Applications not visible in Software Center

some Clients have Problems to show Application Deployments in Software Center. In Deployment Monitoring Tool I can see the Deployments. But if you select the Deployment I get the Error "DT cannot be empty". So I think the Policy isn't downloaded correctly.

It seems that client can't see any DP for them to download the application. Searching the internet, I found similar issues that are all pointing to boundaries. I have checked my boundaries and they all seems ok and configured properly. Actually, I was to able deploy software updates a few days ago and there was no recent change done on the sccm server especially with the boundaries.

What else can be done for this?

Thanks!

SCCM 2012 Driving Me Crazy!

Hi,

I'm having a frustrating time using system center 2012 configuration manager. I have done a full scan on my AD and it's found all the computers on my network. The problem I am facing is that I want a Windows 7 Test Group device collection, but no matter how many times I "add resource" or "add selected items to existing device collection" the computer does not move from the "all devices" group to my test group.

How can I accomplish this? It's really frustrating and angering me as I want to simply deploy Windows 7 out to a test group.

Thanks

Ash

A batch file script has been given at the end of Technet Help, and it does work as well. We've created Application in SCCM but not sure how could we configure the Detection Rule. Can anyone help us.

Here is the Batch File script:

Content Prestaging

I don't understand the actual logic behind Prestaging.

Let us take Dp01 as the Distribution Point name. Since the bandwidth is less I'm deciding to presage the content. So I'm creating a .PKGX file using the console.

Now that file need to be manually copied into DP01 over the network.

This is what my understanding about prestaging.

My question is,  manual copy and conventional Distribution use the same network, how come pre-staging is faster?

Best practice for executing application pre-installations / uninstalls

Dear folks,

I'm looking for a best practice approach for running an uninstallation of an older application, when updating to a newer version of the application.

Here's the scenario:

  • We have an application that is being used in two different versions, let's call them version 10.1 and version 11.1.
  • Version 11.1 is a newer version from 10.1.
  • Both versions must be offered as Available via Software Center side-by-side, as some users require 10.1 and others need 11.1
  • If version 11.1 is installed by the user, the uninstaller for 10.1 must be executed first, as the 11.1 installer requires no existence of the earlier version
  • Downgrading from 11.1 to 10.1 is not a requirement

I tried to experiment with the SCCM 2012 supersedence feature and running an Uninstall of 10.1 before installing 11.1. This works great if version 11.1 is meant to REPLACE 10.1 entirely, but not in our situation where we want to KEEP both versions side by side.

It seems to me that the Supersedence feature (with running an uninstallation command) is not the right approach for that situation.

What is the best practice approach to run the version 10.1 uninstall command (in case the user starts the 11.1 installation via Software Center)? I'm looking for a solution, where I don't need to fiddle around with creating batch scripts that try to execute some uninstall commands before the actual setup runs, but instead something that relies upon the uninstall information that is already defined in the SCCM repository.

Thanks a lot for advice or assistance to find the best approach for that.

Application catalog web portal not working

Hi Guys,

I can't get the Application catalog web portal get working in my environment and getting the below errors on both components.

Portal Web Site Control Manager detected PORTALWEB is not responding to HTTP requests.  The http status code and text is 500, Internal Server Error.Possible cause: Internet Information Services (IIS) isn't configured to listen on the ports over which PORTALWEB is configured to communicate. Solution: Verify that the designated Web Site is configured to use the same ports which PORTALWEB is configured to use.Possible cause: The designated Web Site is disabled in IIS. Solution: Verify that the designated Web Site is enabled, and functioning properly.

For more information, refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base.

portlctl.log says the same:

PORTALWEBs http check returned hr=0, bFailed=1SMS_PORTALWEB_CONTROL_MANAGER

PORTALWEB's previous status was 4 (0 = Online, 1 = Failed, 4 = Undefined)

STATMSG: ID=8000 SEV=E LEV=M SOURCE="SMS Server" COMP="SMS_PORTALWEB_CONTROL_MANAGER" SYS=XXXXXXXX SITE=PR1 PID=2144 TID=668 GMTDATE=Wed

according the the below logs the roles installed successfully without any errors

SMSPORTALWEBSetup.log

SMSAWEBSVCSetup.log

1. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the roles couple of times with same results.

2. Reinstall WFC with no luck.

3. I don't want to reinstall whole IIS as I am worried if it will worsen the situation by breaking other roles.

Please anyone can you help me out ??

Deploying an application to a specific domain

Hi Experts.

I have a quick question. I have an application which needs to be deployed when a user is logged in. I understand this is fairly simple. The thing is.. Users login to multiple domains, let's say abc.com and xyz.com...and the application i want to deploy.. must be run only when a user is logged into a specific domain xyz.com and not when they login to abc.com

any help is appreciated..as always

Many Thanks, Surya

Message ID 10045 - Retry Period

Hi,

I have a case where the local disk on a device was full when an application was deployed. These devices are both showing message ID 10045 because of this (see attached). The disk has since been cleaned up.

What is the retry period in this situation? I've re-run all the local actions but nothing seems to be happening.

Thanks for any help.

Duplicate Applications in software center

Hi guys,

i have two problems i am facing last days and months (SCCM 1511 and all the clients have the 5.00.8325.1000 client version):

1. on some of my clients i see duplicate/triple applications inside software center for applications i am not deploying any more (older version of applications which are already superseded by newer versions but still exisiting in SCCM)

mostly the same applications on these clients (i already check supersedence on this applications and its fine)

On some clients it will disappear after some time and only real deployed applications are visible but on most of them i have to uninstall ccm client, deleted ccmsetup & ccm folder in %systemroot%, reboot and installed Ccmclient via windows update again and then its fine again. But i need a better solution and i want to know why it is occuring.

2. on some of my clients ccmcache folder changed from c:\windows\ccmcache (with 5gb cache size) to c:\ccm (with 250mb cache size). I guess it was happening during update from 2012 sp1 to 1511. I already changed some clients manually but i want to know how many are affected (could not be that much, mostly cache size would be too small to install big applications and so users would open a tickets) and why it happens. We have one client policy for all devices with 5gb cache size.

Has anyone ideas what to check and why its occuring?

Updating Office 2016 Pro Plus to newer version

We deployed Office 2016 Pro Plus (version 16.0.4266.1001) in our environment via SCCM by placing the package on a network share. Since we did this over the Summer newer versions of Office Pro Plus 2016 have been released.

And so our standalone package is still at version 16.0.4266.1001 and we've found out it's causing a syncing issue with OneNote. The issue is resolved in the newest version of Office 2016 Pro Plus. So we'd like to push out a software update if possible to get our standalone version of Office Pro Plus updated to the newest version. Ideally this update would run in the background and wouldn't require our users to uninstall/reinstall from Software Center.

Has anybody gone through this process and could help point me in the right direction?

I contacted our Microsoft customer support and they notified me that they only help troubleshoot deployments using the Office Deployment Tool and that I would have to open a Professional support ticket.

"Available" applications randomly installing themselves without end-user triggering

Hi, I'm running SCCM 2012 SP1 CU2.

I have a problem where a long list of "available" applications will install themselves on a workstation without any end-user action.  I'm getting reports of this happening 2 or 3 times per week in an environment of 14,000 workstations (XP and W7).

A couple minutes after a user logs on, between 30 and 70 applications get installed in quick succession.  I can confirm that these apps do NOT have a "required" deployment type; they are all "available".

It is definitely SCCM doing it, as I can see all the .MSIs in \windows\ccmcache.

AppDiscovery.log (numerous similar messages):

ActionType - Install will use Content Id: Content_c758362d... + Content Version: 1 for AppDT "application 1 (*.msi file)"
ActionType - Install will use Content Id: Content_da9231a7... + Content Version: 1 for AppDT "application 2 (*.msi file)"
ActionType - Install will use Content Id: Content_e24e32b7... + Content Version: 1 for AppDT "application 3 (*.msi file)"

DCMAgent.log (numerous similar messages):

Job::SetupJob - Add assignment (DEP-XYZ20240-ScopeId_8FB9C6D8...

CDCMAgentJob::PopulateCIsFromAssignment - [SKIPPING] CI policy Id :ScopeId_8FB9C6D8...

All the applications that are getting installed are Applications (not packages), deployed as "available", that are set to install as the user, and are targeted to a large machine collection.

We have about 70 deployments like this, but I've seen variation where between 30 and 70 of these apps will get installed.  Each incident will install a different subset of these 70 apps.

We've been cutting over our legacy packages to applications over time.  The problem was first reported about a month ago.

Ideas?

Thanks,

Nick.

Recurring Schedule Deployment of an Application - SCCM 2012

Hi,

We are converting our SCCM 2007 packages into SCCM 2012 applications and I've scenario that I could not determine the solution with new application model.

In short, I have script that I want to run on or after the 3rd  Friday 7:00 AM of each Month. Currently it exist in SCCM 2007 as package and has advertisement configured as recurring schedule with rerun behavior set to "Always rerun program". The program is set to run "only when a user is logged on" (in hidden mode) and "run with administrative rights".

The package contains only a vb script.

Now the problem I have while converting this into an application (SCCM 2012):

  1. Because it is only a script, what should I put it in Detection Method? I do not have anything to detect and I want this script to run every month based on recurring schedule.
  2. When setting up Deployment: in scheduling I could not find anything related to "recurring schedule" as it was previously available in advertisement.

Appreciate if someone knows the answer or direct me towards any available reference.

Thanks.

Adding patches to the task sequence of OS Image for win 7.

I am in the process of creating an OS Image to be deployed to the new machines. Now, there is a requirement to add all the updated patches to the image so that once the system is up, it shouldnt take time to download and install updates.

Can anyone please help about how can i go with this?

Also, how can i create a Image and test it.

Application Deployment Status is incorrect

Hi,

I've started to see a problem recently, not sure why it's just suddenly started happening but when I deploy an application the deployment status doesn't seem to make much sense.

Sometimes some computers are unaccounted for, and don't appear under any of the tabs for Success, In Progress, Error, etc. they're just lost in the ether.

On the pie chart it displays the computers might be in progress or unknown state.

Tried doing a Machine Policy cycle on all the PCs which are like this and then doing a summarization, but the stats still aren't up to date. When I look at the PC, the program has already been installed, so it's just not reporting that back to the server.

Any ideas how to go about troubleshooting this?

Thanks,

Dave

Application deployment stuck in waiting content

We have the issue of application deployment stuck in waiting for content in most of the machines on one of our account, where in the package deployment of same is going ok that rule out filtering ,antivirus or any other download issues.

1.As per the below settings download and run locally had been choose.

2.Rename of package and deployment types has been done.

3.Application newly created and distributed to the DP.
