Uat and per approach: wave deploy, supersede ...?

Hi,

I m trying to figuren out the best UAT-PRD approach in deploying software.

I have software which needs to be tested by few users in uat, so I create a user collection and deploy software to it. When not ok, I deploy an uninstall to the same collection, then a new version of the software. When ok it can be deployed to prd via waved deploy (not used it yet, but I guess that s the way to deploy to hundreds of users. Or I could use supersede, but that overwrites every single deploy. Maybe that is only (supersede) to enforce a new version everywhere.

Looking for best approach ut/prd deploy.

Please advise.

Detection Method Using %UserProfile% in the Path

$

Hello,

I have written a simple bat file that copies 2 shortcuts to the desktop and I created an application for it so it can be run from the Application Catalog.  Everything works like it should and the shortcuts get copied to the users desktop but I can't get the detection method to work so even though the shortcuts are there the user is told the installation failed.

I assumed I could use %UserProfile%\Desktop and then the name of the shortcut as the file name in the Detection Method but that never detects the shortcut.

If I use the full path of C:\User\username\Desktop and the same file name it does detect it and says the installation completed successfully.

Is it possible to use system variables such as %UserProfile% as part of the path in the detection Methods?

Thanks,

Dustin

SCCM: urgent application deploy does not show up in software center at all

$

Hi,

I have an urgent install of software to do (App-V), it installed succesfully on one computer but then others just don't see the deploy in software center.
Tried to trigger all updates on the client, even reboot but they just don't see the deploy in software center.
Also the appenforce or appdiscovery don't show the specific application (and check was recent).
All distribution points have the application, health of sscm is ok. No other application have this issue.

When I look in the deploys (sccm), 3 show as 'unknown', 1 show as error but when I try to check the details in sccm it shows as 'Status information is currently unavailable for this deployment'.

How can I enforce this urgent deploy?

Variables and the SCCM installation program path

$

Hi all,

I want to be able to pass a windows variable to the installation program with the SCCM application.

program executable:

msiexec /i "AgentSetup_ver8_6_2_4.msi LDAPID=" /qn

specifically, what I would like to do is to tag the username after the bit that says LDAPID=

so it should read LDAPID={username}

I just want to user the windows variable %username% but I have the feeling that if I just add that to the install line it will just interept %username% as the username rather than adding the value of the variable.  normally when scripting it you would add the variable outside of the " " with something like & %username% but again not sure SCCM will interpret that.

previously I have scripted it with a couple of vbs scripts and then run those as the SCCM program, however, it would simplify it considerably if I can pass the %username% variable to the command line within SCCM and SCCM will understand it....?

Is this possible or do I need to stick with my scripts?

thanks

douglas

Retry | Application Installation in Software Center

Hi,

Application download completes and It says installing. Immediately it says Retry. If selected Retry then application starts the installation and completes the application installation.

This is happening for only one  application. All other application installation completes without RETRY.

 Please let me know what could be the issue.

SCCM Not displaying Deployment IDs correctly

Hello

We have recently noticed that our SCCM is not displaying our "Deployment ID" in the correct format. Generally it has the site initials followed by five number.

We are now seeing new package deployments showing in the following format example:

{A9F3ADBE-D67D-4384-8334-4B41CBAAA9A3}

Does anyone know why this is or how to revert this back to the original format?

Thanks!

UAT/PRD applications deploy: howto allow multiple applications and user revert to previous?

$

Hi,

I'm (still) looking for a good UAT/PRD deploy for applications.
I'd like the users to install a new (AppV) version when available, but give ability to uninstall it and go back to previous if there would be an error. Once we see everything is ok, we can supersede the previous one and supersede the previous version.

Now, in SCCM software center, the application doesn't give an option to uninstall, only install is available.

Note: if you supersede, will the user  loose its config, fe. Firefox settings etc (using supersede/uninstall or replace)?
Thanks!

How to deploy an application using SCCM 2012 which is installing to C:\Users\UserID\Appdata\Local\

Hello,

I'm trying to deploy Mattermost(IM) application through SCCM 2012. The application will installs to C:\Users\UID\Appdata\Local\Mattermost folder. I created a package using Powershell deployment tool kit and i'm using below script for detection method.

$checkversion= (Get-Item "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\mattermost\Mattermost.exe").VersionInfo.Fileversion
if($checkversion -eq "4.2.1.62")
{Write-Host "Installed"}
else{}

I have imported the application to SCCM 2012 and while creating DeploymentType i selected "Install for user" option.

I deployed to my user Id using user collection, now in my machine when i'm trying install application from Software Center. It is throwing "This software is not applicable to your Device."

Can anyone help me here.

SCCM 2012: failed to connect to distribution point

Hi folks,

I have an intermittent issue and can't figure out the reason so far.

I have a primary server and multiple distribution points. The primary does not have a DP configured. When I deploy a new distribution point, I have the following messages:

Distribution Manager failed to connect to the distribution point. Check your network and firewall settings.

and

Distribution Manager failed to find or create the defined share or volume on distribution point.

DistMgr.log shows the following:

CWmi::Connect() failed to connect to \\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\root\CIMv2. Error = 0x800706BA

STATMSG: ID=2391 SEV=E LEV=M SOURCE="SMS Server" COMP="SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER" SYS=BBD-SCCM-E.domain.name SITE=IDC PID=2120 TID=3376 GMTDATE=do jun 28 07:24:17.463 2012 ISTR0="["Display=\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=IDC"]\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\" ISTR1="" ISTR2="" ISTR3="" ISTR4="" ISTR5="" ISTR6="" ISTR7="" ISTR8="" ISTR9="" NUMATTRS=1 AID0=404 AVAL0="["Display=\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=IDC"]\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"

Cannot find or create the package share.

Error occurred. Performing error cleanup prior to returning.

However, after a while (couple of hours), it looks like everything is distributed on the DP. But this message keeps on coming back during the course of the day and every time a new DP is deployed.

I checked permissions, IIS, WMI, but I can't find out the cause of this behavior. I have events about WMI (id 5605) but I can connect to the WMI workspace (root\MicrosoftIISv2) with no issues.

Can anyone shed some light on this please? It would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Safdar.

Configure Visual Studio 2019 Deployment

Hello Guys

We are struggling to configure SCCM 2012 to deploy Visual Studio 2019. We have downloaded all the packages so we would like to perform an offline installation. The Folder is about 28 GB and in the deployment is configured to don't download the content locally allowing the user to to interact during the installation.

we run the following command

vs_setup.exe --nocache --wait --includeRecommended

Now in if open Software Center  in the status of the application i have this: past due - will be updated

and if i click on install become: Waiting to apply changes

and nothing happend.

I'm a newbie about SCCM so i try to understand how to troubleshoot, but just checking the AppDiscovery.LOG

Microsoft Intune - Imported Application Files, Scripts, etc.,

Dear Experts,

Would like to check, if there is any Possible Approach to see the Existing Content *Which is uploaded via Intune Portal* for the Tenant.

As we are supplying the service for our vendor, the Previous supplier had not shared the Application Source file, Scripts etc.,

If we are trying to do the Version change for any Customized Script, or Line of Business Application, It is challenging. So we need to know, How we can view or access the imported content and its details..

Any suggestion or advice on this Please. Thank you

Hi,

I need to remotely (no local sccm module can be installed) create an application and a deployment type via Powershell.
Everything works fine, BUT creating the deployment type, it says it cannot reach the share, but when I execute the command directly on the SCCM-server it works fine (I did a | clip of the command and pasted it into sscm PS on SCCM Server).
So I guess it is a dual hop issue.

Though I tried to run it via a

$PSSessionConfigurationName = "Microsoft.PowerShell32"
$Existing = Invoke-Command -ComputerName $sccmserver -ScriptBlock { Get-PSSessionConfiguration | Where-Object name -EQ $using:PSSessionConfigurationName} -Credential $AdminCredentials
if (! $Existing)
{ Write-Output "Creating a session to $SCCMServer"
 Invoke-Command -ComputerName $SCCMServer -ScriptBlock { Register-PSSessionConfiguration -Name $using:PSSessionConfigurationName -RunAsCredential $using:Admincredentials -Force } -Credential $AdminCredentials
}

$sb = "MyCorrectCommand to create the deployment type, it works fine on the server = Add-CMDeploymenType ..."
Invoke-Command -ComputerName $SCCMServer -ScriptBlock { Invoke-Expression ($using:sb)  } -ConfigurationName $PSSessionConfigurationName -Credential $AdminCredentials

Please advise

Removing and Re-distributing content to DP groups

$

Hi all,

Would be keen to see if anyone else has this problem...

Example: you have a DP group with ALL distribution points - lets say you have 5 in this group.

DP1, DP2, DP3, DP4, DP5

You send out a package update to the ALL DP's group - 4 arrive successfully, 1 fails.

You re-distribute the package to the failed DP, it fails again.

Now you want to remove the package, and add it again for troubleshooting. You remove the DP, you can now see that the package is sent only to 4 distribution points.

So now you re-add it, so distribute content, it's recognized as available to send to it, you add it in. and nothing - it won't update at all and won't send the package out.

The only way i found around this is to remove the whole DP group, but this then removes ALL dp's from the packages target, which is a giant pain in the rear as it means you have to re-distribute the whole package elsewhere.

Anyone else got this? A friend of mine replicated it on his own environment too, is this a bug?
