Hello everyone,

I've been struggling to find a way to deploy an .exe file from Ninite (which is not an application (Ninite.com)) to my clients. Anyone here any experience with this?

Thanks

MSI package say installation failed even after installation is successful.

I got to create application from msi file and all was done perfectly.

Software installation is fine too, the only problem i am facing is sccm says installation failed while it was installed correctly.

MSI package is created with all default setting.

I am facing this problem almost for 3-4 msi package is there anything i am missing on package?

Here is the error code on client:

Command to uninstall Office 2016 and content/location of uninstall.xml file

Command to install Office 2016 is as simply as it gets setup.exe. However I have trouble with command to uninstall Office 2016. It should be like this:

setup.exe /uninstall ProPlus /config Uninstall.xml

Uninstall.xml content is:

<Configuration Product="ProPlus"><Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="no" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" /><Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="Never" /></Configuration>

However uninstallation always fails with an error:

Setup can't find or validate an installation file. Please try reinstall Office ...

Last year I did the same with Office 2013 and I was able to uninstall it successfully. Are there some changes in Office 2016 from Office 2013 related to installation/unistallation switches, xml file format ...?

deployment was set to required but not a single patch was installed even after deployment time. Please suggest me if i am missing anything.

Supersedence SQL query

Hi All,

Does anyone happen to know how we can get the Supersendence of an application through SQL?

I actually starte on this, but it returns nothing, even though I have a few applicaitno that are superseeded in my environment:

SELECT * FROM CI_ConfigurationItemRelations
WHERE RelationType = 19

(Ideally without using a function sice I have very limited SQL rights on the SCCM box).

Thx in advance!

how can I change the cache size on all computers; change the default size or even just the ones that want this app.

Ideas?

Thanks,

Reboot Behavior

Hello,
I hope someone could help me to understand reboot behavior revolving around SCCM Application Deployment (not Software Updates).

Application Deployment

For testing purposes I created a very simple application (deployment type) who runs VBscript (cscript.exe test.vbs). This script creates an empty text fileC:\TEMP\test.txt and returns exit code 3010 (Wscript.Quit(3010)). Detection rule checks the presence oftest.txt file.
Deployment has been set to be Required and installation deadline "As soon as possible after the available time".
Target collection (and all the other collections where target computer is member of) has no Maintenance Windows defined.

Deployment type has these settings:

User Experience (tab)

  • Installation behavior => Install for system
  • Logon requirement => Whether or not user is logged on
  • Installation program visibility => Hidden
  • Should Configuration Manager enforce... => "Determine behavior based on return codes"

SCCM client version is 5.00.8239.1203; Business Hours are set from05:00 to 22:00 (mon-fri).

After some deployment tests against the same computer (Windows 7 Pro), I cannot understand why sometimes I get reboot with snooze option:

Reboot with Snooze Option

...and some other a reboot with 90 minutes countdown:

Reboot with 90 Minutes Countdown

My objective is to have the deployment set as Required, but let user to choose when to reboot (snooze option).

Could you give me information about this ?

Thank you,
Luca

Execute Application as different User

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to deploy an application with an different (admin) user.
As Example we've some Software Product which needs to run as "user" not "system".
With user I mean an install-user.
The last time we used altiris. It was easy to do this.

Would it be possible to run the sccm agent service niot as systemaccount?

Thank's for your help.

Uninstall Quicktime via SCCM

Due to the recent threat found with QuicktTime, is there an easy way to force an uninstall of  all versions of Quicktime from all my managed machines?  I am trying to find the best way to do this.  Thanks in advance!

Updating an already installed application

A few months back we installed MS Project 2013 Standard to many of our users, during the initial deployment we forgot to create a SilentUninstallConfig.xml in the prjstd.ww folder and we failed to include a proper uninstall command line option.

Since the original deployment of Project, we've created the file mentioned above and updated the uninstall process of the deployment to use such file.

In SCCM I've used the Redistribute option in Content Locations tab as well as theUpdate Contents in Deployment Types tab and SCCM still fails to copy the SilentUninstallConfig.xml to the users' ccmcache source folder for Project.

Am I missing something else here?

My next option is to manually copy this file to our users and then create a removal task to test the removal process.

Error 259 when deploying software from SCCM

I am setting up my first software deployment from SCCM. I started off simple and went with an easy install, google chrome. I packaged the installation and pushed it out to my test pc.  I can see the installation begin within software center. Then it fails. I looked at the Execmgr.log (see below) and see that it failed with error code 259. I restarted the install and it once again failed. So, I copied the file from c:\windows\ccmcache to my desktop and kicked off msiexec /I. It ran with no issue. I did the same using the /qn command so it is now running the exact command used by SCCM deploy. It installs with no issue. So why am I getting this 259 error when SCCM attempts to install it?  All it is doing is downloading the file and executing the command....

Custom Script detection method failing on application

$

Have built what I thought would be a simple application install to install a certificate.

Basically the application runs certmgr.exe with relevant options to install a certificate that is in the same folder as the certmgr.exe.  From what I can see, the AppDetection process runs as follows (correct me if i'm wrong)

- Run App Detection script (see below)

- If its not detected, then I can see the certmgr.exe being run and the certificate does get installed and exit code is 0

- The App Detection script is rerun to check it has installed and at this point I get errors in the logfile AppEnforce.log

Script used on Detection Method is:

$store = New-Object System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509Store("TrustedPublisher","LocalMachine")
$store.Open("ReadOnly")
$CertFound = ( $store.Certificates | where-object { $_.subject -match "NameOfCertToCheckFor" } )
if ($CertFound -eq $null) { exit $false } else { exit $true }

So, initially cert is not found (correct), certmgr.exe is run (successfully), then cert should be found.

Error showing up in log is as follows:

<![LOG[    Performing detection of app deployment type Certificate Install - NETEHWSUS01 Root CA(ScopeId_59C41283-5F82-44F8-82C6-5A250A061892/DeploymentType_add41049-d008-4584-bf31-680d50b85e40, revision 11) for user.]LOG]!><time="12:35:03.293-60" date="07-02-2012" component="AppEnforce" context="" type="1" thread="3948" file="appprovider.cpp:2064">

I can't work out what the issue is, and I'm struggling to find any kind of documentation/help regarding Custom Script Detection Methods and what the return codes should be for these detections.  Have tried -1,0,1, true and false.

Can anyone help?

Uninstall applications to a user group that contains other user groups

Hello everyone,

As the title says, I'm trying to uninstall a couple of applications using a user group as my target. This user group doesn't contain user accounts but instead it contains other AD user groups.

I've tested the uninstall process of these applications on my test environment and I know it works fine (when the target is a regular user group of computer accounts), but when I choose this user group, the application never uninstalls. Now I'm wondering if SCCM is having a hard time determining the user group contents.

Thanks!

Desktop and Start Menu shortcuts not installing

When deploying an application with SCCM that runs a simple batch file to kick off an .msi, the application's desktop and start menu shortcuts are not created. When I run the batch file from ccmcache it installs fine with the shortcuts.

Is there a particular setting that I'm missing?
