Troubleshooting technique for applications

$

0

Today I had an application that I created and assigned to a collection but did not show up on the client. Nothing in Software Center although I ran Machine Policy.

I then tried to follow the trail to see where things might have gone wrong.

  1. Was the PolicyAgent on the client successful in running
  2. Does LocationServices look ok

After that it is difficult to trace the issue so I thought I would ask you guys what are some of your troubleshooting steps for applications, especially when the application doesn't show up on the device (Nothing in AppEnforce, AppIntent, AppDiscover)

Application Goes To Already Compliant Instantly

Hello,

I am working with the Office Scrub script for Office 2010 and attempting to get it to remove Office from ~4500 desktops.  I built the app and set it to run the .cmd.  For the Detection Method I have it checking in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office to see if the Office14 folder exists.  I've verified on several test systems that this path and folder name are correct.  As soon as I deploy to my test collection, all 12 systems show up as "Already Compliant" - this happens almost instantly.  When I look at the SCCM logs on the desktops, they haven't even seen the application yet so I don't know how they can be compliant.  I'm not sure what I'm overlooking.  Any thoughts?

TIA

Client machines waiting for content

Hi - I have deployed a couple of applications that never seem to deploy to clients

This does not happen with every application so I don't think its a problem with connectivity / communications anywhere.

My clients are pointing to the correct management points and site.

  1. Application content has been successfully distributed to my distribution points
  2. My Distribution Settings tab on the package is set to "Distribute the content for this package to refereed DP's" and to "Automatically download content when packages are assigned to DP's"
  3. My Content Locations tab on the package has the correct distribution point
  4. Distribution types content tab has the correct content location and deployment options is set to "Download content from DP's and run locally"
  5. Distribution types Programs tab has the correct installation / uninstall parameters
  6. Distribution types Detection Method is set
  7. Distribution types user experience set to install for system and installation probably hidden. I have tried with different logon requirements and still get no where
  8. Deployments Properties content shows the right DP
  9. Deployment Properties Deployment Settings action Install and Purpose Required. Also checked is allow clients on a metered internet connection
  10. Deployment  scheduling based on client local time
  11. Deployments User Experience set to display in software center and show all notifications
  12. Commit changes at deadline or during maintenance window is set
  13. Alerts is set to create a deployment alert when the threshold is higher than 0

Content is distributed and deployed to a valid machine collection with valid machines pointing to the right site

Monitoring > Deployments  shows waiting for content

I can manually install the apps OK.

Items remain in Application Catalog, even after its no longer deployed to user.

Hi.

So we noticed that if we remove a user from a deployment, they still see it in the Application Catalog, even after its been uninstalled and user policy evaluation has run, etc.

I did a test.

1: Deploy Available application to a user.

2: It appears in Application Catalog. Install it.

3: Remove deployment for user.

Item still remains in the users Application Catalog.

If I do a properties on the user in the SCCM console, I can see that the deployment is gone.

I've run a Request and Evaluate User policy.

I've waited a week ..

I've uninstalled the application manually.

The application is still available in Application Catalog for the user.

Any ideas why it does not go away?

Mattias

Create a software collection using installed application history attribute

Hello,

I'm trying to use device collection query to get a list of computers that have a specific software (Application A) not installed on Apr 16. So i would create a criteria with:

Installed application (x64) history > Display Name. Set string to "Application A"
Installed application (x64) history > Installed Date. Set Installed Date to "is no equal to" 20150416.

When i query the collection it should list all systems with all version of application A not installed on Apr 16. However, it ends up showing only Application A installed on Apr 16.

Deleted Deployments are still visible in Softwarecenter

Hello!

Whenever i delete a Deployment from a collection, it doesn't get deleted out of the clients Softwarecenter. The Application is still visible on the client and if I click the button to install it, I get an error telling me that the Softwarecenter can't update the needed Information.

i've already tried to reinstall the Client. This removes all old (deleted) deployments from the softwarecenter, but as soon as i deploy an aplication and then delete the deployment I get the same Error again.

Has anyone experienced something like this before?

Thanks in advance!

Disable branchcache with SCCM

Hi All,

I have noticed that on all out clients the branch cache takes up the same amount of space as the SCCM client cache. But to clean this out we have to go via disk cleanup. Is there a simple way to disable this so that we are not doubling up on the space requirement in our application distribution?

Thanks,

Richard

Software Metering for MS Project (Any Version) - SCCM 2012

Hello -

We are running SCCM 2012 R2 and I have a software metering rule setup for MS Project, any version, that doesn't seem to be working. It's setup as follows:

File name:  PROJECT.EXE

Original file name:  PROJECT.EXE

Version:  *

Language:  -Any-

I have a similar rule setup for MS Visio which seems to be working so I thought setting up MS Project would be the same but Iit's not working. Any insight/advice on how to get this working would be helpful.

Thank you!

Deploying Multiple Applications to a User Collection - System Centre 2012 R2 Configuration Manager

Hello all,

Hoping someone can help,

We have an application library with about 150 different application packages.  At the moment we are just using AD groups to control which applications are available to which computers (in the Software Centre).  Now we want to start using the web interface Application Catalogue.

My question is, is there an easy way to deploy these 150 applications to User Collections (to control viability) without having to go to each one and follow through the deploy wizard, that will just take forever?

For example.  I have a user collection called CAD_USERS and I want to deploy all the AutoDesk application to that User Collection (we have about 30 different AutoDesk Application packages).  Is there a PowerShell script or something I can run, instead of having to go to each AutoDesk Application package > Deploy > Find the User Collection > wait for it to find all the DP Servers > etc > ect?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Chris

Hi,

I have found two packages which generate problem with validation content. These two packages are visible as correctly distributed on Distribution Point but when I have checked it deeper I have found it is registered in WMI but is missing in PkgLib folder.

I have tried redistribute these two packages. I have tried remove and "clean WMI" and distribute packages again. But it is still registering only in WMI.

Could I ask you what can be reason of this issue and how to fix it?

SCCM 2012 - Multiple Dependent Applications no Detection of upgrade after a successfull install.

$

I am finding a detection problem when trying to run an Upgrade of Adobe Reader mui 10.0.11 of an previous version 10.0.6 that contains a dependence on the base install.  Even though the detection method works if there is no previous versions installed.  it does not work if it tries to update the 11.0.6 or the Base install of 11.0.0.  I should mention that the upgrade also has a dependence of the the 11.0.0 base in case a user does not have the current base version.

The main question is does SCCM 2012 handle multiple dependent applications or is it limited to one?

Is there another way to run continuous step upgrades of products and have at the end a dependency of the core/Base install?

Please get back when you can.

Hi,

i have been trying to deploy office 365 Pro Plus through sccm 2012.

but after sometime received the message from software center as as installation failed. The software change returned error code 0x87D00324(-2016410844).I have checked the application on client machine,i could find the installation is successful, all components for office 365 has been installed. All working fine also. But the deployment status shows error as i mentioned earlier.

first my detection rule was file type,at that time also i could install office 365 ,but received same error message.

then i changed detection method to registry,HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\O365ProPlusRetail - en-us.

but the condition is same.same error in status and all the components for office 365 got installed.

Deployment PowerShell 3.0 as package

$

I need to deploy PowerShell 3.0 using sccm 2012 r2 on all Windows 7 SP1 computers in a company. I use below program:

wusa PowerShell3.msu /passive /quiet /norestart

Deployment properties is set to: do not allow for software installation and restart outside maintenance window

To have fully operational PowerShell 3.0 it need computer restart after installation. Most of our users do not log off or restart computers the whole weeks - they just lock them. It is possible that they have some documents, etc. opened and do not saved so we cannot just restart computers at night. There is no maintenance windows set up for any of our collections in SCCM. All SCCM clients have business hours setup as default from 5:00 to 22:00

I tested this deployment on some course room computers and it looks like all of them were restarted at 5:00 AM next day after scheduled deployment. I think it can be connected with GPO for Windows updates, as PowerShell 3.0 is in fact Windows Update. In GPO there is a setting

The question is what is the best practice when deploying software which needs computer restart and how to investigate which setting caused the computers reboot at 5:00 AM

Reporting All Applications

Hallo All

I need some  assistance with creating a report to display a summary of applications that was installed over a certain time period - the user must be able to choose for instance the last 7 days

I had a look at the reports in SCCM 2012 under "Software Distribution - Application Monitoring" and at this point it is not quite what I would like to do

also what I see in some of the reports where I actually know that the installation was successful I see on the systems that it is displaying "No Start Data"

1 application that covers all deployment types?

$

Hi,

Currently we are using two types of applications and make also two applications for that.
F.e.

7-Zip-AppV and 7-Zip-Application.

*7-Zip-AppV contains 2 deployment types: 1 for AppV on Windows 7 (prereq W7), one for Windows Server (prereq os WKX).
We deploy this to a machine collection as well as a computer collection which both have a query to an ad group (AD GROUP "7-Zip-AppV" which has computer as well as user groups in it).

*7-Zip-Application contains also 2 deployment types: again 1 for Windows 7 and one for Windows Server
We deploy it again to 2 collection which are based upon AD group "7-Zip-Application", which has user as well as computer groups).

---

=> My question: what about having 1 application "7-Zip", have 4 deployment types: 2 for App-V, 2 for applications and possibly more in the future (Windows 10 etc)?
Think this is the most flexible way to use applications but wonder if there would be a scenario in which this could cause issues (dependency, supersedence). Better to figure that out now, so I'd appreciate your input on that. Do you use this setup (1 application with different deployment types)? Why or why not?

SCCM 2012 R2 App-V uninstall: 1 uninstall collection?

$
0
0

Hi,

In this post http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrdogs/archive/2014/11/03/managing-app-v-deployments-in-configmgr-2012.aspx I read that you'd have to make two collections for each App-V package: 1 for install, 1 for uninstall.
I'd think that 1 install collection for each App-V package and 1 uninstall collection which contains all App-V package groups should suffice, correct?

This is why: "install takes precedence", so then I'd would be much easier to deploy an install App-V-7-Zip to f.e. user/computer-collections "App-V-7-Zip", "App-V-Notepad" etc (which have membership based upon AD groups "App-V7-7-Zip" and "App-V-Notepad") and an uninstall to the general collection App-V-Uninstall.

The collection "App-V-Uninstall" would then contain as well all AD groups "App-V7-7-Zip" and "App-V-Notepad" (usergroups and computergroups(objects)). Since uninstall takes precedence, this should work, right?

Please advise.

Can't delete or retire application because of a (Non-existent) dependent Task sequence

Hello.

I am trying to delete an outdated application from my SCCM environment.

However when i try to delete I get the warning that the application cannot be deleted because of 1 dependent task sequence.

I have been through every single task sequence and there is no reference to the application in any of them.

The application also no existing deployment types and and no deployments.

If I look in revision history for the app, it shows Revision 23 but I do not have the option to delete it.

How can I permanently delete this application from SCCM?

In the smsdpprov.log i see error (CContentDefinition::Finalize failed; 0x80041002).  When i run the a query (Get-WmiObject -Namspace root\sccmdp -list) i dont see SMS_Packagesincontlib in the list. where in i can see this on other working DP's.

Can this re-created or do it need to re-install the Dp to fix this ?

Any help would be apprecaited..

Collection query for AD group which has group member

$

Hi,

I 'm trying to make this query work to get the contents of and AD group visible in an SCCM collection.
For a user collection this works (the group APPV-UNINSTALL pops up in the usercolelction):

select SMS_R_USERGROUP.ResourceID,SMS_R_USERGROUP.ResourceType,SMS_R_USERGROUP.Name,SMS_R_USERGROUP.UniqueUsergroupName,SMS_R_USERGROUP.WindowsNTDomain from SMS_R_UserGroup where SMS_R_UserGroup.UsergroupName = "APPV-UNINSTALL"

For a system collection, I'd like to query the same group but the query doesn't work, just replaced user by system (error in query):

select SMS_R_systemGROUP.ResourceID,SMS_R_systemGROUP.ResourceType,SMS_R_systemGROUP.Name,SMS_R_systemGROUP.UniquesystemgroupName,SMS_R_systemGROUP.WindowsNTDomain from SMS_R_systemGroup where SMS_R_systemGroup.systemgroupName = "APPV-UNINSTALL"

Please advise.
