SCCM 2012: failed to connect to distribution point

$

Hi folks,

I have an intermittent issue and can't figure out the reason so far.

I have a primary server and multiple distribution points. The primary does not have a DP configured. When I deploy a new distribution point, I have the following messages:

Distribution Manager failed to connect to the distribution point. Check your network and firewall settings.

and

Distribution Manager failed to find or create the defined share or volume on distribution point.

DistMgr.log shows the following:

CWmi::Connect() failed to connect to \\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\root\CIMv2. Error = 0x800706BA

STATMSG: ID=2391 SEV=E LEV=M SOURCE="SMS Server" COMP="SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER" SYS=BBD-SCCM-E.domain.name SITE=IDC PID=2120 TID=3376 GMTDATE=do jun 28 07:24:17.463 2012 ISTR0="["Display=\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=IDC"]\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\" ISTR1="" ISTR2="" ISTR3="" ISTR4="" ISTR5="" ISTR6="" ISTR7="" ISTR8="" ISTR9="" NUMATTRS=1 AID0=404 AVAL0="["Display=\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=IDC"]\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"

ERROR DPConnection::ConnectWMI() - Failed to connect to  AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name. error = 0x800706ba

Failed to find a valid drive on the distribution point ["Display=\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=IDC"]\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\

Cannot find or create the package share.

Error occurred. Performing error cleanup prior to returning.

However, after a while (couple of hours), it looks like everything is distributed on the DP. But this message keeps on coming back during the course of the day and every time a new DP is deployed.

I checked permissions, IIS, WMI, but I can't find out the cause of this behavior. I have events about WMI (id 5605) but I can connect to the WMI workspace (root\MicrosoftIISv2) with no issues.

Can anyone shed some light on this please? It would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Safdar.

Deleted Deployments are still visible in Softwarecenter

Hello!

Whenever i delete a Deployment from a collection, it doesn't get deleted out of the clients Softwarecenter. The Application is still visible on the client and if I click the button to install it, I get an error telling me that the Softwarecenter can't update the needed Information.

i've already tried to reinstall the Client. This removes all old (deleted) deployments from the softwarecenter, but as soon as i deploy an aplication and then delete the deployment I get the same Error again.

Has anyone experienced something like this before?

Thanks in advance!

Uninstall a Deployed application.

Hello,

I have currently deployed few msi applications using 'Application deployment' and would like to uninstall some of these currently deployed applications. Do i need to create a new 'Uninstall Application' and then choose the option 'Uninstall' during deployment or is their a way to use current deployment to uninstall an application... I am unable to find 'Uninstall tab' anywhere on current deployment. Please advise.  OR what could be the best way if in the future if i have to uninstall some of the applications from systems.

P.S... All of our applications are MSi and they do come with 'Push' and 'Pull' commands.

Do I need to Update Content when changing a setting in a Deployment Type?

If I change the "Maximum allowed run time" in a deployment type for an application, do I need to run "Update Content" on the deployment type afterwards?

Thanks!

Packages reporting as successful when they didn't actually install

I have been having some difficulty lately in getting accurate monitoring results from SCCM 2012 package deployments containing a batch file. The batch file fails for various reasons, mostly being that there is another program waiting for installation. So, what ends up happening is that the install portion of the batch file just blows through and the rest of the commands follow. SCCM reports the installation was successful.

Am I doing something wrong in the batch file or package settings? Here is the text of the batch:

SCCM does not make app available to user

I am trying to get some applications available for users in SCCM 2012 but they are not showing up.  The app is very simple and just calls an executable that lives on the client workstation so there is no content to upload to the distribution point.  The only requirement is that the operating system is either Windows 7 or Windows 8 and the executable file being run does exist.  In all cases the test machines have the file at the specified location and the boxes are all Windows 7 (64)  running the command string either at a command prompt or from the run box succeeds.  The app is set to install and be available to the user.  Since the application does not get uploaded to the DP I can not see anything that would stop the application from showing up and being available in software center.  Is there anything special about applications that do not require content be uploaded to the dp?  What would cause this simple application to not be available to a user collection?

Thank you.

Software Center thinks Application is already installed

I used the Software Center to install an application (SolidWorks 2014) but the system crashed while it was installing due to a lack of room on the hard drive.  I cleared all remnants of this program but when I tried to install it again the Software Center will not do it because it says the application is already installed.  The application is clearly not installed if you look at the program manager.  What do I do?

Driver Package Availability Issue

Hello,

We've created Server Driver Package (Dell Power Edge) using SCCM2012 from a console available at Unique server location (Not the usual one)

Now after creating this, we replicated it to all our DP's, It got replicated as well, but looking at the size column under the content status, it showing size as Zero MB.

But checking at source location, this driver package has size = 42.9MB

Now why it behaves like this i am not sure. This is something i am doing first time, and all our Server installation has stopped right now. Is this because of any permission I am not having on a console available at Unique server location or something else?

Remove individual Office suite features via SCCM

$

Hi,

I'm looking for some guidance on how to best remove select individual Office features across our enterprise (on a mutt mix of 2010 32bit (on x32 and x64 OS'), 2013 32bit (on x32 and x64 OS') and 2013x64.  I have been asked to remove InfoPath from all machines.  I have deduced through research thus far that I can A) Use a /modify with config.xml or B) msiexec /p <path to msp file>.  I did not have much luck learning how to create a config.xml file properly so I opted to use the MSP I created with OCT to remove the features and it has proven successful via a non suppressed Run line test of it on a system.

The problem I'm having now is with SCCM and deploying the application... option B above to systems.  I believe the isasue I'm encountering is the "Detection Method" being the product code for the targeted suite in question, may be seeing that... Oh Hey, you already have Office 2xxx so I'm not going to run this program!  Can someone enlighten me on a more simple approach?

The other caveat I'm having trouble wrapping my head around is that in general nobody should have MS Access either for sake of Enterprise DB solutions except for a small minority of departmental computers that must still use Access DB's.   Since obviously it is simply On or Off with a feature I'm wondering how I can deploy this to remove Access from the vast majority while keeping it for a select few.  I'd imagine I'd need to do some manual detective work to get some hostnames and then some Device Collection creation and segregation to deploy selectively to... the other thought is how I might be able to isolate these systems possibly with Software Metering to find out who has launched Access.exe in X amount of days.  Any help on the technical and suggestions on all else would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,  Ryan.

Update:  I found out how to query and form a collection based on Recently Used App info:

select SMS_R_System.ResourceId, SMS_R_System.ResourceType, SMS_R_System.Name, SMS_R_System.SMSUniqueIdentifier, SMS_R_System.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup, SMS_R_System.Client from  SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_CCM_RECENTLY_USED_APPS on SMS_G_System_CCM_RECENTLY_USED_APPS.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where DATEPART(MM, SMS_G_System_CCM_RECENTLY_USED_APPS.LastUsedTime) <= 12 and SMS_G_System_CCM_RECENTLY_USED_APPS.ExplorerFileName = "msaccess.exe"

So now I'm just hoping to get information on how to get the MSIEXEC /P .MSP file to actually deploy to systems that already have Office detected.

application supersedence question

Hello, I have a question about application supersedence in SCCM 2012 R2.

I have an application that has already been deployed in my environment.
It's an upgrade, but does not uninstall the previous version first - resulting in 2 versions of the same application on the
desktop.

What I want to do is:

- stop the existing application deployment( it's pretty much reached everyone now)

- mod the application and create a supersedence to uninstall the previous version application

- redeploy that same application with the new supersedence rule

Would SCCM re-evaluate all the clients and run the uninstaller, even if they already have the new version installed?

Hopefully i'm making sense here... I want to go back to each computer in the deployment and supercede the previous version of the application, even if the newer version was installed. is that possible, or will SCCM just skip it since the newer version is already installed?

Thanks for any help on this

Deployment types questions for logged off or on users

$

I am deploying an application, with 2 deployment types, one deployment if a user is logged on, one if the user is logged off.  Can I use the built in function of User Experience tab's Logon Requirement and this work reliably, or do I need to create a global condition?  For the most part they are the same, only difference, I have program that runs if the user is logged on, to check to see if the program that I am upgrading is open, if so prompt and close the app, otherwise start the upgrade.  So if they are logged in I need to allow the user to interact with the pop up.

Any oddities\concerns I need to be aware of, in case a user logs in or logs off during the installation process, by using this method?

Thanks

I am having trouble deploying software because cache is full.

SCCM suppose to cleanup cache as needed but it is not doing it. I found  the cause during troublehsooting. We have one app-v packaged deployed. if that packaged is not opened\stream once cache cleanup routine gets stuck and dont do clean up at all.

any idea how to solve this.

Deploy Service Pack for Office 2010 SP2 using SCCM 2012 Application Deployment method

$

I have the package ready with me I tested it and it works successfully when I setup a detection rule to detect the application by display version GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO14.0.7015.1000 it works and installs when Office 2010 is installed but it also attempts to install when Office 2013 is installed and I want to avoid the latter scenario.

Setting it up with detection rule of Display Version BETWEEN (14.0.7015.1000,15.0) SCCM application fails.

Any clue how to deal with it and avoid installing it on machines having Office2013?

Tracking Office 365 Usage with ConfigMgr 2012 R2

Hi,

Hi,

I want to ask if anyone has used ConfigMgr 2012 R2 to track Office 365 usage (for Licensing verification),

I could not find any records in v_GS_CCM_RECENTLY_USED_APPS for 0365 usage, and wondering if I should be looking somewhere else, or might need to make some MOF modifications.

Office 365 is locally installed on the Laptop of each users, and shows asMicrosoft Office 365 ProPlus - en-us in their Add/Remove Programs

TIA,

John

OS of Server: Windows Server 2008R2
SCCM:         SCCM 2012 R2 without any CU
I recently added a new model in our TS and when deploying this model the office 2010 x32bit installation
always fails with error message:

Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install

This problem occurs only when I install this specific new device model HP Elitebook 820 G2

I added a restart step before and after the Office 2010 package.

Any ideas?

I have been asked to use SCCM 2012 R2 to deploy Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2013 to all our workstation in the organization. Since this is only and exe file. I was hoping someone could provide the way to set this up.

I have look on the net and found a few solutions on how to do this but it keep getting fail errors when I try to deploy this to a test system.

Here is the error I receive: The software change returned error code 0x87D00607(-2016410105).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You
