Changing Source Folder Without Redistribute

$

Hey Guys -

I'd expect this to be one of the top things asked, so apologize that I've been unable to locate the answer yet...

I know that when you change the source folder for a Package or Distribution Type in SCCM 2012, the entire source is re-distributed by default.  A while back, I am certain I found a method / script where you could change the path without having to redistribute.  Perhaps I was just dreaming. :)  I also remember something about Binary Replication being a key part.  Anyways, I have the below questions, please...

1. Does anyone currently know of a method / script where the source folder of a Pakage / Application Deployment Type may be changed without the content being required to redistribute to all DPs the package is currently distributed onto?

2. If no, would binary replication being enabled for a package cause it to run a comparison instead of a full re-sync (therefore faster overall)?

Thanks Guys!

Software Center show application stuck at Installing

$

Greetings,

This has happened a few times now over the last couple of weeks. At first I thought it was just a once-off bug, but it keeps coming back and I can't see any patterns to identify the cause or trigger.

Sometimes when I start a Deployment from the Software Center the Status gets stuck at "Installing" and never moves beyond that. It has happened for OSD task sequences as well as Package/programs. In both cases the same Deployment works on other machines, or has worked on this same machine previously. It's not always the same programs, and there seems to be no particular pattern I can find to cause it.

Restarting the SMS Agent doesn't resolve, it just comes up as "Installing" again after the agent has restarted. I've tried clearing the adverts from the client and no difference, restarting the computer also makes no difference... it just comes back as "Installing"

If I remove the computer from the deployment, it dissapears from the Software Center, and when I add the deployment back again it re-appears in Software Center as "Installing" again.

Doing a client repair (ccmrepair) doesn't fix it. Doing a client re-install (with always re-install) doesn't fix it either. I have to completely remove the existing client and reinstall to clear the problem, but that makes the client then appear as a completely new device in CM12 so that's not a very reasonable resolution.

The only log entry I can find that seems to indicate an error is in execmgr.log where an entry saying "OnContentAvailable invalid request GUID handle" appears several times. I have no idea what it means. Running the same deployment on another computer works fine.

Clients are all Windows7 SP1 32bit.

Hi ,

primarily,We uninstallled the SCCM 2012 Appliation Approval workfolw from both SCO and SCSM

While installing Microsoft.ApplicationApprovalWorkflow. in Service manager 2012 R2,

The setup fails with error

"Setup operation failed"

And what is the difference between the SCCM 2012 and R2 AAW ????

Cannot configure RBA to report on deployments to a higher-level collection that flows down to computers in lower collections

$

I have been trying to figure out the answer to this RBA question for months and I think the answer is just "you can't do it" but I thought I would ask all of you geniuses...

1)The following collections are setup (based on limiting collections):
All Systems>All Workstations>Office A
All Systems>All Workstations>Office B

2) Admins in Office A and B only have access to see computers in their own sites
3) A "global" TS is deployed to All Systems>All Workstations which means that all computers in offices A and B receive the TS.

Problem: Since the TS was deployed globally (to "All Workstations"), the admins in each office cannot report on the status of the deployment in the computers in their own office.

Notes: I can get them working by giving them read-only access to "All Workstations" but that means they see all offices and I would rather have them only see the computers in their own office. Any advice would be very much appreciated!

User deployed application shown as 'Available' in Software Center after reinstalling the OS

Hi all,

I've a question about this behavior: there are some applications deployed for users as available. While I've created these applications, I used a VM as test system and now I've reinstalled this VM (removed PXE-Flag and a required OSD did it's job).

After the OSD and all other required deployments were completed, the Software Center shows two available applications. All user deployed applications I installed on this VM for testing, are now available in Software Center as available (and of corse only if I login with the same user I've used for testing).

It seems that there is some kind of list, which holds information about those deployments. Is there any way to reset this?

TIA for any hint,

Rigger

Deploying Microsoft Azure Remote App

Hi - I am working on a project where I need to deploy The Microsoft Azure Remote App.  Although this app is a click once app and will install without admin rights, I am still being asked to manage the deployment.

I have tried

-Creating a Web App package:  The deployment succeeds from software center but nothing actually appears on my computer to launch

-Creating an App-V Package:  I can run through the sequencer OK and make sure I get all my files included. Again deployment succeed but nothing appears on the computer (yes I have the APP-V client).

I have some big hands leaning my shoulders to make this happen so I am asking you to please help me.

The application can be accessed here:

https://www.remoteapp.windowsazure.com/ClientDownload/Windows.aspx

If I do a manual install I can capture the files and move them from machine to machine OK.  I can also create a self extracting EXE which works manually but am not sure how to deploy this EXE in SCCM.

application used in a TS is installing itself

Hi guys,

if some Kind of strange behavior where I´am not 100% sure what is causing this... So here is the Situation: I´ve created an application "Nvidia Drivers" with 4 deployments types. Each DT uses a global condition as requirement to decide, based on the Video controller, which DT is used. The application is deployed as available AND I´ve also added the same application to a task sequence. This TS is still the one which was used to install these and most of all our clients. The TS is also deployed as available to these Clients (PXE and media only). After all that stuff we have seen some unexpected installations in the field, even after removing the deployment. So what is going on here? Is there some sort of "loopback" where the clients geht the application from the TS where they once installed from? I´ve found some blog and other forum posts

with similar issues, but always related do supersedence. I don´t have supersedence used here. Can anybody confirm or refute my speculation. I can provide log files shots in about ~8 hours since it is 11pm for me now, but you guys sure have some great ideas until I´am back in the Office ;)

Thank´s a lot...

SCCM - AppV - XenApp - Application Discovery failing

I'm in the process of evaluating deploying appV sequenced applications to Citrix XenApp using SCCM.

I've created a sequenced app, created an application in SCCM, created a deployment method for AppV deployment, successfully tested this deployment to an AppV client, however when I try and make it available to a XenApp server (with RDS AppV client installed) it fails to discover it.

Looking in the AppDisovery log:

Exit Code 1310 - PendingSoftReboot Timeout Countdown

$

I am using a task sequence to deploy a handful of applications in a specific order. The second application exits with code 1310 which tells the SCCM client to (soft) reboot because the application is configured to determine behavior based on return codes.

The reboot itself is not a problem, however the prompt is only visible for 30 seconds in spite of the fact that my client settings specify a much longer reboot timeout. I have also tried adding the variable to my collection, SMSTSRebootDelay, however that doesn't work either.  Is there any way to get this type of reboot prompt to last longer than 30 seconds?

I tried to deploy an application and saw in the report that i add 75 unkown computers

As i look at the computers i saw that the client was installed and showing as YES in my console?

If i go on the computer client i can see the client installed but in action i only have 2 choices...

Also if i go in components i see CCM NOTIFICATION AGENT as disabled the rest of the items are ok.

Can someone help with this issue

I also saw another issue with a few computers where in the console showing as NO but on the computer the client his installed same thing with CCM NOTIFICATION AGENT DISABLED and also the same 2 choices in action.

Past due - will be installed

Hi all,

we've been setting up app-deployment using SCCM 2012, and are going in to production in about a month. Now, we have a major problem.

None of the required apps are installing. They're simply stuck at "Past due - will be installed".

Indeed they are past due (all deployments are set to install as soon as possible), but absolutely nothing is happening (no it's not a matter of waiting, it's a dead halt). If we click 'install all required', everything installs perfectly. But obviously that's not an option.

The appenforce.log doesn't seem to be doing anything either; and it's not a problem with access to install source either; since all apps download fine, and THEN go into 'Past due...'.

I've also tried scheduling it to a time in the future, and then it just goes 'will be installed at (xx)' and once the deadline passes, it's 'past due' again.

So in summary; absolutely nothing is happening; and we've gone over the setup a million times, everything seems to be correct. We've also tried installing the agent on a clean (non-deployed) machine; virtual machines and with and without bitlocker. No difference.

We are seriously stuck. Help! :)

One of our DPs has stopped loading content.

I've research for quite a bit and cannot find a clear cut reason to this.  This server only has a DP role, I verified sharing permissions, all looked good. This DP has been running just fine for the last year or so and all sudden it will no longer load packages.  The disk drive is still present I can still reach the hidden share \\servername.com\E$

Remove individual Office suite features via SCCM

$

Hi,

I'm looking for some guidance on how to best remove select individual Office features across our enterprise (on a mutt mix of 2010 32bit (on x32 and x64 OS'), 2013 32bit (on x32 and x64 OS') and 2013x64.  I have been asked to remove InfoPath from all machines.  I have deduced through research thus far that I can A) Use a /modify with config.xml or B) msiexec /p <path to msp file>.  I did not have much luck learning how to create a config.xml file properly so I opted to use the MSP I created with OCT to remove the features and it has proven successful via a non suppressed Run line test of it on a system.

The problem I'm having now is with SCCM and deploying the application... option B above to systems.  I believe the isasue I'm encountering is the "Detection Method" being the product code for the targeted suite in question, may be seeing that... Oh Hey, you already have Office 2xxx so I'm not going to run this program!  Can someone enlighten me on a more simple approach?

The other caveat I'm having trouble wrapping my head around is that in general nobody should have MS Access either for sake of Enterprise DB solutions except for a small minority of departmental computers that must still use Access DB's.   Since obviously it is simply On or Off with a feature I'm wondering how I can deploy this to remove Access from the vast majority while keeping it for a select few.  I'd imagine I'd need to do some manual detective work to get some hostnames and then some Device Collection creation and segregation to deploy selectively to... the other thought is how I might be able to isolate these systems possibly with Software Metering to find out who has launched Access.exe in X amount of days.  Any help on the technical and suggestions on all else would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,  Ryan.

Update:  I found out how to query and form a collection based on Recently Used App info:

select SMS_R_System.ResourceId, SMS_R_System.ResourceType, SMS_R_System.Name, SMS_R_System.SMSUniqueIdentifier, SMS_R_System.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup, SMS_R_System.Client from  SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_CCM_RECENTLY_USED_APPS on SMS_G_System_CCM_RECENTLY_USED_APPS.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where DATEPART(MM, SMS_G_System_CCM_RECENTLY_USED_APPS.LastUsedTime) <= 12 and SMS_G_System_CCM_RECENTLY_USED_APPS.ExplorerFileName = "msaccess.exe"

So now I'm just hoping to get information on how to get the MSIEXEC /P .MSP file to actually deploy to systems that already have Office detected.

Find corresponding ccmcache location for given package

$

Hi all,

I feel like I'm missing something obvious here, but I've been trying to find out where this information is stored.  Say I have package "PE123456" - is there an easy way to locate where this is stored within the ccmcache directory?

I've come across some logs that occasionally, but not always, store this information (I believe cas.log lists it, but not consistently - I'm not sure of when it does/doesn't). I've been playing with the Roger Zander's smsclictr.automation.dll within Powershell to try to retrieve this information, but have had no luck so far (although I have managed to query and retrieve all the machine's advertisements, it does not return the path to the package themselves).

Assume I do not have access to the configmgr console for this task.

Thanks
