Hi Everyone,

I've a strange problem on my Management Point.

The SCCM 2012 client is installed, but there isn't Software Center (on all other Server it has been installed).

I've tryied to install it manually & with the push installation , but no change.

when I try to push it to the server it has an error File C:\Windows\ccmsetup\{181D79D7-1115-4D96-8E9B-5833DF92FBB4}\client.msi installation failed. Error text: ExitCode: 1635

But when I try to install Manually Exit code is 0 (no error)

Cheers

How to use Application method to run app install as user, not system

$

Bit of a strange one this, in that most people seem to ask the opposite question (e.g.; https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a92f7713-11c7-45ed-8865-df4c18f60892/how-to-install-application-from-sccm-2012-application-catalog-using-administrator-privilege?forum=configmanagerapps).

I have a command line I want to run as the user, who doesn't have admin rights. Run the command line by hand, all is fine. The command in question will complain (fail!) though if you try and run as an admin/elevated.

Put the command line as a deployment type in an application, and despite setting setting "Install for user" as Installation behaviour on User Experience tab, it still runs as Admin. Naturally, it fails.

If I was to use the Package/Program method then setting Run mode to "Run with user's rights" would enable this, but I want to stick to the App model.

So, what have I missed?

Deployment Requirements Re-Evaluation and existing content

This is a scenario I've ran into more when testing application deployments rather than in production but I'm still looking for clarification.

Background:

I have a mix of both x86 and x64 installations of Office 2010.  I would like to update some of these to Office 2013.  Because I don't know what bitness of Office might be on a particular machine I've:

1. Created an application deployment for Office 2013

2. Created two different deployment types for each bitness

3. Created global conditions to check for the bitness of the installed Office 2010 suite and set those as requirements for the deployment types for the respective bitness of Office 2013.

Since I've created two different deployment types and set their content to be only the files for their respective bitness the client evaluates the requirements at deployment time and only downloads/installs the content needed to upgrade that bitness of Office 2010.

This works fine in most cases.  The "problem" I've run into is that on a test clients where I test both the x86 and x64 upgrades if I test the x86 upgrade first the content for the x86 version is downloaded and installed no problem.  However when I uninstall Office 2013 x86 and install Office 2010 x64 to test the x64 upgrade the deployment continues to use the cached content for the x86 deployment type.  It doesn't re-evaluate the requirement for the Office bitness and download the x64 deployment type content even after running an Application Deployment policy cycle.

Is this expected behavior?  In production this is unlikely to ever be an issue but I'd like to know if the client should be re-evaluating the requirements after an Application Deployment Policy refresh and downloading the content for the correct bitness after realizing it doesn't have the correct content anymore.

Or do I have to clear the cache in order for the client to download the correct content?

Why does SCCM delete my cache?

I have all packages and applications set to Persist in Cache. If I clear the SCCM cert (which you have to when creating a VDI master image unless you want to see some really messed up behavior) then it deletes everything in the cache. It certainly didn't do this in 2007 and I want to know why "persist in cache" doesn't mean "persist in cache".

The result is all of the Active Setup and advertised shortcuts fail on any pooled images because SCCM deleted the source software.

Also, if SCCM just put the packages back into the same folders (like 2007) then this would be less of an issue - SCCM could download them again, but now it picks random folders which means you have to edit the uninstall reg keys to point it to the new source, until SCCM deletes the cache again.

Is there any way to make "persist in cache" actually mean "persist in cache"?

trouble with windows 7 background image package .bat script

Hi, I have a .bat script which is to copy windows 7 logon and default background .jpg files that does not appear to be working correctly.

The .bat script works when I manually run it by open an elevated command prompt, but it is lying when I try to deploy it as not hidden and allowing users to interact with it.

For example, the command 'copy c:\windows\ccmcache\14\background1360x768.jpg c:\windows\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds' shows 1 file(s) copied. but that file DOES NOT get copied. I looked in the source folder c:\windows\ccmcache\14\ and the file is there and looks correct, but It is not in the destination folder at all even though it states one file was copied.

I put a pause after the command and the only observation I have is that when I look at running programs in the task manager, the cmd.exe program does not appear to have a user associated with it. I dont know if that is a problem. Every other .exe shows my username in the username column.

Any idea what I am doing wrong ? The package is set to run with administrator rights.

Problem with SCCM client .bat Package running in 64-bit context?

My .bat script runs the command:

copy %~dp0background1360x768.jpg C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds

and the result is:

C:\WINDOWS\ccmcache\9>copy C:\Windows\ccmcache\9\background1360x768.jpg C:\Windows\System32\oobe\inf
o\backgrounds
        1 file(s) copied.

However it is lying to me and ACTUALLY copying the file to c:\windows\syswow64\oobe\info\info\background

Is there any work-around to this or a way to fix this?

Hello folks,

Recently i'm experiencing an issue deploying some application to Windows 8.1, on deployment monitor and the execmgr says that deploy is waiting from content.

This same package was deployed and installed to another 5 machines with Windows 7 and 10, but to Windows 8.1 i'm having this problem with waiting from content. Can somebody help to figure this issue?

Deploy Application with ini file

Hello,

I have successfully created an .msi application and deployed it to a few workstations. I also have the option of deploying it with a .bat, and I have an .ini that contains some configuration information (ex. IM server name, and community). I would like to include this file in the deployment. What is the best way to do this?

Thank you,

Ricardo

Strange SCCM 2012 Deployment failures

$

Hi,

I have an application that has 2 deployments types.  One of which has a simple requirement rule to check if a process is running. If it is not running then it will install the application silently otherwise it defaults to the prompted install.  This succeeds on over 4500 machines but fails on 175.  I cannot seem to figure out why.  SCCM reports back with 'Application requirement evaluation or detection failed (087d00329(-2016410839)).  The AppIntent.log does not show an install required.  The line items in AppIntentEval is as follows:

This Deployment type has a priority 1

ScopeId_ACF98940-2B48-4342-98D9-9C6E235BB5DA/DeploymentType_1299cf2e-69c4-4345-b7f6-9573dcdaa35d/4 :- Current State = Error, Applicability = Unknown, ResolvedState = None, ConfigureState = NotNeeded, Title = Chrome - Silent

This Deployment type has a priority 2

ScopeId_ACF98940-2B48-4342-98D9-9C6E235BB5DA/DeploymentType_a7654e9f-b040-46f2-b8e1-3ea217d57365/5 :- Current State = NotInstalled, Applicability = Applicable, ResolvedState = None, ConfigureState = NotNeeded, Title = Chrome - User Prompt

Has anyone had similar issues and if so can you share your resolution?

Kind Regards,

How to retire a superseded application (best practice)?

$

Hello!

I deployed a new version of Java Runtime Environment to all machines by creating a new application with supersedence relationship to the old version with uninstall option active - worked fine - most of the machines updated to the new version.

Now I wonder if I can remove the old version application package e.g. by removing deployments and retiring or even deleting the application - but there are open questions:

Some machines did not update to the new version yet - if I remove all deployments from old application and retire / delete it - what happens to these machines if they want to update in future? Uninstall of the old application will not be possible any more because the old application and deployment type (with uninstall command) has been deleted. Installation of the new version will fail, is that right?

What if I only remove deployments from old application - will uninstall deployment type of the old application still work?

What if I remove deployments from and retire the old application - will uninstall deployment type of the old application still work?

is there a list of possible values for EvaluationState under CCM_Program in WMI?

I am looking for the list of values for EvaluationState under CCM_Program using root\ccm\ClientSDK I have found the list for CCM_Application here but there is nothing listed for EvaluationState for CCM_Program here. It could possibly be that they are the same. Thank, Randy

"Available" applications randomly installing themselves without end-user triggering

Hi, I'm running SCCM 2012 SP1 CU2.

I have a problem where a long list of "available" applications will install themselves on a workstation without any end-user action.  I'm getting reports of this happening 2 or 3 times per week in an environment of 14,000 workstations (XP and W7).

A couple minutes after a user logs on, between 30 and 70 applications get installed in quick succession.  I can confirm that these apps do NOT have a "required" deployment type; they are all "available".

It is definitely SCCM doing it, as I can see all the .MSIs in \windows\ccmcache.

AppDiscovery.log (numerous similar messages):

ActionType - Install will use Content Id: Content_c758362d... + Content Version: 1 for AppDT "application 1 (*.msi file)"
ActionType - Install will use Content Id: Content_da9231a7... + Content Version: 1 for AppDT "application 2 (*.msi file)"
ActionType - Install will use Content Id: Content_e24e32b7... + Content Version: 1 for AppDT "application 3 (*.msi file)"

DCMAgent.log (numerous similar messages):

Job::SetupJob - Add assignment (DEP-XYZ20240-ScopeId_8FB9C6D8...

CDCMAgentJob::PopulateCIsFromAssignment - [SKIPPING] CI policy Id :ScopeId_8FB9C6D8...

All the applications that are getting installed are Applications (not packages), deployed as "available", that are set to install as the user, and are targeted to a large machine collection.

We have about 70 deployments like this, but I've seen variation where between 30 and 70 of these apps will get installed.  Each incident will install a different subset of these 70 apps.

We've been cutting over our legacy packages to applications over time.  The problem was first reported about a month ago.

Ideas?

Thanks,

Nick.

Run installation and uninstallation program as 32 bit process on 64 bit clients

A silly question but need some more explanation...Can anybody elaborate what this option means and in what conditions this can be used? Does this has to checked all the time?

Run installation and uninstall program as 32-bit process on 64-bit clients

: Use the 32-bit file and registry locations on Windows-based computers to run the installation program for the deployment type.

How to create a SCCM 2012 Custom Requirement for OS Architecture?

$

Hey guys,

I'm using the application model to deploy several 32-Bit and 64-Bit apps and I’m looking to simplify things a bit. Right now I'm using the built-in requirements to specify the supported OS Architectures for my 32-Bit/64-Bit only applications. This is a bit tedious as it requires me to check every single OS type I want an application to support (i.e. for 64-Bit stuff I check Windows 7 x64, Windows 8.1 x64, Windows Server 2008 R2 x64, Windows Server R2 x64 and vice versa for 32-Bit). Really all I want is some sort of requirement that lets me specify "Install for all 64-Bit OSes" or "Install for all 32-Bit OSes" depending upon the application in question.

I’ve been looking at some of the options for a custom requirement and I’m pretty sure I can use that piece to achieve the results I want, I just need to determine what condition I need to test against to make it work. Based on what I’ve read I’m thinking that checking the following registry key should work:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Environment

KEY: PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE

But I am concerned it could produce the wring result when you have a 32-Bit OS installed on a machine with a 64-Bit capable processor (I have a lot of those in my environment). I also have some older XP/2003 machines to support as well and I’m concerned that this method might not work for those systems. Has anyone here faced this same issue and come up with a solution that is relatively foolproof and (if so) would you mind sharing your solution?

Also States on "Status" Past Due - Will be Retired"

Can't figure this one out and I did some googling with no success in finding a solution?

I am running an Adobe Flash install (.EXE)

Package evaluation starting on distribution point, not working

Hello,

I have one package which is required for task sequence. The package was distributed into distribution point.

It showed that started to evaluate.

;'

I have connected to this distribution point and checked smsdpmon.log.

There is explained, that this package validated successfully and sent to managmentpoint.

But why I'm not able to see this status on distribution point configuration status? (also task sequence failing). It seems status not changed on database?

Also in log file I see that this package arrived to ContentLib successfully.

Also checked on Database with query

select *
from v_PackageStatusDistPointsSumm
where ServerNALPath like '%wx1811%'

But in database status is waiting for install package. Why status not changed to complete.

Command to uninstall Office 2016 and content/location of uninstall.xml file

Command to install Office 2016 is as simply as it gets setup.exe. However I have trouble with command to uninstall Office 2016. It should be like this:

setup.exe /uninstall ProPlus /config Uninstall.xml

Uninstall.xml content is:

<Configuration Product="ProPlus"><Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="no" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" /><Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="Never" /></Configuration>

However uninstallation always fails with an error:

Setup can't find or validate an installation file. Please try reinstall Office ...

Last year I did the same with Office 2013 and I was able to uninstall it successfully. Are there some changes in Office 2016 from Office 2013 related to installation/unistallation switches, xml file format ...?

Client download / distribution point issue

$

I've been looking through the existing errors on technet in hopes to finding a resolution.  The underlying issue is the package is pushed to the DP successfully and the client creates the folder in the ccmcache directory, but the files never come.  Based on what I'm seeing it looked like it might be certificate related, so I exported the Distribution Point cert to .pfx as the instructions say to do and then configured the DP settings under sites to utilize it (general tab for the DP in the SCCM console servers and site system roles).  The errors I'm seeing are as follows.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Successfully sent location services HTTPS failure message.

Any direction or assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
