.NET 4.5.1 Install only works when running on a UI session

I have created an application package for .NET 4.5.1 offline installer with the following installation command:

NDP451-KB2858728-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe /q /norestart /ChainingPackage "ADMINDEPLOYMENT"

When SCCM attempts to install this application after a machine policy refresh the install fails with the following errors:

[12/13/2013, 8:51:47] Directory 'C:\e5bb6b6b88f53e9031f3ffa7a961\' has been selected for file extraction
[12/13/2013, 8:51:47] Extracting files to: C:\e5bb6b6b88f53e9031f3ffa7a961\
[12/13/2013, 8:51:47] Error 0x80004005: Failed to extract all files out of box container #0.
[12/13/2013, 8:51:47] Error 0x80004005: Failed to extract
[12/13/2013, 8:51:47] Exiting with result code: 0x80004005

Manually going to the machine and running the installation via the Software Center results in the application installing correctly and reporting back to SCCM as a success.

I've tried going the route of the web installer but it fails because it can't get past the corporate proxy and I'd prefer the offline installer anyways.  The web installer does manage to extract itself via SCCM though.  I have already tried redownloading the installer but it didn't make a difference.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Could anyone help on this.  Also is there any restriction to install WSUS on a Domain Controller?

PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit question

i try to run a execute-process With

Execute-Process -verb runas -Path "Setup.exe" -Parameters "/s /v`"/qn INSTALLDIR=\`"$Env:ProgramFiles\Avid\iNEWS4\`"`"" -WindowStyle Hidden -IgnoreExitCodes '3010'

The installer command line:

"Deploy-Application.EXE" Install -DeployMode "Silent"

But it failsall the time.

I know that, if i run this script as local admin on a computer, it will install the Application the way i want it to, but since i'm running through SCCM 2012 i get an error exit code -3.
During mannuall installation With sccm2012(removing /s from command line), i get a dialogbox during installation that i need to click ok to continue, and i beleive that this dialogbox stops SCCM installing the Application...

Thats why i need the -verb runas command to work(or other solution), so the installation will runas administrator...

Package vs Application

Hello,

I have an SCCM package that copies a bunch of files to the workstation.  I have been running this as a package through SCCM and it has been functioning fine.

My boss has asked us to convert everything from packages to applications.  When I write this as an application, when the files to be copied are copied to the ccmcache folder on the workstation it changes the "date modified" on all the files to the current date and time.  So then when the files are copied from ccmcache to the proper location on the workstation they all have the current date and time rather than the date and time when the file was actually modified.

Summary:  Package -> ccmcache folder has proper date modified on all files

Application -> ccmcache folder has current date and time as the date modified on all files

Any way to keep this from happening?

Maintenance Window Issue

Hello,

Having a small issue with deploying an application. The application is deployed to a set of users and is available via the Application Catalog. The particular application requires .NET 4.0 which is set up as a requirement for the base application. When the user goes to install the application, .NET 4.0 is installed but requires a reboot. When the computer is rebooted manually, the base application appears in the Software Center but with a status of "Waiting for the next available maintenance schedule".

I do have a maintenance window configured for all computers in the environment, but it is really only used for Windows Updates. All other applications are either rolled out through the catalog or with the option to ignore maintenance windows. User deployments do not offer this as an option.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Application refresh

Hi Guys,

I've just deployed a hotfix to a bunch of pilot machines via applications. However, I've made a change to the user experience behaviour to "No specific action", so it doesn't reboot. Do I still need to update the content even though the actual source files haven't changed? Also, does changing the user experience behaviour automatically invoke a "Update content"?

Thanks in advance.

uninstallation via SCCM leaves behind "folder object"

Hi

I know this isn't specifically sccm related but it does happen via sccm.

I am upgrading some client software from an older version to the newest.

on a lot of machines I am seeing the following..

1. the application uninstalls the old software

2. somehow the process leaves behind the folder object.. by this I mean... the uninstaller actually removes the folder BUT somehow windows still thinks the folder is there.. all security settings etc. are wiped and there's no way to access the folder.. with ANY account.
This means the new msi installation fails because it cannot access/create the same folder to install..

3. after a reboot the folder object is gone and the installation works perfectly..

Has anyone seen this kind of behaviour?  and what can I do about it?

Kindest regards, Martin

Live meeting v806362.215 won't install with sccm 2012

I'm trying to install Live Meeting 2007 client v806362.215 under SCCM 2012 application model using the .MSI.  "I get a message that says the installer was interrupted before Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007 could be installed.  You need to restart the installer to try again." (see attached)

researching the message indicates that there was an issue with the elevated permissions (system account) that the install was trying to use.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all,

SCCM 2012

I need to deploy an application only to Windows 7 devices that have the service 'wlansvc'running.

When creating a Custom Requirement I have to create a new Global Condition (which can be a setting type or an expression type).

How do I create a Global Condition that verifies that the 'wlansvc' service is running.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Can you advise how i can run the package as the current logged on user with elevated rights in Task Sequence :)

Lync (Skype for Business Patch) - 3 Deployment Types

Hello guys.

I've created an application (a Lync patch) with 3 deployment types listed below by priority.

I have a mixed environment of Windows 32-Bit (with Office 32-Bit) and Windows 64-Bit (with Office 64-Bit OR Office 32-Bit)

1st - Lync 2013 64-Bit

Requirements:

  • OS - Windows 64-Bit
  • File - %Programw6432%\Microsoft Office\Office15\Lync.exe - Version IS NOT EQUAL 15.0.4685.2000

2nd - Lync 2013 32-Bit for Windows 32-Bit

Requirements:

  • OS - Windows 32-Bit
  • File - %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office15\Lync.exe - Version IS NOT EQUAL 15.0.4685.2000

3th - Lync 2013 32-Bit for Windows 64-Bit

Requirements:

  • OS - Windows 64-Bit
  • File - %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office15\Lync.exe - Version IS NOT EQUAL 15.0.4685.2000

The problem is, the machines that must use the 3th deployment type are using the 1st.

If a 64-Bit Windows have Office 32-Bit it must be on %Programfiles(x86)%

Why is it running the the 1st deployment if the file do not exist on %programw6432%?

Any ideas? Is it a SCCM 32/64-Bit redirection?

Application Deployment vs Task Sequence for MS Office 2013

$

Afternoon All,

I'm in the process of Deploying MS Office 2013 onto our fleet of machines using SCCM 2012

  1. Our current fleet has MS Office 2010 installed
  2. I have created a custom .MSP file for my MS Office 2013

I'm currently just deploying MS Office 2013 by just selecting device collections and it seems to work (besides removing sharepoint workspace 2010)

I have been trying to streamline the process to clean up MS Office 2010 - I have been told to create a custom task sequence and set it as below

1. Use Office 2010 Application package set as uninstall

2. Use Office 2013 Application package set to install

They say this makes for a more clean process as it's two individual tasks being completed.

Just want to see how others went from MS Office 2010 to MS Office 2013 using SCCM 2012

I am creating an application in SCCM 2012 which performs the uninstall of an application. Basically it uses a VBscript to uninstall the app, I am confused what to use in the detection rule since the vb script is basically deleting the folders. What is the suggested way of using detection rule in this case?

SCCM 2012: Office 2013 click to run deploy?

Hi,

We would like to run Office 2013 next to Office 2010. Therefore the click-to-run option (app-v is only possible for Office 2013 ProPlus) looks the way to go.

I found a nice guide a Office 2013 Plus “Click to run” Deploy in SCCM: http://www.peters.com/Blogs/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=90 However (posted it also on the site), can I use the /admin to generate the configuration.xml instead and use it within SCCM 2012 deploy?
