Include hardware drivers when hardware not yet present

$

Hi,

My scenario:

I have a Dell USB 3.0 Display Link docking station that will be rolled out to the business. The DS can connect to my Dell E7240 laptop allowing ethernet, display, usb etc all through one USB 3.0 cable. When plugged in the laptop detects the new hardware but doesn't have the drivers included and tries Windows Update. Dell provides an installer for the dock but it doesn't use standard installer switches - like silent - and must be run in full mode with dialogue and buttons to click through, therefore I can't put it into the TS. However, I have managed to pull the drivers (inf, cat, sys) and have added them to the Driver Package for my E7240 but since the dock isn't attached at the time of deployment the drivers aren't added/hardware discovered. I can deploy the full Dell application for the user to run from Software Centre but I'd prefer to have the drivers already on the laptop for install without them having to do anything. In essence it's a chicken and egg scenario - no dock, no drivers - no drivers because no dock.

How might you good people suggest I tackle this?

Thanks

SCCM 2012 R2 problem with device deployment (user deployments OK)

$

I have a SCCM 2012 R2 infrastructure in place and have been using it for several months. I have noticed a problem with application and package deployments that are targeting device collections. Once the package has been distributed to the various distribution point servers and the distribution shows as successful the deployment state never changes from the grey "unknown" status. Most of the deployments I have done this way are set to run as soon as possible and for the most part I have specified that they run immediately regardless of the maintenance window. I have checked my boundaries several times and have confirmed that everything is set properly (via proper IP address ranges). The thing that perplexes me is that in my effort to get these packages deployed I decided to see if I could instead deploy to users and without any other changes I have been able to rapidly push these items (most of which are .vbs scripts that do things like copy files or create folders on workstations) without fail. The deployments often kick of within a few moments of a forced machine policy evaluation cycle. I am at my wits end to figure out why deployments go smoothly to user collections but seem to get stuck in limbo when device collections are used. I would be happy to provide any pertinent log info that would help in the diagnostic process.

I would like to add that the endpoint protection updates created through the ADR seem to be flowing (or at least the compliance state of workstations would indicate that they are). Also the Software Center and Application Catalog seem to work without any problems.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

V/r,

Chris Bolton

Does somebody have Experience with Patch Deployment in SCCM? - Deployment of own product -

we are currently using the MSP mechanism to Patch our installed products in our customer environments. Our Setups are created with Installshield. Some customers are using SCCM to deploy their software and it seems that MSPs from small companies (like our software) are not that easy to deploy if not impossible. Does anybody here have experience with Patch Deployment via SCCM? It would be a great help to know if it is even possible or how to accomplish this task.

Deploying an Application to a number of different computer models

Hi,

I have an application that I would like to deploy to a number of the older Dell models on my network. I have been looking at Global Conditions but for some reason it just isn't working.

I have created my requirement like this:

But when I try and deploy it to the test machine I get this:

If I edit the requirement to "Detect Model Equals OptiPlex 745" then it installs fine so I know my GC is returning the model correctly... But, why is it not matching the Actual Value to the Requirement when I select 'One of' as my operator?

Please tell me where I'm going wrong.

Thanks.

I am using sccm2012 R2 and trying to deploy package to uninstall Adobe shockwave player 12.1.1.151 using following script

cmd /c shockwave-test.bat

pushd "%~dp0"

msiexec /uninstall sw_lic_full_installer.msi

If run script manually on command prompt it uninstall Adobe shockwave player but deployment using sccm doesn't work.

Deployment status - success,

Message ID: 10008

program completed with success

Program and features still have Adobe shockwave player listed there.

I have also tried msiexec /x using product code as application using windows installer and registry key as detection method but same results

2007 Task Sequence will not work in 2012 after migration

$

Hi,

We have recently migrated from 2007 to 2012 and we have a Task Sequence that basically creates a series of directories, copies the content of the application locally to the machine, launches a series of bat files to enable the software, in a series of steps in the task sequence.

As such there is no programs that are contained within the package just the basic steps to copy the content from the package or DP to the machine. The package states there are zero valid programs.

When the Task Sequence is deployed to a collection the deployment just sits at in progress and program received, it does not invoke the steps in the task sequence.

Is this type of TS deployment enabled in 2012 or is there a step I am missing that will enable this type of deployment to work?

The deployment was fine in the TS in 2007, but will not execute in 2012.

Thanks in advance for any assistance on this.

Regards Gunther Reed

Adobe Flash Player ActiveX deployment doesn´t work in SCCM 2012 R2

I´ve created an Application to deploy Adobe Flash Player 15.0.0.189 (last version). I´ve tried to deploy with the msi downloaded from Adobe site, using Powershell App Deploy Toolkit, bat script.. but nothing seems to work 100%.

I have 2500 computers in my company. Working with SCCM 2012 R2.

Some computers doesn´t install;

Some install it but Internet Explorer seems to loose this configuration and doesn´t open flash videos;

Some install but doesn´t uinstall the last version, then you can see two diferent versions installed;

Do you have a definitive solution to deploy Adobe Flash Player via SCCM?

SCCM Program - VBScripting not resolving to current Directory

$

Hey Guys,

My program is pointing to a vbScript ---> cscript.exe Sample.vbs

This sample.vbs contains:

Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
Set objShell = CreateObject("Shell.Application")
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")

strCurDir    = WshShell.CurrentDirectory

strExecute = chr(34) & strCurDir & "\setup.exe" & chr(34) & " " & "/configure" & " " & chr(34) & strCurDir & "\INSTALL32UK.xml" & chr(34)

WshShell.Run strExecute, 0, true

The script is not picking the current directory --> Instead it is resolving to

"C:\windows\System32\setup.exe" /cofigure "C:\windows\system32\INSTALL32UK.xml"

The program is ever running with status in SCCM Console.

When i check one of the client logs: I could find the below error,

the specified object could not be found in wmi

Please suggest any other way that my vbscript will resolve Current Directory of my DP and run successfully,

Application installation troubleshooting help

Hello,

I am looking for resources on how to troubleshoot the client side of an application deployment.

I have deployed an application to a collection with a 1hour maintenance window, and 75% of the machines stayed stuck in status "Content Downloaded".

I would need to know what client components/logs to look at, and possibly in what order (what's the workflow on the cleint).

I am encountering the same issue with Software updates deployments.

Many thx in advance,

How top stop Office 2010 Silent Uninstall Rebooting PC's

SCUP 2011 and WSUS for SCCM 2012 using Enterprise PKI

Ok, so my own searches have been fruitless thus far.  I have my SCCM environment configured for HTTPS Only communications.  I have my PKI environment deployed and seems to be working well for software distribution and I have now tested my Software Updates for Windows 7 and that worked accordingly.  My WSUS however is currently still non-ecrypted since it is on the same server as SCCM and is working that way.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyEGWSFWyy0&noredirect=1
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh134775.aspx

Following the great video and Microsoft directions, I am trying to configure SCUP 2011 and am at the stage ofEnable publishing to an update server.  The connection tests out fine (after adding my domain user to the 'WSUS Administrators' group).  I then want to select a certificateSIGNED BY MY ENTERPRISE CA to use for the Publisher Signing.  However, I can't find instructions for how or what to do to use my Enterprise CA.  The instructions continually refer to a self signed certificate, not Enterprise CA, that we then need to force that self-signed out to the Enterprise Root and Trusted Publishers.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh134732.aspx

Thanks for that Microsoft...again they indicate I can use an Enterprise CA by stating, "For certification authority (CA) issued certificates: Add the certificate to the Trusted Publishers certificate store." but do not provide links for what settings to use.

ALL THAT BEING SAID HERE IS WHAT I HAVE DONE SO FAR:

I went on to my Lab DC and opened the Ceritificate Authority and duplicated the "Code Signing" template (is this the right one?).  I configured the Private key to be exportable, extended the timeframe to a few years, and configured security to only allow "ConfigMgr WSUS Servers" group (i created and added server to the group) to allow Enrolling.  However, I can't seem to get it to show up.  It appears "Code Signing" may be a user certificate?  Is this right?

After allowing domain admins and enterprise admins to Enroll I can see the template when requesting a user certificate. It just doesn't seem like it should be a user certificate though. Where am I going wrong?

Once I get the right certificate do I still need to push it to "Trusted Publishers"?  Seems like this should be automatic if the cerificate has been issued from the Enterprise CA.

GPUpdate /force in Task Sequence as current logged on user

$

Hi,

I am currently trying to "upgrade" around 800 installations of Microsoft Office Standard 2010 to Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus. To do this, I'll have to:

1: Install Office 2010 ProPlus
2: Uninstall Office 2010 Standard
3: Repair Office 2010 ProPlus

Due to these steps, I've decided to make a task sequence to do the magic.
So far, so good, the "upgrade" is installing, and the MAP toolkit reports are showing the correct results from my test lab.
During the repair of Office 2010 ProPlus, the Office applications cannot run, so I've created a task to copy a custom group policy to %systemroot%\System32\GroupPolicy to deny the affected users to start the applications.

After applying the group policies, I manually run a gpupdate /force on my test computer. The applications are not starting. Also - so far so good.

Ok, so here is my challenge:
Since the Task Sequence is running in context of the SYSTEM account, the applied group policy will not refresh the GPO's of the current logged on user. Meaning; during the installation / repair of Office 2010, the user can open all the applications regardless of the applied GPO's, and I'd very much like to avoid that. The TS will fail otherwise. Yes, I know I can perform a restart to apply the policies, but I'd like to avoid that as well.

Any idea how can I solve this?

Need a query where I am looking for machines that have both java 7.0.65 and any other installed java version. I need to run a parse script to remove the older versions of java from the machines.

So something where show me all the machines that hav 7.0.65 and also have any other version installed. Will run a msiexec /x "java" with a variable for all possible versions and force remove them all.

Deploying DWG TrueView 2013

$

I've been trying to deploy DWG TrueView 2013, and I think I'm finally in the right direction. A lot of the information out there is outdated at most (since most have to do with SCCM 2007).

Here's what I've found so far, and that has worked with SCCM 2012, sort of:

  1. Pre-requisites: .NET 4 (the following article IDs must be installed: 2656405, 2656351(2 updates), 2604121 (3 updates), 2656405, 2487367, 982671 (2 updates .NET 4) and 2487367)
  2. DWG TrueView product code: {5783F2D7-B028-0409-0100-0060B0CE6BBA}  (taken from the MSI included)
  3. Installation command line: setup.exe /w /t /l /q setup.ini

SCCM 2012 pushes the application to the client; however, it fails upon installation with message: The software change returned error code 0x87D01106 (-2016407290)

Now, here's the interesting part. I open a command prompt and go to the CCMCACHE folder and manually run the setup using - setup.exe /w /t /l /q setup.ini - and the application installs successfully! Looks like SCCM 2012 has a problem somewhere, and I can't figure that out.

Any ideas or pointers will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

we now work with the SCCM and deploy the Software with this System.

Normaly it works great but with 5 Users we have got the strange Problem, that they dont see anything in the Accplication Catalog, the hole Site stay white.

If we copy and Paste the URL to Firefox we can see the Programs but not install them (they stay on 0%)

We Compare the Users but dont find anything similar that an be the fault by now.

In our logs we see that this Users dont authentificate themselfs as users, but as computers.

It is still the same Problem if we switch the workstation to a fresh installed.

So we guess that there is a problem with this users.

But we dont know why this 5 users from more than 900 have this Problems

OS is WIn7

Any hint where we can look at?

Silent install application with varying license key (not with TS)

$

Hi guys

I want to deploy an application through sccm 2012 r2 with a license key in the command line. So far no problem, with the paramaterISX_SERIALNUMBER="XXX" I can handle that. So command line looks like:

msiexec /i "XY.msi" ISX_SERIALNUMBER="XXX"

But here's the problem. That license key changes very often, usually a key can just be used for 2-3 installation. After that I get a new key which I have to use (we have no volume licensing... yes I know... do not ask...).

I tried to create a machine variable (device - properties - variables) with the license key. but I didn't manage to get the variable in the command line correctly. I triedISX_SERIALNUMBER="%variable%" but it didn't work. I realised that those variables just can be used with a TS. But I really don't want to use a TS for software deployments...

After that I thought I'll try to get the variable with powershell and it worked. But just with an Administrator account who has access to the server. If i run the script in system context while deploying, it fails...

Does anyone have another way to deploy Software with a Licence Key as a computer variable? Or any other way to specify a specific Licence key for a specific computer?

thanks in advance

p.s. I know I could entering it manually... but that's not an option at this time.
