like to make a script that polls the limited number of AD groups and inserts the computer/user ojbects which are added/removed.

So it would be something like

Foreach ($adgroup in $adgroups)

{

Get-adgroupmembership $adgroup

#See changes compared to previous check = $changedobjects

Add-CMDeviceCollectionDirectMembershipRule -CollectionName "collection" -ResourceId ((Get-CMDevice -name $changedobjects).ResourceID )

}

Then there should be a check for errors and errors should be logged.

I wonder if such a script doesn’t exist yet.

Please advise. J.

File-based Detection method where folder path contains an apostrophe

$

I have to deploy a number of legacy applications that use a VB6 setup (not MSI) and the installations do not populate the registry in any useful way. For all of them I am using a file-based Detection method (e.g. app.exe in %ProgramFiles%\AppName, etc). This works fine for all but one of them and it seems to be because the folder path contains an apostrophe ( %ProgramFiles%\Contosos dept).

In each case I configure the file detection by browsing to the executable on a machine where it the app has been deployed to eliminate typos and this works for all the other applications but not the one where the path contains an apostrophe.  I am aware having apostrophes in folder paths should be avoided but we have no choice as the application is developed by a third party.

I realise I can use a script detection (e.g. Powershell’s Test-path) but would prefer to keep it as simple and clear as possible as well as keep it consistent with how I have configured detection logic for other applications from this third-party. I tried escaping using “\” and dropping the apostrophe altogether but had no success. The UI doesn't allow you to put the folder path in double-quotes.

The only post here that seemed vaguely relevant after a quick search was

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/19b287c7-89b3-4a6e-ae09-4295ad2ace5c/application-install-fails-in-software-center-appenforcelog-shows-exit-code-0-?forum=configmanagerapps but just removing the apostrophe from the configured folder path did not help in my situation

Has anyone come across an issue with the file detection method like this before?

Hi Team,

I need to know is there any to do only System restart using Application Management.

My requirement is to restart the system using SCCM native application management without application or patch installation.

Using SCCM to differentiate between Visio Professional 2010 and Visio Standard 2010

$

Hi Guys so heres my current issue.

We use SCCM to install Visio Professional 2010 or Visio Standard 2010 on PC`s in our environment.

I am trying to find out which PC`s have Visio Professional and Which have Visio Standard.

now normally i could just use this query to find which version is installed:

SELECT DISTINCT sys.Netbios_Name0 AS [Machine Name], sys.User_Name0 AS [User Name],

    arp.DisplayName0 AS [MS Visio version]

FROM       v_R_System AS sys

INNER JOIN v_Add_Remove_Programs AS arp ON sys.ResourceID = arp.ResourceID

WHERE      (arp.DisplayName0 LIKE '%Visio Standard%')

Problem is under add remove programs a computer that has Standard activated also shows it has Premium installed.

Below is a screen shot of "add remove programs" for a computer with Visio Professional installed

And here is a PC that has Visio Standard installed:

So my question is how can i differentiate between which PC has Standard and which has Professional in a report without having to log onto each PC to check?

I'm trying to get an application, Java, to install on all of our Win7 PC's. That's easy, but I want to monitor and make sure that if a user uninstalls Java, it gets re-installed. I know it's possible, but I can't figure it out.
