Not liking Deployment Status Monitoring in SCCM 2012 - Not enough detail

$

I know SCCM 2012 has made some fantastic changes to offering tools for deploying packages.  I am using and learning a lot about deploying apps using the new features of SCCM 2012 Application Management.  I still have a few apps that I need to deploy the old way using Packages.  With the old way, I liked using task sequences and conditions with WMI Queries.  One item I found out quickly is that I am having issues with SCCM 2012 recognizing some name spaces such as root\cimv2\sms.  I am still researching why.  The other item is reporting of advertisements or what SCCM 2012 now calls Deployments.  I am unable to find a way to get more detailed reporting on deployments that I had with SCCM 2007 using the right click tools and advertisement reports.  The details of these reports in SCCM 2007 was really good and I was able to troubleshoot each step of a task sequence.  All I can find with SCCM 2012 is a simple description that says the "Program completed with success" or the program failed.  Is there a way to easily get more detailed reports much like I had with SCCM 2007?  I know I am missing something really simple.  Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks

BJ

Internet Explorer

Hello,

Maybe someone has a better way of doing this. I am having issues with installing IE, any version higher then the installed version on some systems. I want to verify that the systems giving problems are the same models. I search for iexplore.exe and I get results, along with the version but the hardware model I am looking for doesn't exist in the report. So I wrote a quick SQL query to search all installed executables for one of those devices and iexplore.exe does not exist in the list for it. Am I missing something? Seems like I get this for all systems but one particular model.

Deployment Software on user with no admin rights

Hello,

We are using SCCM 2012 R2 and our environment machines are Windows 8.1 with no admin rights for all users.

We are trying to deploy some sprecific software but with no luck.

On the Deployment method we specify "Install for User" and what happens on User side is "Past due it will be retried".

If I modify my script and instead of /qn I use /qb I have the UAC control that pops up.

But from my understanding SCCM should install the software as system account.

How can we do to make it work?

Thank You,

Chris

Hello,

So i have a package ABC being distributed to site 01. When I check the sender log it is showing it is distributing multiple version of ABC. is this possible? Should it not distribute latest version only?

In process sending SWD package ABC  version 2 to site 01, current completion ratio = 19 percent.

In process sending SWD package ABC version 3 to site 01, current completion ratio = 1 percent.

In process sending SWD package ABC version 4 to site 01, current completion ratio = 1 percent.

"ServiceWindowsManager says that we will not be able to Reboot in the future" - Not rebooting after patches

I was noticing over the maintenance window that a few servers were not auto-rebooting.  I just checked one of them and checked the rebootcoordinator.log file and found these little gems;

ServiceWindowsManager says that we will not be able to Reboot in the future

We may not Reboot ever. Sending 'System May Never Reboot' Status Message

Anyone know where this setting would be??? Most of the servers in this collection, that I've checked thus far, installed and rebooted.

Edit: "Suppress reboot" was not selected for servers.

Is there any way of increasing the time it takes for machines to update or check-in for available software to be installed? I have the box checked on the collections for use incremental updates for this collection but it seems to take forever sometimes days for deployed software to show up on the clients

Application Catalog "installation not started" - force authentication

$

Good Afternoon All - long time reader, first time poster!

I'm experiencing an "issue" with the SCCM 2012 Application Catalog that looks like this:

1. I restart and log in to a users PC (Admin, AD Local Profile)

2. Immediately after the Windows 7 desktop loads, I open the Application Catalog

3. When I attempt to install software from the App Catalog, I receive the "Application installation not started" error, however, this error goes away after approximately 5-15 minutes, presumably after some type of authentication between the SCCM client and the SCCM server has taken place.

My question is, is there any way to manually initiate or speed up this authentication process via a command line argument or Configuration Manager/Actions as soon as I log into the computer?

Thanks,

Pat

Missing deployment type tab

Network access for application install in system context

$

I may be approaching this all wrong, but I thought I'd throw it out there and see what help I can get.

The application is quite old but still usable and useful.  It was made for Windows XP, but has been working in Win 7 with a manual install by an administrator using XP SP2 compatibility mode for the installer.  Once installed, it runs fine.

I have written a powershell script to set compatibility mode by changing the registry and can get the installer to run from an elevated prompt while logged in as an admin.

The problem I have is that there is a network component to the software which lives on one of our servers.  The client requires the server name during the install, and tries to verify the servers existence (I'm assuming by hitting a share on the server). When I try to install the app in a system context, it fails with an error stating that it cannot see the server.

I'm assuming that this is because the system context has no network rights, and I'm wondering what approach I can take to give it some.  I was vaguely hoping that I could use the network access account credentials for this purpose.  Perhaps give that account permissions on the network share it is trying to hit?  I'll give that a shot when I get back in the office, but I'm open to alternatives.

The user does not have sufficient permissions to edit the registry, so I'm not sure how the user context would be helpful to me.

Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

How to set priority for dependency groups

Hi, Is there a way by which i can specify priority of dependency installation for different dependency groups names for a particular deployment type?

I have some 7 dependencies for one application and they need to be launched in certain sequence. I have tried specifying dependencies for each dependency application but it doesn't work after 5 applications.

Thank you.

SCCM/App-V Deployment Errors over HTTPS

I'm getting inconsistent errors when deploying and running app-v applications deployed via SCCM. It seems to be related to HTTPS but I cant put my finger on the cause.

When an application is run, it will often work - however I get these sorts of  errors in virtualapp.log

I'm guessing its some sort of certificate problem, but all looks like it is OK. Also communication between clients and management points is HTTPS and working just fine.

Appreciate any pointers as to what can cause this sort of problem

Thanks in advance

How to remove app from image and deploy new version.

Hi ,

We have adobe acrobat included in the windows 8.1 update. Now we need to have new version of Adobe to be deployed.

What should be the efficient way to achieve this?

- Is there any possibility to remove App from the image by mounting it? It looks difficult..

-Deploy new version as Task sequence step but then final deployment will have 2 adobe acrobat applications

-Any way to remove installed application in the image by some command by task sequence and then add new application with another step in the same TS.

Any pointers will be appreciated. Thanks

SCCM 2012 R2 - Applicationcatalog issue

$

Hello

I have a problem with an ApplicationCatalog site. Applications takes over 1 hour to become available for users. The contents for the application is available on all distribution points. I have checked all the logs and I cannot find any hints to why it is slow. The applications have been created with an automatic script. I have tried setting the deployment time earlier with no luck. Suspecting stuck in the flow somewhere. How can I track what applications become available in ApplicationCatalog?

Any help appreciated

Regards Øyvind
