global condition to detect if application was started during a task sequence

$

hello, Is there a way to use a global condition in the application model to detect if the application was started during a task sequence?

I'm trying not to run the 32 bits version of a program that doesn't work in a TS , but work fine if started from the software center.

thanks

Creating a user logged on or off Global Condition

Does anyone have some ideas on how to go about creating a Global Condition for whether a user is logged in or not?  Not a particular user, but ANY user.

I'm creating a single Application with two Deployment Types. Deployment Type 1 would be an unattended install and only run if the user is logged off.  Deployment Type 2 would be an attended install and only run if a user is logged on and be set to display a progress bar.  I am going to use the Requirements tab of each deployment type to determine if a user is logged on or off.

In SCCM 2007 this was easy with Packages, I could set it to run no matter if the user was logged on or off and just tick the box to allow user interaction.  Since I always use /passive for MSI, it was effective because it would run fine no matter if the user was logged on or off.  As I'm sure everyone knows, the "allow user interaction" box is now grayed out when choose to run "whether or not a user is logged in"

I wish Microsoft would change it back to the old way.

App-V app delivery on VDI slow, and in batches

Hi,

We have had serious issues with deploying app-v applications to our VDI machines. Most of these have been solved by updating to the recent SP2 for SCCM (R2 SP1) and App-V 5 SP3, and some other minor tweaks. However it still takes to much time for all applications to be available.

Our environment consists of:

  • SCCM 2012 R2 SP1
  • Horizon View 5.3
  • Windows 7 x64 VDI clients
  • App-V 5.0 SP3

When a user logs on to a vdi, it takes about 1-1,5 minute after the desktop is available before SCCM starts deploying user/group assigned applications. This is about a minute too long, but usable. However, usually only 1 or 2 applications are listed in Software Center and get installed.

To get the rest of the applications, the user either has to wait between 10 to 60 minutes before SCCM continues with the other applications, or the user has to trigger the application deployment action via the configmgr control panel resulting in installation of the remaining apps within minutes.

I have been looking at the log files but I just cannot see why it waits so long. Using policyspy from the configmgr toolkit, I can see that all the advertisements are listed under the requested tab. So the client should know there are more apps available.

What I do see, is that SCCM does not see the VDI clients as a floating nonpersistent VDI: Machine Changes Persisted = Yes. Not sure if that has any influence on deployment speed.

Any ideas? Where to look, what to set?

Thx,

Michel

PS. One of the highlights of SP2 was faster app-v application deployment, but I have no idea what to expect.

How to install Metro applications?

Greetings!

We want to install some Metro-applications via SCCM 2012 R2.

Applications are published in Windows Store. They aren't self-developed applications.

I see are two ways how to do it with SCCM 2012R2:

1. Use "Windows app package (in the Windows Store)" type. User should click on the Install button from the Application Catalog, and he will be redirected to the Windows Store. Then he shoud continue install with Windows Store.
Yes: Simple configuration with SCCM 2012R2.
No:
a) It is necessary to provide access to the Windows apps store (it is frobidden by GPO now), and make sure that users did not install any crap. Maybe we should use AppLocker to block anything except approved apps;
b) Required user liveID to install any application from the store. A lot of our users didn't have it, of course. Anyway they are wouldn't do it.

2. Use "Windows app package (*.appx,*.appxbundle)" type.
Yes: Click it and forget it. Very easy install for users experience.
No:
Difficulties with the implementation, because of:
a) Should riping *.appx file from the store (rather easy, but still bored);
b) Find and add all packages and dependencies that an application has - for example C ++ components;
c) Solve the problem with the "sideloading key" for application activation.

We decided to go the second way, but failed with the last paragraph.
We found that when we install applications from the store, Store install a special key for current application (Sideloading key), and then activate an app. If we try to install appx, without sideloading key activation, the application does not start.

When I try to start an app, I see in EventLog Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational a Error:

Activation of the app [App] for the Windows.Launch contract was blocked with error 0x80073CFC because its package is in state: Error from application of unknown origin.

So, the question is: What is the best way to install already published Metro Applications in domain enviroment without Windows Store access? And how to solve the activation problem?

Good morning/afternoon!

I am trying to find a way or build a query to run so that I can find a way SAP was last used on PC's in our organization. Software Metering has been turned on and has been for almost a week. I'd like to create something now to see if i'm getting results. I have tried a few things to no avail.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

How do i do this.

If i setup the application thru the wizard with an MSI file, and then try to edit the Installation command program to a batch file, it doesn't let me to Distribute the content, am i allow to do that?

If i try to setup the application Using a script instead of and MSI file, in the detection method i cannot use the the product code like when you use the msi file, so i kinda do not know what to do here.

Distribute content again for an Application

If i have an Application already setup, that runs from a Script, and if i modify the script (a batch file) later , Do i have to distribute contect again?  If i try that i cannot distribute it to the places where the app its already distributed (they do not appear in the list), Do i have to delete de app and setup a new again and distribute it again?

Error Code 0x87D00325 on Office 365 Deyployment

I'm running a Office 365 deployment using the application model to uninstall office 2013 and install office 365. It works without issue.

However, when the client has Visio installed on it it fails out after office 2013 is uninstalled and the beginning of the install for Office 365. If I run the office 365 manually it installs just fine with Visio installed. Software Center shows" The software change returned error code 0x87D00325.

In the appEnfoce log shows the following:

PowerShell Script to run once on every NEW PC

I need to have a script to run just once when PC is being prepared (Primary DNS change) ((If interested ->  (http://justin-bennett-msjc.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/use-powershell-to-change-hosts-fqdn.html ))

I was hoping there is a way to Run this script after PC have been built.

After reading about this SCCM seems like the best way of doing this because if I put the script in toGPO it would Run every time on logon, and would need an IF statement (if its already done then Quit).

How do I get SCCM to run this script on the PCs ?

Ideally first I want to run it on a limited collection, if it all goes well then in all PCs.

What do you recommend to check?

I think it's not a problem of:

- antivirus because enabled or disabled antivirus make no change still the hash verification error till ccm cache is cleared

- update nor refresh of application on DP doesnot help because without doing update or refresh and just by deleting ccmcache it start working

hmmm....where to search for what is wrong?

Applications take hours to appear in the App Catalog

$

I am seeing an issue at particular client where new deployed Applications (as available and to a User collection) takes several hours before they appear in the Application Catalog for the user(s).

I am not specifying an available time so it should be immediate.  I have used the app catalog extensively and the apps have always appeared within a minute or two (in other environments).  I have tried going into the deployment and setting the available time back a day or two just to see but still nothing.  Triggering Policy retrievals does not help either.

Infrastructure is SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 (although I believe this behavior happened prior to the SP1 upgrade).  Single primary that hosts the app catalog, SQL is remote.

Has anyone seen this behavior before?

My boss want me to also copy the msi file over the computer for future helpdesk support, so if this is the right way to place the syntaxis ver the batch file? Basically im not sure over the copy command if i have to place it like of where is pulling the files.

Interesting scenario here. We are seeing more applications, that when packaged via WISE, will install successfully when deployed as available, but when deployed as required, they will fail.

The same application (not package) that has only one deployment type, and only one deployment set up and required will have different experiences. Typically the required deployment will fail, and then if a user clicks on install from Software Center, it will then work.

Does anyone understand what AppEnforce.log means when it states user content versus system context? The users do NOT have admin rights, so SCCM clearly is elevating access, and the process IS running under the system account in task manager.

Very confused on this...

App-V shows "invalid namespace" in deployment monitoring for users on particular server

Hi,

I have this App-V package that works fine BUT on one Windows 2008 R2 (with App-V 4.6 SP3 and App-V 5.0 SP3) server: it seems to work fine for some users, NOT for others: they just don’t see the package in their start menu.
The App-V package also works fine on other servers.

What I contstantly get in deployment monitoring (SCCM) is “invalid namespace”.  I could just give it a reboot, but that would mean all users would have to logoff and then I’d really would need to know that the reboot would help.

Found this

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/eeb8fcde-0df0-49bf-a27e-1569f539d2f8/evaluation-failed-0x8004100e-invalid-namespace?forum=configmanagerapps

but not sure it would help me since it is related to App-V 4.6 SP2.

Would like to know what actually is going on. Please advise.

J.

Application deployment: terminal server (Windows server) user should not get application when logged on to Windows 7

Hi,

We have the following setup:

Application 1, which contains:

*deployment type 1, prereq Windows server

*deployment type 2, prereq Windows 7

This Application 1 we deploy to a user collection as well as a computer collection which both have query an AD group named “ADGroup Application 1”

Problem now is that NOT ALL users which logon to Windows (terminal) server can have the App-V package.

Is there a way to limit the user collection to contain only users that logon to Windows server?

I’m trying to avoid needing to reconfigure my applications (creating “Application 1 – for Users”, “Application 2 – for Computers” then deploying each application to a different collection.

Please advise.

J.

Configuration Manager 2012 R2

Many of our users are working in very small offices around the world or working from home in locations with poor internet connectivity. We are in the process of upgrading to Office 2013 but the installation files are around 1GB and for many users working in remote locations this will take a long time to download.

Is there a way I can pre-deploy the installation files to the user’s ccmcache folder over a number of weeks and they get the user to install Office 2013 from the application catalog but instead of first download the installations files from the distribution point it will get them from the cache folder and as a result greatly improving the installation time.

Thanks

Tim

Detection Method for Windows Installer Patch

I am trying to use the application model to install a Windows Installer patch (MSP) for some software. Understanding that each vendor is different in how they handle patching, what are some ways I can construct the detection method? I've tried checking the registry for the existence of a key that is created by the MSP, but it still fails the detection method.  My searches for examples have failed as well :)

Has anyone done this before?

Thanks,

Jeff

Which version of System Center Configuration 2012 SP1 manager to download

Hello, I am looking to download System Center 2012 R2 Datacenter. I want to verify this version contains the ability to download/configure/push out 3 party applications such as Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Java, Winzip, and others.

Basically the long term plan is to download SCCM 2012 for WSUS updating, the add 3'rd party updating, and eventually add in SCOM. I wanted to verify System Center 2012 R2 Datacenter contains all these components.

Thank you
