SCCM deploys software but still shows as 'In Progress'

$

I have managed to use SCCM 2012 to deploy 2 instances of MS Project Pro 2013. On both machines the software is installed and working fine. However in SCCM CM the deployments show as being 'In Progress' and 'Content Downloaded'.

It has been several days since the deployment and still SCCM is not updating the status.

All and any thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated.

Force failed packages to retry (distribution to DP)

$

Found this for SCCM 2007:

http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2012/02/01/forcing-a-refresh-on-failed-packages-with-powershell-2/

Looking for advice on how this could be used with SCCM 2012. It appears the same WMI classes exist with the same properties, and one would expect this script to work on SCCM 2012, but it doesn't appear to work.

Background: even with a small number of DPs, we have the occasional package that completely fails to distribute. The only way to resolve this is to run a report, drill into every DP in the SCCM console and find the package that failed and click 'Redistribute'. This is a considerable amount of manual work that is begging to be automated (how in the world is it not built into SCCM, "retry all failed packages" on one or more DPs?)

I also have one DP that was offline for several hours one day and now has 100+ failed packages - it would take hours to track down all the failed packages and click redistribute.

Surely someone has figured this out - please share! :)

Also, if anyone from Microsoft is seeing this - this is begging to be a cmdlet in a future update for SCCM.

Task Sequence success BUT fails

Guys,

Pushed out a task sequence to uninstall a piece of software, it then reboots (default OS) and then reinstalls the software.

The TS uninstalls the software, it then reboots but doesnt install the software back again.

Below is the SMSTS.LOG.  SCCM says the TS manager successfully completed execution of the TS

Any help I would really appreciate.  Thanks !

Deploy an updated driver best practice

Issue: Error "COM Surrogate has stopped working". when viewing images in Windows Picture Viewer

Cause: - Bug in driver release.

Resolution: - (after researching on Google) Update video driver to latest version.

I have identified the driver version (latest version from manufacturer website), now I need to decide on a deployment strategy.

For the OSD, I know to import the new driver into the current driver package. This will resolve the issue for new OSD's.

For current machines, I will need to deploy using an application/program. I have read articles regarding the use of DPInst in WDK, not sure if this applies?

I know how to create the deployment for the new driver application/program, just wondering its the best way!?!

Thanks guys! All suggests welcome!

Force Software Update Task Sequence(Java) during Maintenance Window

$

I need to update every second month the java engine.
For this, I created a Task Sequence which removes all previous versions which may be installed and then installs the actual one. The TS requires 3 reboots in total and has been set for a max. runtime of 45minutes.
I created a two hour maintenance window every monday at 10pm-12pm.

Now I would like to try on two monday maintenance windows to install the update and after this to force unavailable clients to update it even during the day.

So means at first monday I reach about 70% of the clients. On second monday next 20%. The last 10% should receive the update mandatory even during the day when connected.

a) how to set the deployment details ?
I had problems when only setting the start date as the ts just did run next time when connected and failed because reboot is not allowed outside maintenance windows.

b) every two months I get a new update, should I copy ts or use actual and reschedule ?
When using same ts it shows already installed when trying to reinstall.

Altering packages in SCCM

I'm curious how difficult it is to change packages in SCCM 2012?

Let's say I have an Adobe Acrobat XI Standard package being deployed and it's locked down on english being the default language. I want to change the .MST to allow all languages.

Can one simply swap out the old .MST for the new .MST and it'll get pushed out to the distribution points or do you have to re-launch the entire package?

I ask because a co worker is saying that when you want to make even the smallest changes to a package, that has been deployed, you have to rebuild the entire package and redistribute it to the DP's.

deploy a sequence of a software to install

Hi All,

We are using Altiris Deployment Solution to deploy software, but I want to replace it with SCCM 2012. I have a software, where I have to prepare first the registry, install the software, copy a ini file and copy the LIC file. With Altiris it is configure as job with four tasks.

I guess in SCCM it would be four applications,  but how can bound together the application to run in a sequence. Can it be done with task sequence? I thought this is only for OS deployment.

Thanks,

App-V Application Required Deployment for Primary device machine, Available for other machines

Hi, I am setting up some App-V applications that are to be user targeted in SCCM.

I've set up a required deployment to install if the machine is the users primary device. This works fine. However we also want to give users an optional/available deployment if they are working on another machine and need to use the App-V package.

However if I create an available deployment for the App-V application, when this is installed from the Application Catalog, the install fails as the machine is not the users primary device.

Is there a way to have a required deployment to a users machine if its a primary and also have an available deployment which will be available for install on other machines?

Appreciate your help.

Deploying applications (msi or setup.exe) with embedded prerequisuites

If we have an application that runs via setup.exe and installs prerequisites (Office Add-Ins, Jave, etc.) , can System Center Configuration Manager or a module within SCCM, detect these said prerequisites and deploy and install them without much user intervention? Especially if the developer of said application can not be contacted to find any command line parameters, etc.?

Deploying app-v 5 applications & App-V 5.0 SP1 client returning: "+++ A supported AppV client is not installed."

Hello All,

I'm running ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 CU1.

I've created 2 applications: 1 of the type App-V 4 and 1 of the type App-v 5.

On my client I installed the App-V 5.0 SP1 client and am assuming this can play both types (4 & 5).

Is my assumption correct or not?

Can a 5.0 SP1 client run both App-V 4 & 5 packages?

Next to that, when the user to which I've deployed the packages logs in, no icons are displayed.

I check the AppDiscovery.log and found following entries:

"+++ A supported AppV client is not installed."

This is odd because the documentation clearly statess that APP-V 5.0 SP1 client is supported:

I'm trying to deploy an application that is install by way of script.  my install works correctly, I see the application on the machine (actually it's an update "*.msp) I'm trying to use a registry entry as the detection method, but CfgMgr never sees that the app is installed...

Application Catalog and Workgroup PCs

Hi All,

We're hoping on using the application catalog with some laptops that are not domain joined, but do however have the SCCM client installed and pointed towards our servers. This part we've got working so far, but the problem we're having is that when attempting to do an install, an error is presented that indicates that the login used for the application catalog differs from the login used on the laptop.

This of course is the case, as the user is logging on to the laptop under their personal account, however is logging on to the Catalog via their AD Credentials.

Is there a way around this?

How do i revoke/reset approvals for a specific user

Hi.

I really want to revoke/reset an approval for a specific software for a specific user. I know you can't do that from the GUI. Is there another way to do this?

I have created an application to run an vbscript to set the Office User Info. The script is based on this "Hey Scripting Guy"-Blog entry: http://blogs.technet.com/b/heyscriptingguy/archive/2005/07/13/how-can-i-change-the-user-information-in-microsoft-office.aspx.

The SCCM application has a script based deployment type and just calls the vbs-file. The detection rule is based on the registry path HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Common\UserInfo\UserInitials and ...\UserName.

The installation is set to run as user, only when a user is logged on. It is my understanding that with this setting the installation process is running within the user context.

I also have configured a dependency for my Office 2010 SCCM application without automatic installation. The Office 2010 application is deployed to devices and is working as expected.

Then I deployed my "Office User Info"-SCCM application to a user collection.

When I'm logged in as an admin user the "Office User Info"-Application is deployed by SCCM without any problems. This works as expected.

When I'm logged in as an normal user account, the deployment does not work. I always get an error 1 in the SCCM Software Center.

In AppEnforce.log I can see that SCCM is trying to install:

I first thought that I do not have access as a user to the source directory within the ccmcache folder. But if I open a cmd, cd to the correct ccmcache subfolder (ccmcache itself is not accessible for users) I can dir the content and start the vbscript and or the wrapping batch file without problems.

I tried several thinks but I do not get this up and running.

Deploying Package/Program that requires apps to be closed

I am currently trying to deploy Bluebeam Revu (PDF viewer and editor) to 100+ employees. The app requires Microsoft Office and some AutoCad programs, which both use Bluebeam plugins, to be closed during the installation. Her is my delema. If I deploy the Package as an 'Available' install, it is near impossible to get the majority of users to open Software Center and manually start the installation. If I deploy the Package as a 'Required' install, the percentage of possible failures increases substatially due to the fact that Office and Autocad apps are among the first things employees boot when they arrive each morning.

Does anyone have a recommendation as to how I should go about this deployment? Any insight would be appreciated.

My only other thought is to schedule the install to occur immediately after the user logs off. However, the issue I see with this is that the install takes around 5-6 minutes and would not completed if the user was logging off and then shutting down for the night which many do.

AppV 5.0 + Shared Content Store + SCCM Integration question

We are trying to configure SCCM and AppV 5 SP1 on our image for Citrix provisioning.  From SCCM, we are publishing an AppV package, and on the image we have the client configured for SharedContentStore.  I'm a little unclear on how this process will work though:

In SCCM, do I need to set anything special to make sure it does this, and doesn't load the entire package?  Obviously, we don't want to load the entire package when a few hundred servers are provisioned, as it would eat up a lot of disk space.  I'm just not completely sure how I need to configure the deployment type in SCCM to ensure this happens.  Every whitepaper / page I found searching the web is more on "Here's why you should" or "Here's how the backend works", but I can't find anything on how to actually make it happen.  Any guidance is appreciated, thanks!

SCCM 2012 automatic deployment rule not executing (Updates for SCEP)

$

Hello all,

I'm facing a problem here, where our SCCM 2012 v. 5.0.7711.0 isn't running the automatic deployments for the definitions updates of the SCEP 2012 antivirus.

The problem goes like this:

1) I create the auto. dep. rule in the Automatic Deployment Rules tab underSoftware library.

2) Everything is set up according to this guide Step 4: windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4466-using-sccm-2012-rc-in-a-lab-part-5-enable-the-endpoint-protection-role-and-configure-endpoint-protection-settings

3) There are other minor differences in our internal settings, like we don't use alerts and we sort the updates by"Udate Classification"

4) Then, I check if there are any new definitions updates in the "All Software Updates" tab in SCCM. There are new ones, so - I don't want to wait and I run the newly created automatic deployment by clicking on"Run Now"

5) Then, the auto deployment rule starts working, grabs the new updates, puts them in the package. The package then start distributing the content to our distribution points and clients get updated, as I watch the compilance number growing on the deployment of that package.

6) So, the auto deployment rule is working fine I think and I want to wait until7:20 AM where we have scheduled the rule to run.

7) The next day, the auto deployment rule doesn't run / stops at weird state as I check the ruleengine.log

Here are some notes I took from the log this morning:

FindNextEventTime found next event for RuleID 16777221 as :9/10/2013 7:20:00 AM

RuleSchedulerThred: Timeout Signalled. RuleEngine needs to run one or more of the Rules...

Marked RuleID 16777221 for Evaluation. Updated Next Occurence as :9/11/2013 7:20:00 AM

FindNextEventTime found next event for RuleID 16777217 as :9/11/2013 7:15:00 AM

RuleEngine: 1435 minutes is greater than MAX_TIME of 15 minutes, will sleep for MAX_TIME

Found notification file D:\APPS\ConfigMgr\inboxes\RuleEngine.box\16777221.RULSMS_RULE_ENGINE9/10/2013 7:20:10 AM4940 (0x134C)

Refreshed ScheduleList instance for Rule (16777221) from schedule string (50E99AC000100008) with next occurence (9/11/2013 7:20:00 AM)

I have skipped some gibberish from the log and extracted the important stuff. (at least I think)

If I take a look at this, I think, that there might be problem with other jobs being executed at the same time, or running simultaneously with the Definitions Update rule.

8) Just to be sure, that there were new updates this morning, I wrote down the number from the time, the last version was installed and then check the last available update version in "All Software Updates"  -  and there was a new update, so the rule should have executed the update process.

9) At last, I have checked the date, when the Software Update Group for these updates was updated, and it resembles the date, when I ran the Auto Deployment Rule by hand.

10) To be completly sure, I've also checked the Antimalware policies and the policy for update source and the only one, that is checked is the "Updates Distributed from Configuration Manager" - as I understand it, this is the right option for the clients to get the from the SCCM and not from the internet.

I'm out of ideas. I have tried to recreate the rule several times and still doesn't work.

Please help... I'll be glad for any idea, that might help resolving this issue.

Thank you in advance for your knowledge.
