Hi,

We would like to integrate Solarwinds Patch Manager with CM 2012 but we are lost on how should this process has to take place. In looking at their documentation there are not good step by step guides or videos to document this process.

We were wondering if someone here has been able to integrate CM 2012 with SolarWinds patch manager? If so, can you plelase share some of your build notes.

Thank you in advance.

SCCM 2012 Configuration Manager "Application Management" area Error Your data failed to save.

Note I just would like to modify it and keep getting this message below when I try to either remove it or modify it:

“Configuration Manager”
Your data failed to save. Please check your network connection and try again.

What a pain in the BUTT with this and need some Help!

Thanks

Note that all I am trying to do at this point is to either modify the current application, delete it entirely from the Application Management area and just create a brand new Application, but it keeps giving an error and slowing the process of being able to deploy any applications period, so anyone that has received this message and has some answers would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Application takes long time to show in catalog

Hi,

I want to make application available to my users with the application catalog. The user account is part of AD group, I query that group with my collection. On the collection i have a deployment for the application.

I noticed it takes a long time (more than one hour) before the user can see the application in the catalog (website). Is there a way to trigger this or to set schedule?

My client machine policy retrieval refresh is set to 15 minutes.

Hope you can help.

Known Bug? Deployment Types - Content, shows Empty Box inside some Applications

Hi Forum Members

We are seeing that some Applications that are made some days ago, show us no content under Deployment Types - Content (the Field is empty)

But the Content is still there in the Share and this happens only to some Applications from a Colleague of me.

He is using in the Foldernames things like "." or "-" or "x64" and has his own Account (different from mine). He is able to create the Packages without Problems

and we already deployed them successfully. But after some Days, the Content Field is empty (the rest of the boxes are greyed out), checked with his Account and my Admin Account, the rest of the fields seems to be okay.

Is anybody aware of a similar Problem? Is this a Known Bug?

With kind Regards

Troga (Marcus)

Application Deployment - Parameters

Hi,

Is it possible to pass a parameter while deploying an appliacation? Like for example, i have an application called A.msi with an tranform called aa.mst. I have included a new property called PARAM1 which would take an input from the SCCM admin while deploying to the collections. Baiscally i need to create an application that takes an input parameter.

Changing the Share Location

Hi there folks

I have a couple of queries about SCCM 2012 package replication please:

When you create a package under Data Access you have the ability to specify "Copy the content in this package to a package share" which is fine.  You can then create a custom share name.

1. The share is created on the same drive as the ContentLib.  Is it possible to set this to a different drive on the server?  when the file hits the share it's no longer part of SCCM's single storage so if I could put it on a different drive I could dedupe it with Windows Server 2012.

2. Can I use this share in conjunction with a Domain Based DFS?  At some sites we are likely to have multiple DPs and I would ideally like for the DP to be able to write the content into a DFS share at the remote site and have it available in the DFS.

Thanks in Advance

Application catalog error - cannot connect to the application server.

Hi all,

I have a working sccm 2012 sp1 in my lab environment with it's db on sql server 2012 sp1 cluster i tried to configure the application catalog role. The roles were installed successfully.then i tried to connect to the application catalog webportal from the client machine using the url after entering the user accounts details it shows an error saying :- "Cannot connect to application catalog server" Few steps which i tried for troubleshooting this issue :- 1. Checked the wcf activation & it was activated. 2. checked .net 4.0 & it was installed. Can this problem be related to the connection string present in cm application catalog svc site in iis. I changed the connection string but the problem is the same.i have installed app catalog role on a server where sccm db was local & everything is workin fine. Is this problem because of cluster db please provide a way to resolve this.

Thanks,

Pranay.

Setting an expiry time for a application deployment

Hi,

I've come across a problem whereby we are deploying an application using wake-up packets. While the wake up action is working fine we are finding that as long as the deployment is active, when we turn a machine it is deployed to off, it powers straight back on(even though the deployment was successful). It is also leading to a fairly significant increase in traffic on the network. I've done some reading and it looks like this is just how the wake-up proxy feature works by constantly communicating with the client it is assigned to to ensure it is awake.

To control this problem i want to be able to assign a start and expiry time for the deployment of the application. I know you can do this with the deployment settings within a package deployment but the option isn't available in an application deployment? Does anyone know if this is possible to be set else where or am i forced to use packages if i want it to expire at a specified time? Seems a bit strange if that is the case.

Thanks

Remove Content from DP

We copied a large application out to quite a few remote distribution points.  We are in need of removing this content because we are running in to disk space issues.  We went to the Application Management-Applciations and the application properties. We removed the DPs from the Content Locations tab that we didn't want the content on any longer.  However we are still seeing the content there.  Does this get removed, or do we need to do something else?  I know when we delete the applications from ConfigMan that they get removed from the servers, but we have not tried to leave the application in ConfigMan and just remove locations.  Do we have to do something manually, and if so is there a process?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Configuration Manager Software Distribution command line for Batch/CMD files

$

I am trying to use a CMD/Batch file with Configuration Manager 12 Software Updates to copy two files to a specific application folder on client machines.  I have
been unable to get the script to work with Software Distribution.  When I run the files manually they work.

I am using the command line:  CMD /c file.cmd.  I have tried various changes within the file as well.  One being COPY /Y "%~dps0*.*"
"C:\Program Files\Application"  and xcopy /RY "\\server\software\application\*.ocx" "C:\Program Files\application".

The source file location is on our software deployment share for the site server so there is no rights issue for where the files reside.  I tried running software distribution with a drive letter thinking that the unc path is an issue.  I am running always with administrative rights.  I have used vb script in the past, but would like to know the proper command lines to send out Batch and cmd files in Software Distribution.

Thanks,

Brit

ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 Repair fails when content is not in local client cache

Hi,

I'm running a SCCM 2012 SP1 environment and need to use the possibility to Repair/Change MSI's that are installed by SCCM. The MSI productcode is filled in in the relevant field and on all clients I see that the Windows Installer Source List Updater updates the package sources successfully. However, when I try to repair an application, I get a popup stating that the content cannot be found. In the drop down that appears, I see the distribution points for that specific site and when I copy the url, I can access it without issues.

Anybody have any experience with this? Is there anything I might have missed?

Thanks for your help!

Applications vs Packages and using BITS

$

I've just implemented SCCM 2012 SP1, migrating from a SCCM 2007 environment, and have some questions.  We have a GPO that is throttling BITS during the day, but with SCCM 2007 we never used the BITS enabled DP, so that never affected software deployments.  Now, with 2012, when we deploy any packages, it takes a LONG time to download.

Obviously, the BITS throttling is what is causing this (we verified this by disabling that setting in the registry).  Is there a way to deploy Packages to a client without using BITS?  In 2007, you had the choice to use BITS or not, but I do not see that same setting in 2012.  I'm just curious in case we are unable to change the BITS throttling GPO for other reasons.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Total SCCM 2012 noob - package deployment missing in app. catalog

$

I'm a guy who's spent years deploying software through the very simple Novell Zenworks 7 tools.  This SCCM world is baffling to me so please treat me like a total noob (because I am).  I've got a single SCCM server and a single site & distribution point.  I have the client deployed on all of my clients.  I've configured several user and device collections for deployments.  My problem is that I have a package deployed to a user collection.  The deployment is successfully copied to the distribution point.  When I log into a client computer as a user in that collection, I can see the deployment in the Application Catalog.  When I log in as a different user in that collection on the same computer, the Catalog is completely empty.  Neither this new deployment nor any other deployments for that collection are listed at all.  Can you tell me what the difference between users would be?  I've visited the SCCM server and checked the User Collection's membership again and again to verify that both users are listed there.

It's SCCM 2012 running on a Windows Server 2008 platform.  The clients are all Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.  Thanks for your assistance.

Application management question

Hi all,

I have two question about Application management deployment:

1. If I made a change about application deployment revision, such as the detection, will client will uninstall the applicaiton if the new dection does not meet the requiremnt automatically?

2. If I delete the deployed application on SCCM console directly, will the client uninstall deployed applicaiton automatically?

Thanks.

Consolidating Creation of Numerous Advertisment (Using Maintenance Windows?)

$

Good Afternoon -

Every week, I advertise at least one advertisement to our company.  There are ~700 workstations on the domain and management wants to deploy only a few per day to keep things safe.  We have a deployment schedule that 90% of deployed items use (especially those with reboots) which is as follows:

Current Deployment Collections (Groups)

  • Day 1 - Test Workstations - Thursday/Week 1 - 11:00pm - 6:00am
  • Day 2 - All IT Workstations - Friday/Week 1 - 11:00pm - 6:00am
  • Day 3 - Main Office Floors 6 & 7 - Monday/Week 2 - 11:00pm - 6:00am
  • Day 4 - Main Office Floors 23, 24, & 25 - Tuesday/Week 2 - 11:00pm - 6:00am
  • Day 5 - Main Office Floors 26, 27, 28, & 29 - Wednesday/Week 2 - 11:00pm - 6:00am
  • Day 6 - Remote Workstations & Main Office - Thursday/Week 2 - 11:00pm - 6:00am (Re-advertises to main office)
  • Day 7 - Remote Workstations & Main Office - Friday/Week 2 - 11:00pm - 6:00am (Re-advertises to all)

Because of this, I must create an advertisement for each of the above "deployment groups" per deployment, per day for just one week.  That equals a lot of setting up time.

I recently tried using Maintenance Windows to hopefully alleviate some of this work.  I took the 7 deployment groups above and set a re-occuring Maintenance Window for each of them for the day and time they were to deploy items.  I then created 2 "Advertisement Groups" without Maintenance Windows below:

  • Advertisement Group #1 - Contains all members in collections 1-5
  • Advertisement Group #2 - Contains all members in collections 6 & 7

Due to the 7 being over a two week period, I had to use two, not just one.

Didn't Work

My hope was that the members of the two advertisement collections would use the maintenance windows from the Deployment Collections which they are a part of - however - I don't think I thought it through enough  as it did not work.  When I tested a deployment with this method (Adobe Flash update), most of the workstations got it overnight.

I think the problem is that the member's Maintenance Windows from the other collections are either not being used - or - since Deployment Groups 6 & 7 open the maintenance window for all workstations that it worked fine, but allowed deployment to all of them.

Overall

Long story short, given that I have ~700 workstations, currently 7 deployment groups, but only 5 days to deploy; what would be the best method to set up advertisements?

Thanks!

Install an Application via Script

Hello everyone,

I have created some applications in sccm that can be installed via Software Center. Is there a way to install an Application via Script? It doesn't matter what kind of script (PowerShell, C#, COM, WMI, ...) but I am looking for a way to force the Installation of some applications via script. For example is there a way to get all required software applications and force an installation of them?

Running SCCM 2012 with  SP1 and we recently updated several software installation task sequences that we have been using for years to install approximately 20 "core applications" on our systems. Two of the 20 applications were upgraded and now when we run the task sequence, the 2 updated packages do not install. The others install as expected.
