Office 2010 Application Install for User Permissions Issue

$
0
0

Ok basic quick rundown:

Office 2010 install with an .msp file created with the OCT.

In our environment, due to numerous add-ins for Office applications we HAVE to run the install behavior as Install for User.

However, when this is done through an advertisement to the user and the user tries to run it, it fails due to lack of privileges.

Is there anyway to push this application and have it install with elevated rights when the user tries to install it? Or am i just out of luck on this one?

Thanks for any info you can provide, and not trying to be rude but this is slightly time sensitive.

Thanks in advance!

Keith

SCCM query for active Outlook clients

Hello,

I'm trying to make an inventory to determine the number of PC which are using a mailbox with Outlook. I have a device collection about Outlook installed PCs  but I'd like to determine how much of them are using a mailbox account.

My idea was to create a query based device collection to check if ost files exist on each Outlook equiped computer. Unfortunately, the ost files are stored in c:\Users\%username%\appdata\local\microsoft\Outlook folder, it seems that SCCM cannot query the %username%appdata folder. Can you please confirm me that there are problems for making requests in this folder ?

If there's no solution to make this query based device collection, does anyone have an alternative to create a listing of active mail for Outllok equiped PCs ?

If it can help, I give you the query that I created therefore :

select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_SoftwareFile on SMS_G_System_SoftwareFile.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_SoftwareFile.FileName like "%.ost" and SMS_G_System_SoftwareFile.FilePath like "C:\\Users%Appdata\\Local\\Microsoft\\Outlook\\"

Thanks for your answers

SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 CU2 site-wide push problem

Hello!

Looks like for some time I have problems with site-wide push, when I Install client from wizard, everything works. Discovered pc appears in console and that's it, directory's (%windir%\ccmsetup) not creating etc. (on client).  In adsysdis.log computer appear and only warning is "WARN:  Failed to get following optional attributes, operatingSystemServicePack,". In ccm.log no information about this computer.

I even looked in sccm db table "v_CP_Machine" and there's no information about discovered computer too.

I'm out of ideas what to do next and how to make it work again. Worst thing is, that I don't know how long client push not working.

Thanks,

Ronald

Re-Deploying Office 2013 (with Access) - Adding Additional features and redeploying with SCCM

Good morning,

Here's what I got, we have a package with Office 2013 Pro Plus that has everything installed except Access, b/c most do not use Access.  Our business labs are about to start teaching Access, so we need to deploy access to these device collections that require this feature to be added. I know I can create another custom MSP with the OCT admin pack, and I have, but I do not know how to deploy it to these few collections and force it to update.

My main questions, if I create a completely new application in SCCM and point it to the new MSP file that has ALL the features plus access, what do I set as the detection method, since they already have Office 2013 installed?  WHen I deploy it it will find it's already installed and will not update. (or so I think?)

Long story short, I want to update the existing Office 2013 installation on a few device collections to include / add Microsoft Access 2013 and I need to know your opinions on the easiest way to do this with SCCM 2012

Thanks!

Utilising Application Detection Method Results to Control Collection Membership

I have created an application with a detection method that works fine.

I have created a collection query that should show machines with the above Application  installed

I have achived this using a query for Application Client State - AppModelName and used the ID from the app, and Application Client State - Compliance State = 1. However I do not see all the devices in the collection that have the app installed.

I have created some more queries, showing different Compliance States and have some machines with state = 2 and some =4.

What do 0, 1, 2, 4 and 6 indicate?

Trend Micro is deleting sccm cache?

We still have a SCCM2007 running and also a 2012 in our forest. All clients have Trend Micro Officescan. On the servers we have NOD32. The clients on 2012 have their cache wiped after the download of a Lync install is done. Therefor I receive a message "content not available" or "hash not correct".

Where can I check which action is doing this? I looked in the CAS.log and ContentTransferManager.log on the client and there are some weird things Watson
Anybody can help?

But for some reason the options arent the same

Its SCC 2012 R2 SP1

Application Catalog Site 'Cannot Connect to the Application Server'

Hi -

I have CM 2012 all set-up.  Everything seems to be working as expected, except for the application catalog site (https://sccm.domain.com/CMApplicationCatalog/#/SoftwareCatalog/FullRefresh/true.

When I visit this url from a client I receive a 'Cannot Connect to the Application Server' error in the silverlight app.

The 'C:\Program Files\SMS_CCM\CMApplicationCatalog\Logs\ServicePortalWebSite.log'  file is logging this error.

Any idea how this can be fixed?  I've verified that the rest of the applications under the 'default web site' are working as expected..... and the CM cert on that site also looks fine.

Application Catalog Website and primary user for software distribution

We have several applications that we want to distribute only to laptops and want to use the Application Catalog website that only distributes to users.

We have a collection for our laptop computers and would like to create a User Collection that requires the users to be the primary user of computers in the laptop collection.

I haven't found any built in query criteria that defines primary user of a computer collection.

Has anyone been able to do it this way?

Need to build a query to detect software use

Can someone point me in the right direction to get started or offer some help?

Application Installed but Not Detected

I have an application with a 32bit MSI and a 64bit MSI.

We've deployed it to about 30 or 40 workstations with a notification that software is available to install.  It installs with a /forcerestart which forces a prompt to restart.

Even after a restart, two users (one on Windows 7 32bit and one on Windows 7 64 bit) keep getting the notification that they should install the software.  In Software Center, they see the application as "past due."  When I monitor the deployment, they both show as Pending "In Progress" a day later.

In their AppEnforce.log files, I see this:

However, they've restarted and are using the updated software.  It also shows up as the updated version in Resource Explorer and in Software 02D "Installed Software on a specific computer."

I requested that one user let me know what whether he has the MSI Product Code in the appropriate place in his registry and to give me a screen shot of his installed products list from Control Panel.

Anything else that I should be checking?  What could cause the detection to fail?  Presumably, the MSI Product Code detection that the MSI provided is correct.  The other 40something users didn't have any troubles like this.

Thanks!

Sequencing an Application that installs in localappdata

Hey guys

I am trying to Sequence a program called Anaconda3-2.4.1 --> URL: https://www.continuum.io/downloads

New to App-V so I am still learning how to properly sequence etc

My first attempt at sequencing this was not successful at the testing stage of the user end.

The application installs its exe's in the localappdata folder

Once I got SCCM to push out the application ( which was successful, I could not start any of the applications from the start menu shortcuts as they are pointing to a localappdata directory

What changes in the sequencing should I do so app-v puts the exe filles into a global appdata location or somewhere accessible by the user?'

I will give you one example of one shortcut that was virtualised that did not know where the actual exe file was located:

"%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Integration\6B520673-8B79-4BFD-9D81-4D59E788E686\Root\VFS\Local AppData\Continuum\Anaconda3\pythonw.exe" C:\Users\pat\AppData\Local\Continuum\Anaconda3\cwp.py C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Continuum\Anaconda3 "C:/Users/user/A

There was an all users option when installing but from memory this did not turn out succesfully either but I will try again

Any help would be appreciated!

Application Management Using - Software Metering

Dear All,

I find there is a non-sync between the definition of a 90 days unused software versus SCCM metering report.

As per my understanding, "Computer that have metered program installed but have not run the program since a specified date" report from SCCM mean – it should provide details of ONLY workstations which have not used the software past 90 days.

However I have observed that the report also includes the workstation names which were installed during the last 90 day span too…

Example: Recently there was an MS Project installed on workstation ABC123. Software Installation Date was 25/Jan/2016.

I pull a SCCM report to check the last usage date of MS project since 01/Oct/2015.Surprisingly I find this machine’s name ABC123 reflecting in the report, though it was installed in January 2016.

Isn't it a flaw in reporting from MicroSoft?

Thank you!

how to install app to 50 computers a night automatically

Hello,

We are rolling out a new software app and management wants us to install to 50 computers per night.  I know i can add 50 workstations to our push collection, howerver I'm trying to automate it so it does it automatically.

This is what i am trying.

Collection1 = All Call Center computers
Resource Name like XXX%

Collection2 = Call Center computers with App installed
Resource Name like XXX% and Installed Application = 'Call Center app'
update membership 6 hours

Collection3 = Call Center computer needs app needs installed
limiting collection = All Call Center computers
Include collection = All Call Center computers
Exclude collection = Call Center computers with App installed
update membership 6 hours

I am trying this:

Collection4 = Push to 50 Call Center computers needing new app
limiting collection = Call Center computer needs app needs installed
update membership 6 hours
Query = see below

Application push is scheduled to repeat nightly at 10pm against Collection 4.

QUERY:

select TOP 50
SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID, SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType, SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,
SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier, SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,
SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client
from SMS_R_System
where SMS_R_System.ResourceId in
(
select resourceid from sms_fullcollectionmembership where collectionid = "Collection3"
)

But of course "TOP 50" is not valid syntax.

If I could do that, it would pick 50 computers, push to them at 10pm.  The collection would update, remove the ones that installed the app and pick 50 new computers.

Any other way to make this work?

Thanks,
Claud

Software Deployment INCREDIBLY slow to non-existent at sites with distribution points - help!

I manage an SCCM site that our main location and then 4 distribution points.  To give you a background real quick about what type of environment we're in, it's a school district with a ton of laptops.  we're preparing for testing, and each laptop has to have a certain application on it.

In the past, I get the laptops in the classrooms and have the teachers notify me when they're on and I force a machine policy refresh using right click tools, and they all immediately go online and get the software.

Now, it's almost like it is hitting a brick wall and the majority of the clients say "Past due - will be retried", or it will eventually start downloading.  The deployment is done right, with the correct detection method, because it has successfully installed to 60% of the large collection that requires this software (1500+ have installed correctly)

I just recently updated to the newest CU of SCCM 2012 R2, was I supposed to do something specifically to my distribution points?  I'm hoping I missed something and that's all it is.

My distribution points are server 2012 hyper-v VMs and they seem to be pegged out CPU and Memory wise (both stay at around 80-90%, but look at the network utilization and it's barely moving.  Makes no sense.

Is there anyone out there who could shed some light into what i'm having issues with here?  I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Problem with applications after content validation process

$

Hi,

I have found interesting issue in my SCCM DP's. On few DP's, after weekly Content Validation process, few of applications, change status on "The package may not be present or may be corrupt. Please redistribute it". I have of course redistributed application and when it hasn't helped, I have removed totally and distributed again. Of course it works only till next Content Validation.

Strange is, even if applications change status on failed, it is installing on users PC, without any problem.

Have you found something similar on your SCCM environment and if yes, how to fix it?

Thank you.

SCCM 2012 R; package is built and deployed, on receiving device it just sits at downloading.

When deploying packages it is just sitting at downloading on the client machine and sometimes it doesn't seem to ever make it to the client machine.  I attempted to check the logs but am not able to decipher the actual cause.  I need to get some packages built and deployed and could use some help.  I don't know where to start or what information (log) is needed for anyone to look at to see what the problem is but I can get that for you as requested.

Thanks,

Bob
